Lady Matilda has been anxious for some real Mexican food or at least the kind of authenticity not available in the northeast. We are on a sojourn to a festivsal in Tucson, Arizona. Our week has been chaos. We had been traveling for 16 hours across the country by connecting flights that began long before dawn. The ChicjeNuevo sign called to Lady Matilda as we drove to the hotel. The place was not busy, but none of the eateries on that stretch were busy. It looked like fast food but Lady Matilda ordered a plate of chicken, refried beans, and rice that she took her time savoring. 16 hours of road stress and exhaustion melted away. This a good choice instead of other fast food. Grilled chicken, pinto beans, salad. A little pricey but worth it....usually. The crispy chicken tacos are good with the warm salsa. My only gripe is its inconsistent. I always order the plate with corn tortillas. Almost always its flour. The salad is sometimes just some wilted lettuce, onion and a wedge of tomato that has the core still intact. There might be dressing...might not. The pinto beans are fine. The chicken is usually pretty good. Often it seems like its been sitting out for awhile or in a warmer as the skin gets wrinkley . Other times its hot and fresh and moist. Overall its meh. Typical for most places these days. Its fine. Oh also the lime situation needs some serious help. read more

Happen to need a quick lunch and this place didn't disappoint. I opted for crispy chicken tacos and they were really tasty. Super fresh and crispy. The tacos were covered with sour cream, cheese, and pickled onion. I'd never been served tacos like that but I loved them. The salsa bar had lots of choices and appeared fresh. This restaurant has some great tasting menu items. I chose the three taco option while my partner selected the 1/4 chicken. My tacos toppings had a flavorful mesh of lettuce, grated parmesan and marinade that could double as a side salad. It was quite fresh. The 1/4 chicken was a large portion of food which included rice and beans. I always taste the beans these tasted quite authentic. I would say the value met price point. I'm torn writing this review. I love the food here. The one star is for the price I paid for a "large" bean and rice burrito, which I was told by the cashier was at least 8" long and "big" for $3.95. I ordered it, took it home and discovered I paid nearly $4 for a 4 inch burrito that was lightly filled. That's $1 and inch! When I called back the cashier told me that was correct and she didn't know why the burritos are made that way! She apologized and wished me a good night. She didn't apologize for being up front with me about the size. No need to say that I feel taken avanage of and do not plan on returning here. I love Chicken Nuevo. It is great & always affordable. I usually get a combo with only chicken and tortillas and the "rice pudding" aka arroz con leche. I've never been disappointed. On Wednesday's they have a "Family Special" where you get sides, tortillas and 1 1/2 grilled chicken for under $30. read more

Y'all need to watch your receipts if you'repaying with credit/debit, someone who works the counter here is adding tips to the total on the back side after they ring up your credit card so it's a larger amount that comes out of your account than what you think you're paying in the restaurant. When confronted, rather than refund back to card, they gave the money back in cash, and said no manager was available. Be careful people. read more

Great authentic Mexican food. They have really expanded their menu and to other locations ever since they opened over 10 years ago. It is a family owned and operated restaurant. The carne asada burrito is great and massive and unlike alot of other "so called Mexican" restaurants they DO NOT charge for guacamole. Because any Mexican knows that charging for guacamole at a Mexican joint is like McDonalds charging for ketchup it just shouldn't happen, but thats besides the point. I usually get the number 3 combo and the chicken is always crispy and perfectly cooked. They marinate they chicken for over a day so it has an amazing taste! If you are ever in Tucson you must go to any of the locations they have, you wont be disappointed read more

Food is okay...it's chicken you can GET IT EVERYWHERE. But the service is very poor and you will NEVER get everything you are paying for. I've quit going there even though I like the food but they have shortchanged me (and you?) for the last time. Sad to say as much as we usually like the food, we will not be going back. One thief ruined it for us. We made a purchase by debit card yesterday for $27.18 and today I saw that transaction and another one for $42.40. Luckily my husband was able to go down and verify that yes I had signed the first receipt but there was no signature on the 2nd one. He was given a refund but it still makes me so weary of ever going back. Everyone be aware of your transactions! Ordered these guys from an airport hotel through Uber eats and it arrived in less than 20 minutes total (it's like a 5 min drive). I got the chicken meal with a side of macaroni and green salad plus guac. Loooved the chicken: seasoned really well, way better than anything I could make at home. Seriously delicious. Macaroni salad was pretty solid, would definitely get again. The "green salad" side was super lame (iceberg with one tomato slice and ranch dressing), so I'd try beans next time. Also, I didn't love their flour tortillas, sort of a weird texture for me. Highlight of the meal: an amazing roasted jalapeno and fresh red salsa. Eating this with the chicken was dope!!! Ok the chicken is the best in Tucson!!!!! I love the dark meat. So that is why I always TRY to order the number 6 , 10 pice all dark meat with no skimpy wings. (FYI I feel like a fat ass that I know what the number 6 consist of) 7x out of 10 I am told that they don't have the number 6. This always confuses me. Usually I drive to Safeway and buy some Rotisserie chicken. Not as good,coast more money and its not all dark meat. I asked for the number 6 no sides 10.99 They told me they where out of the number 6 but I could get the Wednesday special 12 pice with 3 large sides 14.99 whicth consist of dark and white meat. I asked if they are out of dark meat they told me they only have dark meat for the Wednesday special. I didn't want the large sides so I just drive off and went to Safeway. The worst experience that I have ever had in any resturant. I have been there several times before and ordered the same item every time. When the chicken tacos came out completely over cooked the lady working who refused to give me her name but claimed to be the owner/manager refused to refund my money and told me that the crispy chicken tacos always come out like that. My five pervious orders from that exact location have never been a jerky like texture. She let me know that she could have them made again but that they would be the same!! I asked for my money back she refused and walked away from me. When she realized i was still there she turned to me and what do you still want!? I took a look around and there was no sign stating that there were no refunds. The speaker was broken at the drive thru so that started problems, then I asked for extra limes and she said "what for" then she added "oh well we charge for limes at the drive thru but you can get off and get them for free". The lunch rush starts and me and my homies go to this place. I get the nachos and I didn't want pico del gallo because onions are not on my list of eating. I over heard the lady yell at the cook about the pico del gallo but in Spanish. He put it on anyways. They serve me and didn't say anything about it I had to find out on my own. It not a big deal but it would be nice if the people's preferences where first and people cared about the food the customer wants. What if I was allergic to onions or jalapeños. The chicken quesadilla was just ok. But the rice.... very dry and bland and the refried beans..all I got was a container of brown liquid .. no beans and certainly NOT refried. I could have used a straw to drink the bean juice. No beans in the bean juice. I don't think I'll be returning. read more

Very happy I ordered food to go today. I ordered over 25 pieces with rice, beans, corn, tortillas, salsa and jalapenos for $50 dollars. That's a great price for the amount of good we got. Went Sunday to ChickenNuevo on Valencia. Poor service. Ordered their weekend special...they ran out of chicken....Finally, we sat down with 1 1/2 chicken to eat......Then the manager (Manuel) started to turn off the lights on us...we were shocked.....If they had told us that we need to do carry-out because they were closing, we would have done this.....however, they said nothing to us.....they just started turning off lights on us.
