Restaurant use to be so good, but very disappointing recently. Fish sandwich about 1/3 of previous size and on $1 pk bun and no tomato. I tried breakfast today and asked for extra crispy hash browns and barely had any color and not one bit crispy. I ordered one egg and served two so they could charge me more. I will never go back, this is not the Chicken King it use to be. Very sad, but too many other establishments with much better food. read more

My wife and I at there 3 times during a recent stay in Inverness. The first night we had their Chicken. Very good, tender, moist and very flavorful coating. Not greasy either. Sides were very good. I had the Collards and they were done as collards should, with some sort of Pork in the mix. We took a piece of the key lime pie back to our Hotel and while it didn't hold up in the box very well. It tasted great. The Other two times were for breakfast, and it was good and cheap. One morning I had an Egg, Home fries, a strip of Bacon, and a biscuit for $2.09, surprisingly enough food for that days breakfast. It's a local joint, not at all fancy, but food is good and reasonable. I likely would not have tried it, if not for YELP, but happy to have found it. It's where the locals eat. Would rate it higher, but the coffee, wasn't to our liking. It might be the water. read more

I had breakfast here early in the am after driving down from upstate NY. They were open and both of our plates were good. The help was not very interactive or the most friendly bit it was early and we were not the regulars. If I'm every in the area again I'd like to try the chicken. read more

We ate here once for lunch, and once for breakfast. For lunch, I had the two-piece white chicken, and my wife had a chicken salad sandwich. The chicken was pretty good, crunchy and juicy but not greasy, but I'd have liked some more spice. Not sure if he's the King, maybe more like a lord. The breakfast was outstanding, though. I got a monstrous country fried steak, eggs, and home fries. Our entire group was very satisfied with their breakfast selections, and the price was surprisingly low. But the manner in which they treat their customers is awful I don't know why people keep going back if it's not for just the food. Chicken King is our closest restaurant less than a mile away. Breakfast is very good but their other dishes like "Wing Dings", fried chicken (get the uppers) and daily specials can be hit or miss. It's a shame because 9 or 10 years ago this restaurant had the BEST fried chicken in the County. Always busy and a real bargain for lunch or dinner. A fire and several ownership changes almost killed it. The current owners are trying to bring it back so I'd say give it a try! read more

Anything not deep fried within the amount of time you are sitting there has the off possibility of making you sick. I have experienced this from thier chicken breast, I was violently ill. I will give them credit for breakfast and fried grouper. Always had good breakfast there. Watch out for the chicken. read more

Amazingly, except for the chicken, everything else was deliciously prepared and fresh. I had green beans, fried okra, onion rings, and collard greens. All made there from scratch, according to the waitress. Nothing tasted greasy. The chicken, is another matter. The legs and thigh were were dry, tasteless and smelled of oil starting to go rancid. I had gone there after many people had gushed their love for the chicken (granted they were mostly from up north and perhaps don't know true southern cooking) but after so many recommendations I went to try it myself. The wait staff was great and friendly and the patrons appeared to be regulars. So maybe this was an off day for the chicken (the King was not minding the kingdom). Because it was such a pleasant experience, otherwise, I will return in a month or so and see if the chicken is truly as people claimed. Stay tuned for my next taste adventure here. read more

I am new to the area and was in a big hurry and stopped by Chicken King today for the first time. I am so glad I did! I ordered a 2-piece meal to go (chicken was hot, moist, and tender, the turnip greens tasted like my mamaw's) The staff were extremely helpful and courteous, the service was quick, and the food was fantastic! I was told that it is now Citrus Chicken King and that they have recently changed their hours so that they are now open most evenings. Great experience, I'll be a regular customer! read more

Love fried chicken so with the name we had to try it. I even called ahead to make certain they cooked their fried chicken to order. Asked the waitress if they cooked the fried chicken to order and we were assured they do. This chicken was a minimum of 30 minutes out of fryer probably more like an hour...very dry and certainly not hot. The owner who was also the cashier said it was cooked to order and when I questioned her she admitted that it may have been 15 minutes old...yeah right....no way. Other reviews say the chicken is great so I assume if you can get it cooked to order it might be okay but even if they tell you it will be cooked to order you can't be certain that if will. read more

If you require the use of a Service Animal...don't bother going to Chicken King. They are not welcome. The weekend before, my husband and I wanted to try this place. The chicken was great, but the following weekend when we wanted to dine in, the owner stepped in my way and standing so close I could feel his breath on my face, I was first told my SA was too big. Then he said they require the SA to lay under the tables and he would not fit. I was then told some of his patrons are allergic.. I have asthma so I understand that. Buddy, (my SA) is a poodle. 'Nuff said. He then asked why do I need a Service Animal? (I did not have to answer but, for the record, I have Polio, fibromyalgia and am hypoglycemic. My husband, a Veteran, has Alzheimer's and also requires Buddy as a Stability SA.) I offered to provide health records and his certification. He responded by saying these certifications were all nonsense and no one really needs a dog to help them. This man could have had a really great review and faithful customers in my husband and I. We will never set foot in there again. read more
