Following Nuar's opening a year or two ago, there's now another inventive Thai dessert shop in the 20s! Chim Chim mostly focuses on cakes, but with some other smaller sweets also available, such as blondies and cookies. We tried the salted egg cookie and pandan coconut cake. I found the cream in the cake a bit too sweet, but the pandan flavor was pleasing. The salted egg cookie tasted like the inside of a moon cake and was a very successful dessert.

Another great Southeast Asian bakery, and their treats are delicious. Some unique flavors, with the salted egg yolk being my personal favorite. Note that the cakes are a bit pricey at $10+ per slice, but I guess that is just NYC pricing these days. There are a few tables in the front as well. A must visit if you are a fan of these flavor profiles.

We got a few cake slices like the Taro Salted Egg Pork Floss Cheesecake, Coconut Pandan Fresh Cream Cake and the Butterfly Pea Coconut Jelly Pie. All their cakes are so beautifully presented and the colors are absolutely stunning! I loved all three because they are very mildly sweet and don't feel too heavy either. If I had to pick a favorite it would definitely be the Taro Salted Egg Pork Floss Cheesecake! Not much space to sit inside - probably 3 or so tables in a very tight space so go early - luckily when we went, there was an empty table so we didn't have to wait for fight for any seating. We also got the Pandan latte which unfortunately didn't have any Pandan flavor so I would say skip the drinks here.

I visited on a Friday morning, so I didn't hit the weekend rush (yet). I also wanted to make sure I got to try some of their cakes, knowing that they have sold out early given the popular demand!!! I ordered the guava matcha latte which was delicious. Shoutout to the guy who made my drink and made it quickly, too! They use a great guava jam and the matcha was a bright green, which is a great sign. As for the cakes... I loved them!! They had some classic cake flavors like a chocolate cake and carrot cake, but you can imagine I was here to try their unique Asian-inspired flavored cakes. The coconut pandan is delish - a fluffy light chiffon cake with a good amount of coconut frosting that has coconut chunks. I'm sure would be a crowd favorite. I really enjoy the thai tea cake too. These are for the friends who always gotta order a thai tea at a Thai restaurant!! The custard has that fragrance of a thai tea. Now I HAD to try the taro + salted egg yolk cheesecake with pork floss topping cake! What an interesting blend of flavors and a mix of sweet and savory. It is most definitely a BEAUTIFUL cake. Since it's a cheesecake, it is the densest of the cakes that are offered and also has a bit more gritty texture than smooth due to the ingredients (those who know salted egg yolk, know what im talkin bout). I loved how it held its own and tastes the best chilled. It could be the perfect slice for some or an interesting "I've never had this before" slice to others, but either way it'll be the talk of the town!!! The cafe is a cute spot near StuyTown and only a few blocks from Union Square. The owner, Aing, is very sweet and I wish her so much success!!

After my second visit I was able to finally cop the herbal inhalers! My first time we caught they right before closing but were already shut down for the day 15min before closing time :( Thai Tea was super yummy and not too sweet! Wish the people who were in front of the menu weren't standing in front of all the beverage options. I hope to be back when a new choice of what to get next. Pastries looked yummy and the menu was quite large in variety! Definitely gonna be a spot i need to visit during the summer! Really cute small cafe!

One of my go to spots now for dessert in nyc. Such cozy vibes and great service here. One of the best sellers was the Thai tea cake and honestly you can taste the freshness with every bite. The coconut pandan was also very tasty and couldn't get enough. Lovely spot to unwind and treat yourself to a sweet treat.

Walking by after having a fantastic Filipino cuisine lunch a block away, the name is what caught my eye. Simple decor with a super unique menu of hot and cold drinks and very original desserts. Service was very warm, welcoming and fast and there is some seating as well if you prefer to stay to enjoy your drinks and treats. Tried all of the cakes they had on hand: our favorite was the Ube, Taro cheesecake with pork food and nori slivers on top! The combo sounds and looks a bit odd but the taste is complete chef's kiss!! Also really enjoyed the green pandan cake with a light vanilla frosting that had fresh coconut meat, none of the sugar coconut flakes crap, mixed into it! It was a very good textural surprise. The green matcha with white chocolate chip cookie was perfection too! Definitely not your usual flavors but all totally worth the price! It's one of my new spots to repeatedly go to in 2026!

I stopped by on their first day open and they were already buzzing. Their cake menu stands out from many spots in the city, with a real focus on thai flavors you don't see often. The bakery is owned by a lovely couple, with the wife as the baker. The space is cozy and welcoming, and I was greeted with the warmest smiles as the husband proudly walking me through his wife's creations. Always happy to support new, heartfelt spots like this :') *Ube Salted Egg Yolk Pork Floss Burnt Cheesecake $12 * Inspired by their trip to Shanghai, this cake is a reimagination of 肉鬆小貝 (pork floss cake). The first bite hits with a generous layer of pork floss and their mayo-like "secret sauce", followed by the rich salted egg yolk cheesecake. The ube cake on the bottom is subtle and gently sweet. *Thai Tea Cake $10 ** An easy crowd favorite. Every bite is full of thai tea flavor, from the silky custard on top to the light sponge cake and the buttercream layers in between. The cake is moist, airy, and not too sweet. *Butterfly Pea Coconut Jelly Cake $12 This was the most lightly sweetened cake of the three, and I really enjoyed the layers of texture--creamy coconut cream, soft chiffon, chewy coconut meat, jiggly butterfly pea jelly, and a crunchy pie crust at the base. *Es-Yen Thai Style Coffee $6.5 * *Bangkok Thai Iced Tea $7 My first time trying Es-Yen coffee (an iced espresso with condensed milk), and it was so rich and aromatic, but surprisingly not too sweet. I will totally get it again. In comparison, the thai iced tea definitely leans sweeter.

I've been following Aing's confection and culinary feats spotlighting flavors like pandan, salted egg, and thai milk tea for a while now and was so excited to read that she was opening an actual storefront. I showed up right when they opened on their soft opening day and was greeted with a smile by her partner, and a nice display of treats that included pies, cake, and cookies. I sort of anticipated a line because southeast asian treats are still somewhat rare in New York and sought after but I think the buzz circuit just isn't conscious of this place yet and will be soon. Their Thai iced tea is pretty good but the stand out for me was their salted egg yolk and taro cheesecake. It was creamy, fluffy, and the three flavors complemented each other really well. My only piece of feedback is that the slice tasted a little frozen to me, which might be because of the refrigerated display case it was sitting in. I will say I experienced a bit of sticker shock, after taxes and tip the drink was almost $8 and cheesecake slice $14 but we're in Gramercy and I guess you have to pay the rent somehow. It did deter me from getting a slice of the coconut cream pie I was eyeing because spending nearly $30 for two small sweets was a bit much for me, but I will certainly be back.

Chim Chim - "to taste," "to sample," or "to try" When I saw an IG reel on this Thai Bakery in NYC, I knew I had to check it out. I don't think I have ever had Thai desserts and drinks. I've always been a fan of Southeast Asian sweet treats. Cute small quaint place. We were greeted warmly. Here is what we ordered: Drinks: - Guava Matcha Latte (if you're a guava and matcha lover, get this) - Es-Yen (double expresso with condensed milk & evaporated milk) Desserts: - Chocolate Ganache Cake (so moist) - Butterfly Pea Coconut Jelly Pie (that thick crust!!!) - Pandan Coconut Cake (chunks of fresh coconut in the cream) - Salted Egg Taro w/Pork Floss Cheesecake is a unique creation. I grew up eating salted eggs and pork floss so I am familiar with it. But I was hesitant and wondered if these flavors would all work well together and it did. The salted egg has a subtle taste and I really enjoyed the pork floss on top. I used to eat it straight out of the tub. Lolz. Don't be afraid to try this cake, gotta live life and try unusual things. Every cake and pie I chose were a hit. I'm a huge carrot cake lover so I will definitely be back. Also want to try their signature Thai Tea cake. The prices are crazy high but you can tell a ton of work were put into these cakes and pies. Really sweet of the guy at the counter to ask how we enjoyed the cakes. I gave him a huge thumbs up. He also took the time to say, "have a nice day" as we were leaving.

The desserts are so good! Our favorite was the pandan cake and pork floss taro cheesecake. The drinks weren't as good, but the pastries were definitely worth a try.

I'm so happy a Thai bakery opened in my neighborhood! We stopped by on the second day of opening and it was not crowded. There is a counter with all the cookies, brownies and cakes on display. Two tables are in the front of you want to eat inside. They serve the classic espresso drinks as well as matcha and Thai espresso. All the treats looked delicious and it was hard to choose what to order. We decided to get a matcha white chocolate cookie and slice of the Thai tea cake. The cookie was so good! It had a strong matcha flavor and it wasn't overly sweet, which I prefer. The white chocolate chips added a nice contrast to the grassy matcha. The Thai tea cake was so fluffy and moist. The tea flavor really came through and the slice was big enough to share. We'll definitely be coming again when we want a sweet treat!

taro salted egg cheesecake, butterfly pea jelly cake, coconut pandan cake
    Angelina L.

i got the taro salted egg cheesecake, coconut pandan cake, and butterfly pea jelly cake! this takes the cake (lol) of the most unique desserts i've tried in nyc by far -- the texture from the jellies in the cakes provide a fun twist on top of all the interesting flavor combos. the coconut pandan cake was my favorite of the three, and i could taste a strong pandan flavor that paired well with the light coconut cream. the butterfly pea jelly cake was absolutely gorgeous & had the most interesting textures, but didn't really have a strong flavor. the taro salted egg cheesecake was a good way to cut through the sweetness of the other two slices, but i don't think the taro + salted egg + pork floss was my cup of tea. each of these slices was on the pricier side at $12 each, but after tasting them, you can really taste the quality + thought behind each slice. overall, i would recommend coming w a friend so you can share a bunch of slices! there's no other bakery doing it like chim chim, so it's definitely worth a visit :)

If texture doesn't bother you (liberal amount of black sesame!), I'd suggest getting this latte (10/10). Both pastries were great in their own right. For my second matcha of the day, this matcha was like your everyday/average matcha. Can't go wrong, but it wasn't mind-blowing. I thought they'd be more like the asian bakeries we have back in SF. Not as sweet as american desserts, but it was kinda in between. The egg sandwich I really wanted to like since I've been craving one. But the it was sooo dry. Definitely needed more mayo. And the bread wasn't very fluffy either. There is some counter space, but mainly for standing purposes. I ordered a standard Iced Matcha Latte with Oat Milk ($7.35) and my friend got her usual Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte ($8). Docking 1/2 point bc the matcha is pre-made. I'm a fan of the whisking process bc I do believe there's a craft to matcha overall. Surprisingly, my drink tasted fine and my bev was a good color, so I was pleasantly happy. We waited less than 10 min for a table to open up, but you have to be there at the right time, otherwise you prob just grab your drink + go. Overall, glad I tried Kijitora. It's not my first matcha choice, but it was decent for a standard matcha latte. Their specialty matcha drinks look to have mixed reviews, but I'm personally not a fan of sweet drinks.

When I was my turn, I got an iced strawberry matcha latte and an iced mango matcha latte. It was so pretty when I got them. The mango and strawberry paste were sitting at the bottom of the matcha latte. I had to stir and mix the fruits with the whole drink. Surprisingly it was not sweet at all and was just right! They made it in a way that wanted you to crave more of it. It was very addicting. I did not get onigiris this time but will be sure to get some next time I'm here. They were just $4 each for miso salmon, tuna mayo, mentaiko cod roe, sukiyaki beef, and chashu pork. What a decent price for one onigiri! I would definitely be sure to get the miso salmon next time I'm here. The place was very cute with nice little tables for individuals. The place was very cozy with lots of sunlight coming in. Very modern with plants all around. It was so loud with people talking over each other. There were too many people on a Sunday afternoon so I had to walk around or cut through people to get my way. It was that crowded. I also didn't expect this place to be on the second floor and the stairs to be that steep. It was hectic carrying my stroller upstairs. Luckily someone helped me get down! The stairs are very narrow so I had to hold onto the rail. It was not ergonomically friendly at all.
