We decided to come for a late night dinner around 9 on a weeknight, not very busy and we decided to grab a high top table. We were promptly greeted by one of the servers who was very attentive and friendly throughout our dinner. We both ordered triple dippers which were fantastic (if you know you know)! I got the fried mozzarella, honey chipotle boneless wings, and southwest egg rolls. My partner got the buffalo chicken crispers and bone-in wings, as well as the mini burgers. I came to the Chili's here in Ellenton and had the 3 & Me meal with the small sirloin and said please cook it a medium and not anything over a medium, and the waitress feels the same way about steaks. It came medium well for half the steak, so we sent it back. Then some employee brings back my steak trying to convince me that some of it is sort of medium. I pointed out the obvious. The waitress disappeared, and my drink refill was nowhere to be found and my steak sauce never arrived, The male employee hovered at my table for awhile, hoping I would keep the overcooked steak, but when I challenged him he technically said that he could cook another one, but said other steaks may come out the same, It was like negotiating with a WALL , He stood there for too long, and I felt like I was getting NOWHERE with him, so I finally had to tell him that I JUST WANTED TO EAT, He didn't get what I was saying so I said it again, meaning, please leave me alone so I can EAT, I ate the overdone steak with no steak sauce and no drink. Not good, I told the waitress what happened and she didn't want to hear it and said OK with a tone that shut me up. NOT GOOD. I told her that she was sweeping the issue under the table and that I ate the overcooked steak without the steak sauce she was supposed to bring and without my drink. Then she brings me TWO drinks, and wishes me a great night, Huh? With this level of not giving a care about the customer's experience AND coming to my table to make me accept an overdone steak AND not bringing the steak sauce nor drink, ignoring my displeasure at all of this, and then wishing me a great night, there is a great disconnect between lousy service and well wishing pleasantries. First off - I love Chili's as a chain. This location decided to partner with a local school and offer a coupon for a free appetizer with the purchase of an entree and I called beforehand to confirm and got there and they wouldn't take the coupon for my appetizer because what I chose was "too expensive." I wish we had the same experience at dinner that we had at lunch. We were greeted by someone who was smiling and made us feel welcome. We were seated right away and looked through the menus. And we sat. Our table had crumbs so we had to flag down someone to clean it. The person said she just came on and the person ahead of her didn't finish cleaning. No problem. We waited a bit for our server to come by to take order and finally the same person that cleaned the table came by to take care our order. We ordered the shrimp fajitas and a ribeye steak with mashed. We had a free queso and chips off the app so had that for an appetizer. The queso came fairly quickly. It had a skin on top so may have been sitting. The chips and salsa are delightfully thin and crispy. The shrimp fajitas were just ok. They had a strange flavor that I didn't care for different from other fajitas. The steak and broccoli were good but the mashed were not. Overall, food and service for dinner was not as good as it was for lunch. It could have been an off day and other dinner selections may be better. Chilis has upped the quality of their food. It's still Tex mex, but the quality of the food is much better than it previously was. You can't ever go wrong with the southwest egg rolls or the honey chipotle boneless wings, but the real surprise is their new mozzarella. It's delicious! Went tonight around 6pm, half the bar was open and more than half of the main area tables were empty yet it was a 45 minute wait. It's Monday night, restaurant is barely half full and the wait time was because of staffing. When we approached the hostess stand and said 3 people the reply was "it's at LEAST a 45 minute wait...we just had a large party come in and we are short Staffed" I live nearby and honestly try around once a month to go to this location and it's the same thing every time. We walked in at 7:05pm on Tuesday, Dec 12, 2023. The hostess was a young blonde girl and was immediately shoved to the side by an older heavy set hostess that had the nastiest attitude. I asked that we needed a table for 12. She never looked at me and said "30-40 min wait.". I replied "The restaurant is half empty why can't you sit us over on that empty tables section?" She repeated "There's still a 30-40 min wait." We decided to wait til my sister asked politely again "Why the 30 min wait when the restaurant is half empty?" She replied "That doesn't change anything, there's still a 30-40 min wait." I called Applebees across the street and they said "Come on over! They were super nice and their staff met our needs and went beyond to accommodate us. Avoid the CHILIS in the Elllenton Mall area. The were so nasty to us. The food was SO GOOD!! I haven't been to Chilis in years and they really have stepped it up! EVERYTHING was so good and fresh! The drinks were delicious AND happy hour every hour, every day Our server was Eric and he was tremendous! He checked on us just enough to where we enjoyed our food and he just knew when to ask us for anything! He was super fast and we even made changes last minute to our order and he helped us with that!! Definitely would love to have him again as our server! There was a little bit of a wait when we came in but when we came back it cleared out pretty fast and the tables were clean and it was just a nice, fun and casual night.
