Chicago scanning did such a good job on and old VHS and a Betamax tape that I thought might be too old to have any data. Jason and Tyler brought a favorite uncle Vespasiano Alfredo "Vess" back to life doing funny commercials for a local cable station and playing in his band. He had a great voice like John Lennon. The entire family was buzzing about where did you find this and oh wow it's so good to see him in action again. Also, the other tape had our band in 1986 at the peak of our powers. Huge thank you to Chicago Scanning for digitizing my family videos! It's been such a joy to be able to watch my childhood home movies again. Chicago Scanning made the process so easy - I dropped VHS tapes off with them and a few weeks later I had an invoice in my email. Once I paid the invoice online, they sent me a Dropbox link with my videos within a day. I swung by their location a week later to pick up my VHS tapes. They provided very detailed descriptions of some quality issues I might see on some of the videos due to the format they were originally filmed it, and they took extra steps to try and improve/preserve the quality as much as possible. Dave and the team at Chicago Scanning did a fantastic job digitizing some PAL tapes I had (VHS tapes from Europe that I found out can't be played in American VCRs). The quality was fantastic. I was initially going to use one of the few online services that exist (like legacy box), but read multiple negative reviews about them losing tapes and in some cases not even digitizing them before losing them. I got cold feet, but so glad I ended up finding a team doing this locally in Chicago. They did an incredible job with a huge collection of poor quality family photos and negatives. One of the types of negatives I had is particularly laborious to digitize and they gave me a heads up even before they sent over my quote to explain and provide context and it was much appreciated. Brought in some photos I wanted scanned and printed as 3.5 X 5. I wrote how many copies I wanted, only 2 out of the 8 i wanted were copied and printed. I understand if there's confusion, but I didn't get a phone call to try and clear things up. I ended up not being able to get all my photos in time. I was charged $20 for one photo that was copied incorrectly, one photo that was copied correctly, and for them to crop my photo to 3.5X5 so I could take the digital file to Walgreens which I could have done myself. I had a one star experience but rate Chicago Scanning three stars because I know how damaging a low review can be to a small business. I would recommend reading the other reviews and being very specific with your order. read more

I got a couple of vhs-c taped converted here, it's so nice that folks still care for outmoded formats. So much history lives on tape and may be lost forever as the physical objects degrade. It's magical when an image can move from the viewfinder on your camera onto your computer screen, it's the waiting that turns the transformation of formats into a magic trick. Great place to digitize everything. As a retired TV producer, I have dozens of videos in multiple formats from documentaries I produced. I also have hundreds and hundreds of slides which my parents took going back to the 50s. David and Tyler have been terrific digitizing all of my material. Because some of it was heavy and bulky, they even picked it up at my apartment and delivered it after completion. It is a great feeling to know that things from your life have been preserved, and can be shared with family and friends. I still have one more cabinet of smaller format videos from my daughter's childhood in the 80s. I look forward to digitizing them and sharing the images with HER little boy. I had about 6,000 photos, some videos and 250+ negatives that I needed digitized. The photos were loose, in albums and in scrapbooks. I contacted Chicago Scanning and they offered a very reasonable quote (much lower than some of the other places I'd contacted) and we set up a time to drop off the photos. The reason I picked them was because I was able to hand my photos to the actual people who were going to do the work (versus mailing them somewhere) and they were able to name the files the way I requested. Once I got the photos back, the quality of the scans was excellent and everything was categorized and labeled as I'd requested. I did run into an issue with the order of the photos they put back in the physical albums but when I brought it to their attention they were very quick to offer a remedy and an apology. All in all, I was extremely happy with the service, the people and the quality of the work. I will definitely use them again and strongly recommend them. read more

I have used Chicago Scanning twice. Both times, excellent service and quality. Once, pre-covid for a quick turnaround project to scan family photos that I used for a slideshow. The second project was more recently and was more complex. I felt safe during curbside drop-off and pick-up, and Dave was super professional and organized. My items were photos, negatives, documents, notebooks, and a few odd-sized pages. I was a little nervous to hand them over because they were sentimental items and irreplaceable! But I needn't have worried because Chicago Scanning took great care to keep everything safe during the process and communicated well about the timelines and process. As a customer of Chicago Scanning, I have had the pleasure of watching Jason take my moms old Home Videos (on multiple formats), converting them to digital, and housing them conveniently on an Apple TV for my mom (non-technical) to plug-and-play. I've also witnessed the work he did for my Great Uncle, who had videos on old 8mm reels, and converting those to digital. Additionally, he converted probably 4-5 decades of footage for him. These are priceless moments that generations of my family can enjoy that would have been lost to history if not for Jason. I would give Chicago Scanning 1,000 stars if it were possible! My parents celebrated their 50th anniversary and as a gift, I wanted to convert all of their slides and 8mm film to digital. I contacted Chicago Scanning and we set an appointment. I brought them THOUSANDS of slides and reel after reel of 8mm film. Great service and great prices!. They digitized 15 tapes and flash drives that were pretty old and we couldn't be happier. Although they told me it would take two weeks to complete they were able to get everything back to me within a week. I had about 700 old slides from my in-laws that I wanted digitized. I contacted a few places in the Chicago area and most were way too expensive (close to $2.00 a slide - YIKES!). Then I found Chicago Scanning. They were much more reasonably priced and super helpful and friendly. Not being familiar with the area around the place, I asked for advice on parking. Dave was helpful with this info, too. These guys had all my slides scanned and ready to go in less than a week. The only negative is that the digital copies have lots of dust specks on them. I thought part of the process of scanning was also to blow the dust off them. Perhaps that was a service of the other more expensive places? At any rate, overall very pleased with the service, quick turn around and the price. read more

I had an amazing experience with Chicago Scanning. Of course, I waited until the very last minute to do my Christmas gifts, one of them being a photo album. I needed to drop off 300 pictures for them to scan and print copies of. I went to Walgreens and i was there for 2 hours at the kiosk scanning pictures, i got 70 done. Needless to say i couldn't spend 3 days straight at Walgreens so i needed to look for other options. Chicago scabbing was informative and they were the most affordable out of the 15 places I called at only 49 cents a photo. I dropped them off and they were ready in just a few hours and even put on a Dropbox for me to view digitally. Extremely professional and fast. I highly recommend this company. Absolutely incredible place - deserves 1,000,000 stars. I took a huge bin full of 48 VHS tapes that have been in a closet with a "to be converted" sign for decades. My mom has begged us to get them converted for years but I was hesitant to send them through the mail and picked Chicago Scanning because they were so nice over the phone and you drop off your media straight to their place on Cortland. I was hoping to give this as a holiday gift to my mom but I didn't give them much time to finish it. But, like little magical elves, they finished all 48 tapes in plenty of time for Christmas and beautifully converted and even restored some of our family memories. My mom cried tears of happiness when she opened the box with a flash drive full of decades of precious family memories. We watched them all day on Christmas and she is overjoyed. I will be using them for other projects and have referred all of my friends to them. They are professional and kind and all around wonderfully awesome people. Excellent work cleaning and scanning nearly 1,000 family slides, dating from 1959 through 1998. There was lots of dust on these slides, and a few had even been chewed by our dogs through the years... but the images look great, and they were organized into folders just as requested.
