I definitely recommend the king Ludwig schnitzel. The pork chops were perfectly cooked, the mushroom gravy was excellent, and the home made egg spatzle was the best I've ever had! If I were to go back, I would stay in the hotel and eat here for days. One warning though, not all of the menu items are in the English speaking portion of the menu, if you can't read German, I suggest using google translate and looking at that part of the menu because the best items are in that part.

We came around 7.30 and sat inside because it was chilly, but they have a lovely patio with mountain views. The margherita pizza and gnocchi were not amazing, but they hit the spot. We also enjoyed a bavarian dunkel and a shot of jagr, which we poured into an espresso. It was a great mix.

The salad was light and refreshing with fresh ingredients. The pork knuckle was cooked well with perfectly crunchy skin. The vegetable soup was very good. We finished off with a big bowl of ice cream. Great meal to end there Castle tour!

This restaurant gets quite busy during lunch time as this seems to be the restaurant of choice by hundreds of tourists. So plan accordingly. They have the traditional Austro-German food like wiener schnitzel, brats, spatzl. They also have soups, salads, beef tartare, burgers, falafel sandwich, etc. For dessert, their cake display is promising: Apfelstrudel, Sacher torte, marble cake, cheesecake, Black Forest cake, etc. What I would recommend: Braised Beef with Spatzl Kaiserschmarrn Black Forest Cake Walnut Ice Cream Hot Chocolate Breakfast is from 7am-10:30am, lunch to dinner is from 11am-8:30pm. The pricing? Quite expensive for what you get. You're paying for the view of Hohenschwangau Castle. Are the restaurants nearby better? Yes. If you look/ sound like a tourist, they leave you alone which works for me. I actually don't like overly friendly servers that perfectly time when they ask you about your food while you have your mouth full. I just want to enjoy my meal in peace and quiet. Should I need anything, I will let you know.

She patiently translated every menu item into English, without being asked. I had the Schweinebratl (roast pork) - juicy and very good. We ate outside - be prepared for traffic noise - the outdoor seating is very close to a major road from Innsbruck into Germany. The place has a very traditional and authentic Tyrolian look. Still worth a stop if you are traveling this way.
