Chickys has so much promise but can never get right. The food is either so good or maybe when I do get chickys I'm so hungry that I don't mind when something is always missing. Either there's no sauce on the chicken patty, no peri peri sauce on the fries... something is always missing. If they got this part right, they'd be perfect. But someone is always dropping the ball. I don't want to blame the entire staff but I'd point to the person taking the orders. Unless the chefs are reading the orders too quickly. Took around an hour for an order that should normally take 15 to 20 min. Chickys can be EASILY missed if you're speeding down Jericho, BUT given that so many friends of mine love this spot.... I've gotten recommendations and tips! As a heads up, right next door to Chickys is a huge parking lot, with a diner that looks abandoned. You can park there and run in for your food, or even park and eat there. I'd advise to call ahead, as waiting can be long since they cook everything fresh. I'm talking upwards of 25mins. The food.... THE CHICKEN IS SO GOOD the sides aren't big, so you may need to order more than you think if you're sharing. Peri peri fries are AMAZING. The chicken tenders are literal CHICKEN BREASTS. I LOVE peri peri chicken so had to try this out. The quality of the flame grilled wings here are excellent! They are made to order so it takes a while but it's definitely worth the wait. Wings were cooked to perfection with just the right amount of heat (we got the mango habanero flavor). The chicken sandwich... was HUGE. Had to cut it in half and share. Went to chicky's twice now and both times I've been impressed with both the service and the food! Food: I got the Mac and Chicky's sandwich The first time I went and I liked it so much I got it the second time as well. The Chicky's n chips is also a favorite of mine and a lot of my friends, it's definitely a must try! I also really like the chicken skewers which I didn't expect to be as good as it was but I think the sauces that they put on top makes the chicken taste really good! Also the chicken was really juicy and the flavor of the sauce complement that. There was not a single item I tried that I did not like, all their food is amazing! Pull up, there is parking and a place to sit as well. I was with my sister, the ordering process was simple enough but we stood there trying to figure out what we wanted for like 5 minutes. I got chicken strips with Mac and cheese and idk what she got (judge someone else) it was late and I was literally starving. On the walk to the car I had to bite a tender. It was giving zero crisp and absolutely no crunch. It was like soggy breading like like omg like the chicken spots in the hood. The Mac and cheese was like Mac and cheese in a can. That's a big NO for me. Like not even a box a can. Anyway, after a pretty ordinary ordering experience we sat outside waiting for our food hoping to avoid the rain. And then the only and best thing happened. The guy actually brought the food outside directly to us as I was getting up to go check on it. That was super nice so I gave them two stars. Would I come gain. No. They had some fries combo with chicken and fries and sauces with different spice level. I don't eat spicy things so I won't miss out. The perfect blend of flavor and chicken. This place has the best customer service (10) and food (10 ). Chicky's and chips is very kids friendly and stays fresh up to an hour easily. The flame grilled chicken (without skewers) is tender and flavorful. This is our go to place for peri peri style chicken with American twist. The place is 100% halal. The owner is amazing and pays very close attention to orders. Their desserts are good. I have had fried oreos so far but really want to go back for falooda. The spicy chicken sandwich was great! Comes Chicky's hot which is probably really spicy because I got one step below that and my sinuses were running. Would probably get one more level down next time. Lots of food for the money. One thing I didn't like about the sandwich was the amount of batter used, it was way too much. But if you eat it hot and go in with the mindset of eating fried chicken you will love it. The wings were really good. Def worth it. It was a pretty nice Saturday night. My friend and I were looking for a new place to eat. I used my Yelp "special abilities" and found a Hot and New place to eat. That place happened to be Chicky's. Parking is pretty limited since only street parking is available. There is a lot right next to the restaurant that belongs to the diner next door though. There are signs posted that the lot is for diner patrons only and if you are not, you will be towed. Park there at your own risk like I did. Upon entering the restaurant there was a group of people dining. We walked up to the counter. The menus are well lit on three TV's above the cashier. We were greeted very friendly by the cashier and asked if we needed menus to order. We explained that we reviewed the menu online and had an idea what we wanted. We still took the menus just in case they differed from the ones online. (They were the same.) We then placed our order. While we were waiting for our orders we were browsing their Instagram and decided to add additional items to our order based on the tantalizing photos that we saw on Instagram. We ordered the quarter chicken (breast & wing), 18 grilled wings with various different sauces, the chicken and waffles (shown as Weekend only on the menu), grilled chicken sandwich, the spicy chicken sandwich, two orders of the chicken skewers, mashed potatoes, Peri Peri French fries, 2 small orders of mac and cheese, and finally the butter corn. The total wait was roughly 30 minutes. On to the food: The quarter chicken was flavorful down to the bone. The wings were cooked to perfection and sauced well, also flavorful down to the bone. The grilled chicken sandwich was delicious and tender. The Spicy Chicken sandwich was a mixed bag. The chicken was cooked perfectly on the inside, yet the breading was soggy and had a burnt or overdone flavor to it. The sauce on the Spicy chicken sandwich was delicious. I really was looking forward to this. The chicken and waffles were a joke. The chicken was really dry and came with Eggo waffles (Please see pictures). The chicken part of the chicken and waffles was basically inedible (see pics). The chicken skewers were lacking, we found them chewy and it lacked any love. The onions were charred beyond belief, nothing like the stock photos indicated. The sides were a complete joke. I don't know if it was because we ordered takeout. The fries came out flaccid and the container came out half full (see pics). The only redeeming factor on the fries were the Peri Peri seasoning, but even that couldn't bring it back to life. The mashed potatoes were like plaster with a sludge of some sauce dabbed on top; not drizzled or piped on like in their photos (see pics). The mashed potatoes were dry and needed to be revived- get the paddles- (CLEAR). The Mac and cheese was forgettable, how about using that Peri Peri seasoning on the Mac and Cheese? Last, but not least, was what was called Butter corn, which was more like rubber bullets. It was so overcooked and chewy. It could not be eaten and had to be thrown out. I would come back for the wings if I happen to be in Queens. If I'm not in the area, I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to come back though. Stick to the chicken, that happened to be the most enjoyable part of the meal. Revise your sides or just drop them off the menu altogether. If you are not going to do chicken and waffles well you might as well just drop it off the menu. It is not a weekend treat. Please be flexible when it comes to kind of meat that you can get with you chicken sandwich, I like white meat chicken but many people prefer dark instead. Saw this place trending amongst food critics in my circle and decided to give it a try for date night. Have to give credit where it's due, this place definitely fills the void for the lack of South African cuisine in our area! There are very few places in our area that have the ability to even respectably complete with the infamous Nando's and this place gives them a run for it's money. We opted for the Chicky's for Everyone. The flavors were great, my personal fave was the lemon and herb chicken. I see some of these other reviews ripping this place for their sides but I have to say, my experience was the exact opposite. As you can see from my picture, there was a very generous portion of fries and the mac and cheese tasted great! Their peri peri seasoning actually has a taste is unlike most places that use it as a garnish more than anything. My biggest takeaway from this place was the staff. Not only were they super nice, but very personable. They weren't just trying to stuff menu items down your throat. We talked about the grand opening, current challenges, as well as their future goals. Definitely a group of young entrepreneurs with their hearts in the right place; their community. Great spot for a late night saucy chicken craving. I get the wings over the bird since the wings are usually far juicier. Mango habanero is my sauce of choice and they drown your order with it. If you're a sauce guy like me, that's exactly how I want my wings; swimming in a pool of sauce. A big con is that half the time your wings come burnt. Burnt enough that the sauce isn't enough to cover the ashy taste and you'll have to peel off the skin. When I order, I always ask them for less charred chicken but it's still a 50/50 chance.
