In: 6pm Sharp. Out: 8:52 pm. I'm going to finish this review tomorrow, so I can sleep on what I am about to write about this place & the amount of white shame this place exemplifies. So here we are 14 hours later so I could properly assess this review to make sure that I wasn't speaking out of emotion. This review is probably going to trigger some people, but it's honest. I'll get the basics out of the way. The place was super busy and had a 45 minute wait. This is important & I'll get to that in a second. Decorum: Typical chilis, TVs everywhere. Somewhat clean, except when I had to ask for a bar rag to wipe down the spot that I sat at that the other couple had left. I ordered the SmokeHouse 3 item plate. Ribs, jalapeno sausage & Nashville hot chicken tenders. Came w/ fries & mac n cheese. I don't have high expectations of BBQ outside of my own, for obvious reasons so it was typical Chili's food. Except the Nashville hot tenders, weren't Nashville hot at all, no spice or heat whatsoever. You may want to stop reading now, because this is where it's gonna get real. Like I said there was a 45 minute wait for food, cuz the kitchen was so backed up. I generally don't care, I thought this place being busy was actually a good thing. This poor elderly couple were crammed into the tiny waiting booth waiting on their table, which there were several that were open. The hostess took them back and sat them since they have been sitting beyond the 45 min. but they still had to wait for their food. So I sit at the bar, that another couple had just vacated. Now I understand, it's busy in there so I wasn't really expecting that section to be cleaned right off the bat, except for the fact that the bartender passed by me a good 5 or 6 times until I had to ask her for a rag to wipe my spot, which she replied "oh I thought you had been taking care of already, I see a water cup there." WRONG YOU'RE THE ONLY BARTENDER. YOU KNOW DAMN WELL I just sat down because you saw me. They gave me the whole 45 minute spiel. I'm not in a big hurry, so I don't care, I just wanna couple cocktails while I wait to order. So after about 15 minutes have passed, I get my first cocktail, and she asks me if I want a menu. Duh. As I'm sitting there waiting for her to ask me for my order, this really nice sweet black lady sits right next to me. At this point I've been there probably about a half an hour. The bartender goes rushing up to her takes her drink order & her food order. Her drink is made immediately, her food comes out w/in 10 minutes. What happened to the 45 minute wait? All the while, I am still waiting to order my food. She's in & out in under 30 minutes. A couple other white people sit in the bar, essentially getting the same treatment I'm getting. Finally, she's nice enough to take my food order but I have to ask her for another cocktail, in which she should have offered. About 15 minutes pass, and another black gentleman sits across at the bar. ONCE AGAIN, the bartender is racing over, & this guy has a beer before his butt cheeks even hit the seat, all the while the other patrons that were there before are still waiting to be served. Within 5 minutes, no more than 10, his hot wings come out, and the bartender is nice enough to offer him another beer. I'm still waiting on my food. 10 min later, his Burger plate comes out, & offered yet another beer. At this point I've been sitting for probably an 1¼ hours, and have had only 3 cocktails. He finishes his food, he pays & leaves. I continue to sit. After about 40 more minutes my food finally comes out. Barback comes over and starts talking about "African-American gentleman this, African American gentleman that" which is fine. But it's also completely fine to not be politically correct, because he would not be saying that "Anglo-Saxon gentleman". After finishing my meal, I probably waited another 35 minutes to get my check, that I had to ask for as I sat with an empty glass for that entire time. I got a glimpse of the GM, and that explained everything. I travel ALL OVER the country, state by state on a daily basis and I thought all of this DEI rhetoric and racism/reverse racism, and white shame was just that. But apparently people actually buy into it, & for the very first time, I personally experienced it. That's why I had to give it a day before writing this review just to make sure. I feel so bad for the elderly couples and the families that go in there and get treated as second class citizens because of the color of their skin. I can't believe this whole topic has taken a complete 180. I don't like Illinois to begin with, & I definitely will not be coming back to this Chili's & I will be contacting a corporate representative. This was just flat out unacceptable. If you're a single white guy, expect a good 1 1/2 hours, at least, & keep an eye on the people that are able to come in and out and be served in a timely manner, paid attention to, and treated w/ respect. read more

Clearly, chain restaurants can have deficiencies and I suppose its easy to hate on them, but I can't understand the poor past scores received at this location. My wife and I stopped for a quick Monday lunch and were very pleased with the efficient and friendly service, as well as with the quality of the lunch salads, quesadilla, and Chicken-Avocado Mex lunch bowl we enjoyed. Our ice teas were good too and our glasses were never allowed to be empty. One other thing. When patrons finished and left, I noticed that staff descended on booths and tables and cleaned/sanitized with a level of energy and thoroughness that I have seldom witnessed. It was noteworthy and should be recognized. This Chili's is exceptionally clean. We're pleased to recommend Chili's in Mt. Vernon, IL. read more

The food was very Overpriced, the service sucked and on top of everything else, everything my husband asked for was "out" We were in Mt. Vernon, IL on our way home from Nashville and had stopped for the night Around 7 my husband and I went across the street to Chili's for dinner. My husband ordered ribs and when he picked his sides, they were all out. He ended up getting sides that he really didn't want. I ordered the salmon and it was so overcooked, you had to use a knife to separate it Our bill was $82 for 2 dinners, an iced tea and a water, and a dessert. They upcharged my husband's meal (1/2 rack of ribs) because his sides were "premium" sides. When I brought it to the waitress attention, she said that he ordered the premium sides and I told her that was all there was left to order. I said that I wanted to speak to the manager she went to get him but he wouldn't come out and speak to me. She was told to tell me that we ordered the food, ate the food and now had to pay for the food. I've eaten at alot of Chili's and have never been treated the way I was in this one. I will never eat at Chili's ever again. This chain of restaurants are way behind the times and this one in particular should just close down if that's the way they treat all of their customers. read more

First off I have to say that the hostess was very pleasant with greeting us. Our waitress, and the male waiter who had a table behind us where both great! The food was a different story. We ordered beef queso dip for an appetizer( great tortilla chips). We get this dark brown, runny, stuff with what has a couple unidentifiable chunks in it. It tastes like old beans. Entrees: I get regular steak fajitas, my husband gets the trio fajitas which include chicken and shrimp, that comes with rice and beans.. I spit my first and only bite of rice right into my napkin, the beans weren't the worst thing I'd ever tasted, but they where close. The fajitas.. ugh grey steak strips with ZERO seasoning, not dry, not tough, not cold... ZERO taste, and a color that I'd never seen a steak before. The onions, green bell peppers, and red bell peppers where mostly not cooked through like you expect with fajitas , or so over done and shriveled, it was like I had old vegetables mixed in with new one's. My husband's corn tortillas where all split in half, broken. 1 bowl of "beef queso", 2 fajita meals, i had 2 long Island ice teas, my husband had 2 cokes, and we paid the $2.99 fee to be able to play unlimited trivia game's at the table. After tip, because like I said she deserved it, was over $100.00!! We used a $30 dollar gift card, and then came out of pocket about $70.00 dollar's!! As we sat at the bar and waited to put our order in which took a few minutes. It wasn't because the bar was full. From where we were sitting we can see the kitchen and our bar waiter Bri and other waitress (the smaller younger girl with a dark brown braided hair) eating out of a square pan which contained French fries. They weren't using gloves but more grabbing the fries out of the food tray. When someone's burger order came out the same waitress scooped the fries out with a metal utensils and served it to a couple sitting on the outer part of the bar. It was unpleasant to watch. I stated to my husband at least we didn't order fries. We did say something the another lady but she just looked at us like what you want me to do. I understand breaks and taking lunch. But when you're wiping salt off on the jeans and touching the food tray and serving to other customers that's a health issue. They served two separate tables those fries, without hesitation. Stopped in on our way driving through for Christmas travels. It's our first time eating at a Chilis. We were both surprised how much we like both our meals. #01-2022 Well first one for the new year The Chili's in Mount Vernon Illinois came down here to have a steak and a beer for my birthday and it's right across the street from the TA so it's a little bit but okay walk. Walking in I noticed some people were sitting around and I looked at Google and I looked at Yelp and it said 15 minutes and no wait well it turned out to be about a 47 minute wait till an hour. What struck me as odd at 1st was half of the restaurant was empty but because of the staffing issues they could not seat at almost half of a boost so you had to wait unless you want to sit at the bar but that was jam-packed.. So I give the gal my phone number and said well I'm just going to sit down and one of these waiting areas here I don't have a car I got my truck it's like a block and a half walk away so I patiently waited. It was time to get seated I ordered a Michelob ultra on draft. This is a small chili's so they have a limited on draft selection and it's also by chili standards a smaller restaurant also. I opted for the sirloin steak 10 oz medium and the mashed potatoes unloaded. And broccoli well done so it was soft. Food was brought out it was a little more closer to medium well but I wasn't going to say much because who knows how long it would take to get it redone with limited staffing in the kitchen also. Mashed potatoes were good the broccoli was done nice and I enjoyed the steak. Although it's expensive I decided to have a slice of cheesecake to it almost $7.30 but they do give you a nice size hunk it's better for two people but I'm a glutton so I didn't give a damn and it's my birthday too so LOL. I did use the can before I left. It was clean but could have been cleaner but it is what it is. All in all I give my first review for the year 3 stars nothing great at this Chili's but nothing terrible either although I know they were working hard so I think I gave her a halfway decent tip too I hope. This is one that I would probably if I was at the TA I would think twice before I walked over unless I really wanted a Chili's meal homestly. This is more basically for locals and folks staying at the hotels nearby. people at the it's good but for me I've been to much better Chili's but as I said it's okay. I have always had great food and service at our local Chili's. The drinks are also really good. My only issues are that it is a very cramped space and noisy. It's not great for people with disabilities or parties larger than 4. You're sitting right on top of the table next to you and you WILL back into the patron behind you if you choose a table over a booth. It's also VERY loud. If you or your kids are easily overstimulated, sensitive to loud noises, etc. just order ahead and carry out. The food is great! read more

I had the fajita trio and it looked absolutely wonderful... but I wish it tasted absolutely wonderful. The chicken had a weird taste and the shrimps sauce wasn't appetizing. The rice tasted like it was boiled in old tomato soup! The waitress was extremely friendly and brung refills very quickly. The shows were by far the best part of the meal. I might try this place in the future but as of right now NEVER AGAIN. read more

I really don't understand the low rating here. We eat here about once a month. Always have had quick, good service. We moved here fromCA last year and I think the food is better here than what we got there. My go to is the lunch special with honey chipotle chicken strips. Love that sauce. Everything started off fine until it came time to order. When it came time to order she didn't bring us out the complimentary chips and salsa. Instead we had to ask for them, and proceed to wait another ten or more minutes for them. They are supposed to be complimentary but, they charged use another almost seven dollars for them. Everything else was fine, that was until we were wrapping up our meal (mind you, I went with my mother). I asked to get a lava cake without caramel, I would honestly rather eat dirt than eat caramel. But, as you may guess they put caramel on to my lava cake. So they brought another one out for me to eat instead. It could have been a little bit warmer but, it was ok. Our waitress said that she would take the first lava cake off of the check but, instead she just made another check for it. We asked about it and she said that she would do something about it, she never came back to our table. So, we asked her again, and this time she took the second check off. Lastly, the scent things in the men's restroom smelled like someone pooped on it, sprayed it with some cheap cleaning spray, then put it on the toilet seat. I'm in town for work business, so me and my GF stopped here after a days work to eat. We both ordered the Margarita Grilled Chicken. I can say the waitress was friendly, but the rice on this dish was not cooked right. It was semi-hard. We didn't eat it, we just ate the chicken and the black beans. Good thing we had the White Spinach Queso, which by the way was WAYYY better than the dinner itself. Why didn't we complaint? Awful service. Food was decent, but our server ignored us in favor of goofing around with the other people in the kitchen. (we could see into the kitchen entrance, and hear what was going on). Most of the staff during the lunch shift seemed to be about high-school age, maybe a little older. And way too pre-occupied with socializing with each other, instead of tending to their customers. Plus, she wasn't very polite or personable, took our orders as if she had better things on her mind. At one point, after we'd waited 10 minutes without drink refills, while watching/listening to what amounted to a lot of laughing and goofing around in the kitchen, my husband actually got up and walked up to the server's station and ASKED for more tea. You'd think this would elicit a lot of apologies and would prompt the server to be more attentive? No dice....towards the end of our meal, there we were with empty drinks AGAIN....sat waiting on our check for another 10 minutes and when she brought the check, she didn't even offer a refill. We went to the Chili's because it's right by all the truck stops, we figured we'd park the truck and go eat some decent food instead of the truckstop garbage. If you're a driver thinking about walking to one of the nearby restaurants- go to Cracker Barrel, go to Roadhouse, go to Ryan's, go to the Denny's at the Pilot. Avoid Chili's, especially at lunch. Dinner may be a different story (it probably is)....but lunchtime is a lot like being waited on by the "popular bimbos" from high school, who have more important people to socialize with than their customers. It's extraordinarily rare that I under-tip....I almost always tip 20% or more, for good service. I don't remember what I left this girl....I was tempted to NOT tip her at all, but I am pretty sure I put a couple of bucks on the table, less than 10%. She hardly deserved that but I find it hard to bring myself to entirely withhold a tip. read more

Its a Chilis. I only come here for lunch usually while working. Good beer specials at happy hour. I have not noticed ANY of the cleanliness issues that other reviewers mentioned. The chips and salsa here (and every other Chilis) is the best! I usually get the lunch burger or the quesadillas. Hard to go wrong with either choice! The most miserable place on earth!! Brittany the bartender was nice but it was excruciatingly hot inside. I went in on July 4 at 9pm. Outside temp was 85, i side temp was hotter. Unbelievable!! I could not enjoy myself and watch the game. I had to go outside to cool off. All Brittany could say is the other side is a little cooler. REALLY??!! A little??!! Wasn't that impressed at all. We only came here for an appetizer and a drink to watch some football. We sat at the bar, and it was quick to get our drinks and chips, but that's about the extent of the good service. First off, this Chili's does not have the NFL Sunday Ticket, whereas all of the other ones I've been to did. You'd think being in the middle of three truck stops they would, but nope. Besides that, the bartender ignored us and was quick to hand us our check without asking if we wanted more to drink. read more
