Today was a wonderful surprise. We stopped in to Alamogordo Chili's for a cool drink and a quick bite for the granddaughter. We were seated immediately, drinks taken and arrived pronto. Waitress was very pleasant, and working her tail off. Manager dropped by with a smile and hello. While food was being prepared, child needed the restroom. The women's bathroom was spotless. Smelt clean, fresh and each stall had been cleaned. The nice lotion, soap , and air freashner offered on the bathroom counter was a nice addition. Food was served hot, complete order and very tasty. We were not quite ready to order so she said she would give us a few minutes. Those few minutes turned into more like 20. She came by once said I will be right back , never saw her again. Wow. I understand that there are very few dining options within walking distance of the hotels, and beggars truly can't be choosers but this one really takes the cake. I tried desperately to find something remotely healthy on the Chili's menu, and decided to go with the chicken tacos with all of the fixins on the side. Unfortunately, when I lifted the taco from my plate, I was greeted by a giant pool of gritty grease. I sopped that up with a napkin and dived in. There was barely any chicken! It was all cheese!! I figured that I could probably drown the mediocre flavor with sides, but the guac with brown!! $1.75 for a tiny scoop of brown guacamole. No good. Chili's gets one star for their wait staff. Our waitress was lovely and didn't give us any crap for ordering fancy beers, which they were unfortunately out of. Don't even dream about an ice cold Stella or Heineken. Settle for a Bass or something domestic, which they have in mass quantities I am going to try desperately to avoid Chili's during my extended stay in Alamogordo, but I'm not sure how successful that may be. read more

We are on a road trip and came here for food because it seemed like the only place in this town that might be able to remind us of food in California (where we are from) and we were hit with great disappointment. The only thing that was nice was the fact that it looked like a chilis from California. The food was absolutely terrible, don't let my pictures deceive you. Okay, I know its chilis so food will never seem, "fresh" but all our food was nasty, and you'll almost never hear me say negative comments like that but our food was not good. I ordered the guacamole turkey burger. It was very cold, as if it came out of a freezer pre maid and then attempted to be microwaved but didn't finish warming up yet. For some reason the guacamole in my burger was hotter (in temperature) than the burger itself. My dad ordered some tacos that he said were not too bad which is a surprise because he's the hardest guy to impress with food, but he said his rice tasted like it had been sitting all day waiting to be put on a plate. My brother ordered the chicken tenders and they tasted like they were fried in a fryer containing only melted butter (I tried it also). And my moms fajita plate was just sad to look at. The only thing that wasn't complained about on the table was the triple berry margarita. What killed it for all of us was that we received a dirty dish. It was as if someone just out it in the washer without spraying or scrubbing it and used it to serve people. Trust me I would know, I work in a restaurant. We also received plates with chipped corners. One thing that was nice was the service. The lady who waited on us was very nice. Not once did my drink go empty. But when we were first getting seated, the male waiter had put us in a seat we didn't like and we asked to move (there were plenty of seats we could have moved to) and it was as if it was such an inconvenience for him. The beef fahitas are really good, whatever they marinate them in is awesome. The triple dipper appetizer with artichoke spinach dip, burger bites, and southwest egg-rolls are very good. The bar area has plenty of big TV's. Staff are very pleasant. After 5 on Friday is pretty busy. Every time I have ordered for pickup the food NEVER tastes as good. Edit Jun 2012 After 3 years of visiting this place on a regular basis I have changed my rating based on the following. The owner or "Lady in charge" seems to frequent this place. She occupy's a booth during the busy hours while people are waiting to be seated. In addition, she apparently wants to be slathered with attention from the young waiters and waitresses who are now too busy to attend to customers needs because they are all kissing butt with the boss. I sat in a booth adjacent to her and simply could not believe the attention she apparently requires (She allows it to happen). I was honestly a little worried about coming here after reading the reviews...BUT, as I am sitting at the bar in Chili's, I can see my apartment...so, I gave it a try. The only negative so far is a funky smell that wafts through now & then-not too nauseating, but odd and slightly off-putting. I got the sampler appetizer plate because I wanted to play it safe. I knew I would get the chicken crispers & southwest egg rolls but was unsure about my third choice. My bartender recommended the cheddar bites (which I had never seen at Chili's before-she told me they were like cheese sticks but in bite size form-she was right & they were good). So, food, all in all-good, not great-but it is fried bar food at a national chain-so, it was as expected. Not outstanding but decent. That's why the 4 star review-I rarely give 5 star reviews at a chain (Pappadeux, for example, being an exception to that rule). Ok, I would give the service 5 stars & I really wish they broke it all down like that! I got here a few minutes after 11am on a Sunday, which is when they open & there were already a handful of cars & about 15 people seated in the bar when I entered. This place can only survive because it is so isolated. No competition. We (6 women) were there on Nov. 13, to celebrate a 60th birthday. Had to wait more than an hour to get our meals while everyonr around us was served. Then the medium rare meat was burnt, the chicken on the side never came (asked three times). The Marguaritas came in beer glasses and those ordered without salt of course came with. A manager stopped by half way through the meal to ask how we were doing and left with an awkward smile when we were not overly enthusiastic. Obviously, they don't care. Chilis is a great place to go to on a Friday night with friends. It is the only place in town that I know of that makes a full strength margarita and they are actually really good. The chips and salsa are also really solid and anything on their menu is pretty decent. Unfortunately, when they are busy it takes forever for your order to come out especially drinks. I want my money back for the missing skillet queso I was charged for! Last time will not be ordering curbside either did that and it was almost an hour wait. On top of that you prioritize door Dash I watched three drivers go and pick up their food with no issues. Five of us carry out customers were still waiting patiently going on 30 minutes by the time I got my cup food it was lukewarm had been sitting on the rack because you only had one team member to try and organize everything and bless her heart she was. And running her tail off as far as whoever the manager is you're worthless to leave your people like that shame on you shame on you shame on you! I watched other team members leave while people were waiting for food and there was only one person in the carry out area she got help from one individual at one moment and that was it in an hour while I sat there. I moved here in 2009 and every time I have been in Chili's it is always been a horrible experience as far as timely wait staff any of it. So I decided to do curbside a try and I'm done with that I just want my money back on the food I was charged and didn't receive also I left my name an number for the manager to call still nothin. I came to eat here yesterday, on a Friday night. I only waited about 3 minutes and my family and I were seated. I ordered the chips and guacamole for appetizer, and it was just very salty but tasty-the guacamole over powered the saltiness of the chips. So, not a big deal. Our waitress was very courteous and quick with our drinks except the beer. For some reason maybe the bartender was over whelmed so, beer could've been served a little faster. The waitress was so sweet but the manager didn't seem to actually care that my throat was itchy and it was hard for me to swallow. It obviously ruined our dinner. They re-made my food and packaged it to go for us then gave us a $2 DISCOUNT. I asked the waitress why they were making us pay for a meal that made me SICK and that I didn't even eat, she said her manager gave me a $2 DISCOUNT. Went into Chilli's last night. They had tables available, but did not have the staff to get them to get them cleaned so had to wait 10 minutes to get seated. Waitress was quick and friendly. Ordered honey Chipotle chicken which was good. What I did not understand was they served it on a metal tray with what looked to be some sort of paper under the food. We eat at Chili's regularly and some of those experiences are stellar while others leave something to be desired, but today, today was one for the books. The restaurant was BUSY so our group of 7 was sat at the high tops in the bar area. We received some of the best service I have ever experienced even though our waiter was tending bar as well. There is not a whole lot I can say to rave about the food. Chili's is pretty much nationally the same. You know what you are getting food-wise when you come here. The service is where our location shines. Management has always been awesome, we rarely have service issues. We moved down to Alamogordo 3.5 years ago and our first night in town, we had our kitchen in boxes, so we came to Chili's since we were unfamiliar with the area restaurants. We had a filling dinner, our service was good. The reason I will always remember this visit is because the manager sat down with us and chatted for almost 30 minutes about Alamogordo. She also ended up comping our meals and sent us along on our way feeling really awesome for ending g up in Alamogordo. We continue to come here because the staff are truly excellent! The server was prompt and friendly however the food was sub-par to say the least. We came on a Sunday afternoon because the parking lot was partially empty. Our plates looked as if thrown together...we ordered the ranchero chicken tacos and soup and salad. The enchilada soup was very runny and was mostly broth. I added tortilla chips to it to thicken it up. The chicken in the tacos was so dry and so was the rice. We have had better dining experiences and will most likely be dining more in Las Cruces than Alamogordo. read more

Came for dinner with 4 adults & 1 child. Seated within 20 minutes. Drinks came pretty quickly, as did the sample platter appetizer. I had a bite of broccoli & loaded mashed & a few bites from the salmon; but the salmon was off. I was expecting a spicy ancho sauce & it was "sweet baby rays with some chopped cilantro on top"?!?!?!?!?! While chewing I felt a hard object. At first I thought it was a bone & started spitting the entire bite out into my napkin. Upon further review I discovered a sharp, thick piece of plastic!! I WAS DISGUSTED. I had taken 4-5 bites of food & found that. My appetite was done. After informing the waitress, she brought over a manager named "Summer". She asked if I wanted another fillet & I said "NO WAY"! I'm not hungry anymore... She insisted that she would watch them make the food & I told her no, because I would not eat it! She didn't charge us for the 15.00 salmon plate, but that was it. She never apologized & kept rolling her eyes. Everyone else enjoyed their meals & kept offering me bites of their food, but out of fear 'for my own health' I declined.
