My boyfriend goes to school in Oregon, and I love to stop by the shop and get their slime from my niece. It smells so good and it last forever. First of all, if I could I would have bought one of everything here. This shop is such a nice addition to the historic bay front, and just Newport in general. You can tell each item was hand selected for its quality. Having grown up in Newport, it can be hard to find many local shops in smaller towns that sell good quality baby/ kids items as perhaps maybe most felt like the market for it isn't there-- but it is! The prices might seem high for some items, but you're paying for top quality, well made items that will last. They carry some items we've found online, like the Slumberkins line, but it's so much better to be able to buy locally- not to mention be able to touch and feel them. I can't speak for how the shop is/ was with kids, as we didn't have any with us when we visited but I will say the two ladies that were working were absolutely pleasant and very helpful. I would definitely recommend stopping in whether you're shopping for your own child or someone else's. read more

Cute shop in the historic bay front. I ordered a puzzle from their online shop for in store pickup and the process was seamless. They even were sure to call me to let me know my order was ready to pickup so that I wouldn't accidentally miss the email. My only disappointment was that the puzzle selection was small. read more

My sister was visiting Newport and saw a jacket I would love. I was able to purchase the item via an invoice emailed to me, then pay online, and received the item 5 days later. Shipping was only $5. I absolutely adore Ashley at Childish Tendencies. Ashley has gone above and beyond to help me with all of my random shopping needs for years. Not only does she have an an amazing selection, She goes above and beyond for every one of her customers. Ashley has always made sure my kids have the perfect Christmas jammies and the cutest clothes. She always has the perfect gift for whatever occasion I need it for and she helped pick the perfect easter basket stuffers and saved the Easter Bunny's butt this year. She is quick to help me locate what I am looking for, often helps cover the cost of my shipping, and has been known to send little surprises withy orders that make me smile. A fantastic shop, run by responsive and caring staff. It should be noted that this is a children's boutique, carrying boutique brands. You can not go here expecting to find cheap items. I absolutely do not recommend this store. We were enjoying looking at the trinkets and toys with our four year old son, and when it was time to leave, he started to protest. I had been considering purchasing the wooden car set he had been playing with for a few minutes, but it was very overpriced and when he began to argue, I did not want to reward him with a gift. We got him to stack the cars back up on their truck counterpart, but then my partner had to pick him up to escort him out of the store because he would not leave. At this point, I was still considering coming back by myself to purchase the toy for a Christmas gift because he seemed to really like it. I apologized to the woman in the store (who turned out to be the owner: Susan Armstrong) and we began to leave. I heard the woman mutter something that sounded rude, so I turned around and said, "Excuse me?" She said, "I can't believe you don't know how to pick up toys! This is the second time! It's not my job to pick up after you." She was referring to when we had left momentarily to take my son to the restroom. I looked and in the struggle to leave my son had left the truck, neatly packed, sitting on the floor about six inches from its display, requiring her to merely lift it and set it back on the table. I was flabbergasted. Yes, Owner of the children's toystore, it *is* in fact your job to tidy up your shop. It is also your job to be polite and friendly to customers and kind to children and parents. It was spitting rain outside and we were struggling with our son, and she actually stopped us to criticize us. She continued to make rude, uncalled for remarks as we left. To the owner of the shop: You definitely displayed some "Childish Tendencies". I hope you are ashamed. I hope you feel as sick as I do about your disgusting rudeness. I hope you learn to feel empathy, particularly for your target customer: people with children. I will NEVER visit your shop again, and I have recommended to all of my friends that they also steer clear. read more

I am a local and this was my second time having a bad experience with who I am assuming is the owner. Just not friendly at all and made us feel unwelcome. I know we are going through covid stuff right now but that is no excuse. You either need to shut your doors or be thankful for the business you are getting and be a little nicer. The toys are incredibly over priced but it is nice to be able to take my kids every once in a while to pick something out other than ordering online. read more

My kids love this store! My daughter goes straight to the princess section while my son loves the toddler toys and all the pirate stuff. They also have a huge selection of fun hats, dress up outfits, toys, Melissa and Doug toys and puzzles, and so much more. They also have a fun do it yourself photo studio with lots of outfits and accessories. A great place to shop! read more

I am a local and would not recommend this overpriced store to anyone! When the store first opened as a "dress up" photography place for kids, I took my children and some friends to patronize a new local business. They had fun, but it was hot and there was no place for parents to sit and watch and enjoy the kids. But it was something new. Then they turned into the overpriced store that they are now. Many items carried are bought through Oriental Trading Company (I'm pretty sure) and marked up like %200 (ex. rubber duckies). Then to top it off, they are a children's store yet they are not child friendly! My 4 year old child was asked not to touch the first time we visited. I thought the owners (Susan and daughter Ashley) were just having a bad day, because you do not put toys out on display within a child's reach and not expect them to touch. I then took out of town guests into the store and Susan glared at them as they touched some wind up toys, she asked them to please put items back where they found them when one set a toy down right next to the place it was displayed, and this was all the while she was on the telephone yapping. Horrible customer service, no hello when we walked in, and no thank you when my friends purchased a package of tattoos for about $10, that we later seen at the dollar store for a buck. When ever we go to visit one of our favorite candle shops that is no where near child friendly, yet the owner is always kind to my children, I have to tell my children that the toy store is not really for kids. If you are going to cater your store to children, you should at least pretend to like them! read more
