Hiding out in a weird industrial kinda spot in Derwent Park is a casual Vietnamese cafe with--the most important part, IMHO--a selection of banh mi on the menu. This is the real deal stuff, not the banh mi inspired rolls you find in town.
Having said that, three of the four meat options are iffy, for me. The best one is the mix meat loaf. This could just because I desperately miss the Vietnamese bakery in Brisbane that never advertised their banh mi but you could always get a perfect one just by asking. They were also around half the price of Chikko's.
Sure, Chikko's is good. For Hobart, where we don't have other options. At least I know where to get my banh mi fix down here, when I really need one.
ETA: 24hrs after posting my review I've found out Chikko's opening a second location in Eastlands Shopping Centre, mostly focused on their street food offerings. Another excuse to head to Beastlands! Not yet the CBD but edging closer and closer. read more
