Love this place ! Visited Dublin from the USA…read more NEVER thought I'd find BBQ like this in Ireland ! Excellent ! Great sauces too ! The Ribs were perfect The sides were great ! Next time I travel to Dublin I'm stopping here :)

I was greatly surprised to find an authentic BBQ joint in Dublin, but here you have it. Don't miss…read morethis place if you are craving smoky meats, creamy Mac 'n Cheese, and sweet & savory sauces. We purchased the platter which included Ribs, Brisket, Pulled Pork and Wings. Came with two sides, so I had to try the Mac n' Cheese and Baked Beans and it also included fresh dinner rolls. Ribs - smokey and tender. I would love to go back during the lunch rush when they come out fresh, but since we were there around 20:00, they had been sitting for a while. But even though they had been sitting, they were still amazing. They were glazed perfectly, and the tender, juicy meat was amazing. Some would say "fall of the bone" are the best, but that just means they are overcooked. These ribs had just the right amount of tenderness. So amazing. Brisket - also amazing. Had a perfect smoke ring, and was tender and juicy. The slices had the perfect pull, and were so deliscious. Pulled Pork - tender, juicy and succulent. Not mushy as sometimes can happen if it sits too long. This pork was simply amazing. Smokey, moist and perfect. I added some of the BBQ sauce, and it was simply deliscious. Chicken wings - cooked to perfection. Also asked for them to be dry so that we could try the different sauces. So tender and juicy. Mac n' Cheese - sometimes places will have a big pan and will just scoop it out onto the plate. Not here at Smonin' Bones. They make it fressh and put it into a dish, add some extra cheese on top and then broil it. So yummy. I could have eaten a lot more of it. Baked Beans - probably my least favorite of the night. The beans were a little under-done, so they had a little bit of a crunch. But the flavor was good. Keep working on that. Overall a wonderful, delightful surprise.

Stopped in for lunch and we're seated promptly at a table for two. Need to mention that seating is…read moreeither high top or booth and stool seating. Stools are ok but not super comfortable. Menu has a good selection of Irish dishes from seafood chowder up to lamb stew and pies. We ordered the potato soup, seafood chowder, 'banjo' burger with onion rings. The soups arrived first and the seafood chowder was loaded with huge pieces of fish, potatoes (not many) with a creamy rich base. Flavor was incredible and in itself a full meal. Served in a large crock style bowl. The potato soup was minus any whole potatoes. It was a rich creamy base with plenty of flavor and very hearty. The burger was really a double cheeseburger with plenty of cheese, grilled onions, what appeared to be a mayonnaise based sauce on a soft hamburger roll. Really tall enough that it was tough getting your mouth around it. Very well seasoned burgers and the onions were a nice touch. The onion rings were huge and had a very light batter on them. They served in a metal bowl to keep them hot. For dessert the apple crumble was ordered which was served in a large dish with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. This could have been warmer but still was good.. The 5 star rating is for the chowder as it outshone the rest of the meal although the burger was definitely a close second. Definitely will return to try other dishes when we come back to the city.

Quick review for a quick lunch stop. We shared an Irish Lamb Stew: meat and vegetables in gravy…read morewith a layer of mash(ed potatoes) on top. The meat and veggies were plentiful, the portion generous, and it was tasty enough but maybe on the bland side? It was served with a side of braised red cabbage which we really liked: sweet but not sour like pickled cabbage. And house-made brown stout bread, also very good. The wife had a Guinness and I, thinking it too cliché to order Guinness as a tourist in Ireland, tried a different stout whose name I've forgotten from the ample selection. But comparing the two, so much better! The menu offers a wide variety of traditional Irish dishes, more than most of the similar pubs in the area. As well as the other expected pub type food: sandwiches, burgers, etc. As for desserts, if we were hungrier, the wife might have ordered the Irish Whiskey Bread & Butter Pudding. The hubby would probably get his dessert later, as the selection was limited and neither that nor the Apple Crumble appealed. Sitting at the bar we had a more personalized experience than were we at a table. The bartender offered to take a photo of me behind the bar which I of course accepted. We made the right choice in coming here.

When looking for a traditional restaurant in Dublin, our hotel recommended Bull and Castle. The…read morerestaurant is located within a quieter neighborhood in the city while still walkable to the sights. Far from the crowds of Temple Bar, the restaurant was understated and peaceful. The meal was divine. The restaurant appeared to be a cross between a steakhouse and an Irish pub overing a diverse menu. The restaurant was dark and homey. The staff was attentive and friendly. I'd recommend visiting Bull and Castle during your next trip to Dublin.

Such a change from the last experience a year ago…read more We had 8:30 PM reservations. Arrived around 8:10 and were told to wait at the bar. No problem, it's NYE, we can wait for out booked time. Less than 5 minutes later we were lead to a table, not even time to order a drink! We shared everything. Ordered cocktails to begin with. They were ok, two different old fashioned drinks. We tried to order bone marrow, scallops, tuna tataki and a Caesar salad as starters. They were already out of the bone marrow and scallops. It's a holiday, you know there are reservations... what?! Poor management and planning!! They recommended the lamb kidneys... never had them before, super gross. I'll never do that again. It smelled like urine! We ordered the burger and 14 oz sirloin to share, medium rare on the steak. Polenta fries, and mashed potatoes. The polenta fries were outstanding! The burger was delicious! Smokey flavor, it was great. It came with huge steak fries, I prefer shoestring. The steak was not tender. Had a better steak sandwich at the Morrison for lunch. All in all, I will not be going back nor recommending this place. The wine I ordered never arrived, our water was never refilled. In fact, after the food arrived, we never saw anyone again!! When the check came with an obligatory 12.5% tip I missed it and paid. Once I noticed, I flipped out!! This was the worst service ever!! I double check tipping culture in Ireland before I complain. 10% is good for good service and bad service is ok to leave zero tip. So I asked for it back. They gave me credit for the tip but not the tax on tip. Unimpressed. Won't go again.
