The restaurant was packed, and the staff was moving nonstop--but what really stood out was how smoothly everything was handled despite how busy it was. The food? Easily a 10/10. The chicken had that perfect balance--crispy and slightly spicy on the outside, yet unbelievably juicy and tender on the inside. You can tell real care goes into it. The greens were cooked just right with a subtle hint of spice that gave them great flavor, and the slaw had a light sweetness that complemented everything perfectly. Service was just as impressive. My server, Tashena, was attentive, friendly, and kept everything flowing without missing a beat, even in the rush. You could tell she genuinely cared about the experience. I also have to shout out the manager, Whitney. She was incredibly uplifting, constantly cheering on her team and keeping the energy positive and motivated. That kind of leadership really shows in the overall experience. Between the food, the service, and the atmosphere, I can confidently say this is a 1000/10 recommend. I'll definitely be back

Ohhhhh snap. This place absolutely slaps!!…read more If you are looking for southern Creole soul food that actually understands the assignment and did the homework, this is the place. No notes. Standing ovation. First things first, do not be a chicken. Yes, it is outside the tourist bubble. Yes, you might clutch your pearls for a second on the drive. Relax. We felt completely safe, and it is a short ride from the French Quarter. The only thing in danger here is your belt notch! The atmosphere is exactly what a soul food kitchen should be. Cafeteria line moving with purpose. Staff smiling like they know something you do not yet know. Portions so generous they feel personal. And just enough grease permanently bonded to the surfaces to let you know the food is about to be correct. Now the food. Lord help me. This is not food you politely eat. This is food with soul. The kind of soul that makes you want to slap your mamma, then immediately apologize and say damnit three times while chewing. Every bite tastes like somebody's auntie took offense to the idea of under seasoning. Just look at the plates. It was heaven served in a clamshell. No garnish. No nonsense. Just pure comfort. If you grew up in the South, this will feel like home. If you are from the North and curious what southern comfort food actually tastes like, practice your "Hey, Yall" in the mirror and commit fully for lunch. One warning. They sell food until it is gone. When it is gone, it is gone! So if you want that heavy mac and cheese energy, you better show up early and hungry. Final takeaway. We went in for lunch. I left happy, full, and slightly greasy, with the overwhelming urge to take a nap and call someone I love. She didn't answer so I regulated my emotions with a piece of cake from the girl in the corner - you'll see when you arrive. So don't skip dessert!!

Sigh. Disclaimer: the food just isn't the same anymore…read more My parents live on the Westbank, so whenever I come home to visit and stay more than a few days, I always make a stop here, specifically for their stewed okra on Tuesdays. I hadn't eaten here in over a year, but two years ago that okra SMACKED. It was so good I had to stop myself from eating the entire container in one sitting. This time, though, it tasted completely different. Honestly, I mostly picked over it. It did have a decent amount of seasoning meat in it, which I appreciated, but the flavor was just off. My mother agreed. I also ordered the stuffed catfish, and unfortunately the catfish tasted almost entirely like blackened seasoning and nothing else. It used to have much more flavor and balance than that. The yams were fine, and the seafood dressing tasted the same as usual, but I was really disappointed because the okra was always the star of the show for me. Since that's no longer hitting the same, I honestly won't be back. And mind you, this was after standing in line for ~90 minutes. I will say the workers still have that Southern hospitality, and the customer service itself was pleasant. But while standing in line and watching the workflow, it was easy to think of multiple ways the business could improve efficiency. I'm honestly surprised those issues haven't been addressed yet. If you want to go for the experience, then sure, go for it. But don't expect to be blown away. For me, the wait time, prices, and food quality just didn't live up to the hype anymore.

I'm hoping we just got an off day or chef, but based on our experience we won't be retuning…read more The fries were yummy and we appreciated the quick service and generous portions My partner got the smothered fries (medium) and I got a slider and tender combo (mild) I was disappointed to find my chicken absolutely smothered in straight paprika. The dish we ordered medium was much less spicy than the mild. And even if they got the spice levels mixed up, the amount of paprika was entirely unpleasant. If I wanted to eat a spoon of paprika, I would have just gone to rouses. :( really wanted to like this place

They have like five or six heat options, and I'm someone who loves spicy chicken, so I asked for extra hot. The cashier told me I had to sign a waiver for the extra hot, and I was like, okay hold on... maybe I don't want that. lol I ordered the three chicken tenders and fries combo, and the cashier told me I could choose a different heat level for each tender, which was very cool and convenient, so I got two medium and one hot. I think that was the right choice because hot is pretty hot--its labeled as cayenne heat level--so if you like spice, that level is enough. One thing I really didn't like was that the chicken was so dusty. The tenders are also fried soft, and I personally don't like chicken tenders that are fried soft like Raising Cane's--i know, unpopular opinion-- I like the skin to be a little crunchy. Well, it's not exactly as soft as Cane's, but it's also not as crispy as Bojangles (IYKYK). I think the chicken had some heat its own, but the extra heat is added after it's fried with this dry seasoning they toss it in or sprinkle on after it's fried. I feel like the heat should be in the chicken itself and not just added on top......but anyway, I'll probably be back again. The cashier was a very sweet young lady. Oh, and they have plenty of indoor seating and it didn't smell too much like fried food in there. And the bathroom was pretty decently clean when I came at like 11 something pm.
