It just feels like home in here-- Texas without all the pretentiousness of fancier places. I was surprised to see the parking lot and the restaurant only half full on Mother's Day, but looking back, I should have known then that something wasn't quite right. Everything went well until I got my plate. I ordered the two meat brisket and sausage, potato salad, and fried okra. The portion was huge-- enough for three people -- but I couldn't enjoy it. The brisket should have been the star, but it tasted like was baked too long in an oven an oven a day or two ago. There was no smoke flavor, and the meat just fell apart. I could have eaten it with a spoon. It was tender, sure, but anybody can do that if you cook it/rest it long enough. The flavor just wasn't there. I'm not sure whether they make their sausage or get it from somewhere outside, but it seemed to be quality stuff before they cooked it. It was coarse ground like I like it with good seasoning. But where was the smoke? The sausage honestly looked and tasted like it was sliced and boiled. I was shocked. The potato salad tasted good, but the texture was all wrong. Everything was chopped up small like it was done in the food processor and there was no love in it. Fried okra is hard to get wrong, but there was nothing particularly right about it either. I was so suspicious about the lack of flavor in my meat that I drove around the back parking lot when we left. There were several racks of neatly stacked firewood, but it was all filled up to the top. Either it had just been delivered, or it's not getting used. I suspect the latter. This is Texas. If you're gonna keep the doors open at a barbecue joint, you have to do better. I love coming to your restaurant, and I hope you get things figured out.

I could taste the flavors of the Tajin, lime, and cotija cheese but didn't get a mayo flavor which is pretty standard if you are eating Mexican Street Corn. The veggie sticks of celery and carrots were perfectly ice cold and crisp! The fries had no seasoning and I know they have a proprietary blend they use and it has a distinct flavor. Great service - the young man at the window was very attentive and the gentleman in the back obviously knows what he's doing back there. The fries were seasoned and delicious. The young man at the window noted that they rotate the types of fries they serve. Sometimes crinkle-cut, sometimes wedges, etc. Only one block off the highway. Will definitely be back next time we are passing through.
