I asked what they are confirming and the owner said it was the address and what service I needed. I had a little bit of sticker shock from the first quote so decided this would be worth getting multiple quotes on. And Home Build was one of them due to their stellar Yelp reviews. I called them and they were able to send Oscar out right away. They told me to save 60 -90 min for the consultation, which seemed like a lot of time considering every other company just needed 5-10 min of my time. However, i was willing to invest the time for the right doors and right price. Oscar and i met for over an hour. He was super friendly and knowledgeable about all my door options. He brought along a presentation (via his ipad), as well as materials so we got it all done within that hour. The other companies took a lot less, but resulted in a few trips to my house and lots of back and forth via email. I honestly probably prefer the latter since less time all at once. In the end I went with a different company due to price, but thought this company offered a good product at competitive pricing so would be worth looking into them.

He said that this type of job usually take about 5 minutes, but this one took 30 minutes. I was a little worried that there was an issue with the door that was making it difficult to install, but it was working when he left. 3-4 days later, my fiance was closing the door after coming in from the patio and the door came right off the tracks. We tried to figure out how to get it back on ourselves - we read articles, watched youtube videos, but we couldn't get it and were worried about breaking the door. I reached out to Joe several times by email and text asking him to come by and take a look. He responded to a few of my messages but ignored most of them. After 4 days of reaching out I gave up. I'm bummed because I was excited to support a local business, but now I'm out $450.

In this case I was a client requesting replacement of a few old window units in my house. I don't think I'm a bad client but I have bad experience with home remodeling projects so I was curious about this one and a little edgy... just in case. From the beginning I was dealing with Ed, the owner of EDMAR Contractors, very pleasant and knowledgeable person. If you ever had some masonry work done on your property you might know him as well, he's been in construction business since the 80's. Anyways, he came over and checked all the windows that need to be replaced, pointed out a couple major issues with bricks underneath my bay window, and recommended a few window manufacturers. One of them was a company I did some research on before so I decided to pick their product. I got his quote a couple of days later and despite the fact it was slightly higher than an estimate from another contractor, I signed the contract. I took about two weeks to get my windows and installation itself was on a difficult side because of those brick issues that needed to be corrected. I was actually glad that he was able to do everything at once and I didn't have to look for a mason. When the manufacturer's truck delivered the windows one them was cracked but they're local so it was replaced next morning. The crew was very helpful and careful with the flowers my wife was so afraid of losing during the installation. After 2 days of work the windows were all in, bricks repaired, and my dogs happy to enjoy their backyard sanctuary. I just hope that all my clients are as pleased with me as I am with Ed.

Not only do the new windows look sleek and modern, but the entire process was top-notch from start to finish. What really stood out to us was their honesty. While other companies tried to sell us on full-frame replacements, SHS actually advised us to go with insert replacements. They pointed out that our house has high-density older wood framing that was worth preserving. Following their advice preserved the character and strength of our home while saving us a significant amount of money. Their communication was excellent throughout the project, and the installation crew was fantastic: punctual, respectful, and meticulous about keeping the worksite clean. On top of that, their guarantee is rock-solid. I feel completely confident that this was a lifelong investment and that they will stand by their work if anything ever comes up down the road. This is a really reputable place. I have an old Chicago house that's probably about 110 years old…read more I used Chicago Window & Door Solutions to replace wood windows from the 1960s that had stopped working and several vinyl windows (8 years old) that had started to fall apart. I was really mad about the vinyl windows because the former owner had installed them pretty new, but they literally were about to fall out of the wall. We had to lock them to keep them in place. The previous owner had the original windows replaced, but the installer of the vinyl windows did not insulate around the frame and cold air kept leaking in. The wood windows would rattle on a windy day. I found out about Chicago Window & Door Solutions through a recommendation from another contractor who was repairing my original wood windows - he said he wouldn't work with anyone else - so that tells you something! Sue & Greg came out to meet with us, took measurements and talked about our options. They install Marvin windows. Know that they aren't the cheapest option. For that you can go anywhere, but know in about 8 years, you're going to be replacing them. But I found that they listened to what we were looking for - which for me was energy efficiency as a top priority. I liked that there was the chance to get a wooden interior on the windows. It allowed us to match the stain on sill and border opening - so now these windows look like they belong and do not look like replacements. We opted to stain the windows ourselves and they gave suggestions of how to do it. More importantly, they came out twice (next day!) when we had questions/concerns. Justin came to do the install and he removed and installed six windows and fixed a sill in a day and a half - plus he cleaned up after himself! If you've ever had workmen come into your house, you know what a mess they can leave. I am really happy with the new windows. They are beautiful, they are much more energy efficient than what I had and really block out the noise. I live on a two-way street in Chicago & they have made the house much quieter than the windows I had before.

They came in a few weeks later and two of their team members came out to install them in the morning. Everything was done quickly and professionally with care. After the install, I had a question about one of the windows since it looked like there was a small crack at the top corner and they sent someone out to look at it right away. I definitley recommend using Semko as they provided a very reliable service and also beat out many other window companies with their competitive pricing.
