Chicken Tocilog Crispy Fried Chicken Rice Plate combo

This place is awesome! Good food, awesome service, and the place really lives up to its name, chill. The garlic sticky rice was new for me. Flavor was good. Tocino and adobo were also really good. Out of the empanadas I liked the beef one the best. I wish it didn't have raisins though but I think raisins are standard in certain foods. Ice cream here is really flavorful and really creamy and dense. We also got halo halo and it's so good. We asked for no corn. Parking is a struggle but once you get it, you'll be happy you were patient enough to find one.

This IS. A chill spot! San Mateo is home to this magical spot. This is definitely a cross, between having an experience on the islands, and also at the same time all of those unique flavors that we've come to expect in Northern California! Maggie, the owner has created a space in place to enjoy dozens of different flavors of ice cream, as well as some non-dairy items. All of them are exceptional! The magical part is that it's a great place to sit with friends, family, or on your own, enjoying the sweet treats, and the space is warm and inviting We graciously were offered different samples to try, and each one was better than the next. I made chocolate and peanut butter girl, and Maggie had the perfect flavor just for me! This homemade gourmet ice cream is perfect for everyone! Seriously, with all the favors to select from, you will easily find two, three, or more flavors that you want to have! Pogi's candy bar craze is an absolute Must! It's filled with everything and then some. The Vietnamese velvet coffee buzz, is that scoop of ice cream that you actually want to add to your morning coffee and give you that extra kick! Rock with you Road, is filled with lots of nuts and marshmallow fluff and it's so yummy! Maggie and Pogi are both just the sweetest! And we can't wait to go back and try even more flavors

My friend and I were looking for a dessert spot after lunch, and I came across this place on Yelp! Upon entering, we were greeted so nicely by the owner and her family. You can tell it's a family-run business, and I find that very wholesome. They don't just have ice cream, they also have food and snacks you can eat as well. They are also working on making their own Italian ice (Mango, Lychee, Cherry, etc) which will be perfect for summer. The owner introduced us to their ice cream and how they make it in-house with the best ingredients. Their flavors were so unique, we had trouble deciding what to order. But luckily, they are very open to samples! I ended up getting the Ferrero Nutella Hazelnut Fantasy and I Love My Honey Very Matcha. Their ice cream flavors also had cute names with some takes on puns. The ice cream is very delicious, dense, and not too sweet which is good! There's plenty of tables to sit at after ordering. It looks like the business just opened a few months ago, so I hope they continue to grow with more customers! I look forward to visiting again to try more flavors & the food

The staff was really helpful introducing us to their menu items! The ice cream was really good, and definitely want to go back and try more things! The extra room to eat was so chill and nice, I could see myself coming back to study too. Great find!

Fantastic place. Cozy and lowkey. The owner Maggie is incredibly friendly and hardworking. Every time we visit, she comes to check on us and see how we're enjoying our food. The menu is quite extensive, and the iced creams are wonderfully creative! So many delicious blends! I can't even imagine how much work it must take to keep everything running! Nevertheless, she always does her best to provide her customers excellent and novel experiences, and she absolutely succeeds. This place really is one of a kind. I'm so glad I came across Chill Spot.

I stopped by on an evening to try the ice cream. Ice cream flavors were interesting. I went for a 3 scoop - perfectly pistachio, purely pecan perfection, baklava bliss royale. All 3 were excellent flavors. This is some of the best ice creams I ever had. I also went for a Fried chicksilog. That was flavorful.

I was craving a sweet treat after my meal and decided to visit this ice cream store. Unfortunately a handful of their flavors were sold out, including their matcha flavor! I believe this is because they make all of their ice cream in-house. I knew what I wanted when I walked in the door and ordered a junior size Golden Cocoa Swirl, which consists of Ghirardelli chocolate and a caramel swirl. So delicious! The worker (a young girl with pink hair) was incredibly sweet and encouraged me to taste other flavors. She informed me that the Will Ube Mine was the most popular as this is a Filipino-owned business! It was such a fragrant vanilla-esque flavor that I was obsessed, it's also vegan and non-dairy based for any lactose intolerant individuals or people with dietary restrictions. I felt like it wouldn't go super well with the chocolate, but I definitely want to visit here once the weather gets warmer to re-order it. I enjoyed visiting this store & will be returning.

It's a cute spot, parking in this part of downtown is easier to find. The ice cream was ok, I got a scoop of the ube and tres leches to go. They have a ton of interesting flavors that are dairy or non dairy. The girls working that day were so nice and helpful. There's a ton of indoor seating so this might be a cool spot to hang out with friends on a summer night.

Newly opened ice cream shop in San Mateo. The best ice cream ever! The Purely Pecan flavor was divine. It had pieces of pecan pie mixed in. The staff were so sweet and allowed us to taste the flavors until we settled on our favorites. The waffle cone was crispy and fresh. They also had a vegan option for a cone. They offer free meditation classes to the community on Sundays at 6pm. There is a table with chairs indoors to dine in.

I visited Chill Spot Rendezvous on a Thursday evening after work for the first time around 6 PM to do a Too Good To Go pickup and found the store front nearly empty with only one other customer in the side room working on their laptop. Whilst the kind staff member, Rose, was preparing my TGTG order she was generous enough to offer sample scoops of their ice cream. Even though I had initially only came in for a quick pickup operation, Rose encouraged me multiple times to try their ice cream, and emphasized that I should try as many as I would like. I sampled over a dozen flavors, many of them were unique with their own mix-ins, some were dairy free, and plenty were combinations not seen in other shops. By sample #2, the quality & flavor of their ice cream had already won me over. I knew I had to order a scoop after finishing my TGTG order, which was their delicious mini Dutch pancakes dusted in cinnamon sugar (8 pc), topped with a scoop of their Traditional Chocolate Ice Cream, whipped cream, and chocolate sauce. It also came with an iced lemon tea & 10% off coupon. It was difficult to decide which flavors to choose after sampling so many that were great, but I ended up getting a double scoop with their Banana Coconut Cream Pie Pleasure & Vietnamese Velvet Coffee. My only constructive feedback would be that some flavors of ice cream had an over-frozen icy texture. They store all their flavors in a small freezer in containers stacked atop one another. This means that some flavors tend to be deeper in the freezer, thus colder, causing some parts of the scoop to be a bit icy. If they manage to fix this issue to get a smooth texture all of the time then the ice cream would be top-notch. I encourage anyone in the area to swing by and support this small business. They have about a dozen or so tables tucked inside, serve coffee, tea, and food as well so maybe it can become a work/study space for some. The hospitality shown by Rose was unmatched and the desserts were great. There are many signs posted inside with all the upcoming events that they host, showing that they care about enriching the local community. I hope that they can become a mainstay in the San Mateo downtown area.

What a great mix of sweet treats, savory bites, and entertainment! Maggie, the owner, created an inviting environment for customers to have a snack, sing karaoke, or watch a movie. The peanut butter, chocolate, pretzel non-dairy ice cream was so yummy! This is a family-friendly option that offers treats and old-fashioned fun for everyone!

What a great find. This is the kind of place you'll walk by without knowing it is there. We had the homemade toasted coconut ice cream. It was wonderful. I'll definitely come back. Big space and they seem to serve some interesting hot food like empanadas and lumpia. Great people working explaining the background of their ice cream flavors.

Sitting area. Those rolling chairs might pose a safety hazard. Nice spacious area though.

I got the notice on Yelp of this new spot and saw that they have ube and so we tried it out after dinner. I must say location wise it's off the beaten path of the hustle and bustle of San Mateo downtown and they may get overlooked as a place to go. The cafe is spacious with a separate seating area- large enough for groups. The girls working the counter were helpful and one of them introduced us to their menu. It's great to know they offer non-dairy ice cream made with coconut milk. We tried the Ube - first few spoonfuls were delicious but our tongues/mouth were pretty purple and the ice cream was very sweet so I had to stop. I think a kids scoop would have satisfied me enough. I want to ask - how much food coloring was used. We may come back to try the other flavors and maybe even the lumpia or rice plate special. FYI- they do have GF waffle cones.

    Lumpia and Jamaican beef patty.

Located in downtown San Mateo, it can definitely be difficult to find parking, even in the garages. We had to circle around a couple of times until finding a street parking spot. Keep that time in consideration and come early if you have a reservation. The inside has relatively dim lighting and is quite spacy, and there's plenty of seating both upstairs and downstairs. Service was pretty quick despite how busy it was, and the servers were great! We ordered: - hot calamansi tea - thai chili & garlic wings - inihaw na pusit - pork sisig - sinigang - garlic rice The food came out pretty quickly and mostly all at once. Standouts of the night were the inihaw na pusit (super tender and chewy, and grilled with a great char) and pork sisig (super umami and tender). With that being said, was very satisfied with all the dishes, and there wasn't one that left a negative impression. I will say that this restaurant does lean on the pricier end, but there's a great ambiance for good food and conversations with friends. Would come back!

We ordered several things off the menu including the appetizer sampler (fried calamari, fried shrimp, wings, and lumpia Shanghai), garlic rice, pandit bihon, bangus sisig, chicken adobo, pork sisig, bangus sisig, and crispy pata. I ate the fried calamari and shrimp, bangus sisisg, garlic rice, and a piece of chicken adobo. I also ordered a side of fried egg to make my dish a silog. Loved the fried rice and bangus sisig. The prices are very reasonable for the meats, and they have a variety of limitless sauces you can grab. The only negative is that the sides can be better, but that's fine - totally into going pure meat for them! We typically get the 3 meat plates because it's a great value and can feed two. I sometimes can even share one with my parents. All their meats taste equally good. Our favorites are the beef brisket and pork ribs, but their pulled pork and smoked chicken are very moist, tender, and flavorful as well. We sometimes get a hot link on the side, as it's smooth with a good snap and spice. You can request it to be sliced. The grilled chicken breasts are not as tender as the other meats, but still has a good barbecue flavor - I imagine you'd get this if you need to eat lean. For sides, the mac & cheese, baked beans, and corn muffin are our favorites. The mac has a chunky and thick Velveeta-like coating, the beans have a strongly sweet and smoky robust flavor, and the corn muffin has a soft texture. The slaws are more vinegary, and the other sides are something you'd expect from your local grocer's prepared food section. Another thing that Capelo's Barbecue does well are the sauces - they have four types that escalate in heat. They all have very different flavor profiles and are on the sweet and tangy side, but I like them all. Their spiciest sauce is not that bad and does have some natural sweetness, but you should have water ready anyways because it's the spice that slowly grows on your tongue. The employees are extremely nice and efficient, both from the food truck and brick and mortar in Redwood City. One day when we came in for a pickup order, they were celebrating an employee's birthday and offered everyone a slice of cake! I wouldn't be surprised if I went to the South and had better BBQ, but we're in Northern California so I'll note Capelo's as amongst the best I've had in the bay (I've tried a lot of them). It seems they sporadically have live music at their dine-in location (which closes late for a barbecue place), so I hope to join them sometime in the summer for that! Their schedule is posted on their website, and they also have both indoor and outdoor seating, and a beer garden. Parking is not that bad, since they're away from downtown and have their own small lot. Their food truck roams around the entire bay, but I especially love partaking when they go to my local Off the Grid.
