Well, I say meet her, a lot of the time I just sat and checked out the hot girls who worked there. As a teenager this was a revelation when all you were used to seeing when you got your hair cut was men who you had a sense felt they had maybe taken the wrong turn in life. Anyway, I digress. This is one of Bangor's best established and well thought of hairdressers with a real reputation for excellent service and quality work. The only problem is that you have to pay for this and this was the reason my sister stopped going here. But when she did she says she never got a bad haircut. In Bangor you really can't go wrong with Jacqui Bothwell Hair in Church Street, its the best hair cut at the best price. Unbeatable.

I have been coming here now on and off over a year or so. The main and only reason has been, to use there fantastic sunbeds. There are 2 lie down and 2 stand up ones available, so usually no wait. I had however decided to treat myself to some nails so I pre booked the appointment last week to ensure I got a time that suits. I always found the girls a little bit Stand offish previously but after today it was a completely different story. Once I got chatting to them, they where fantastic and I really enjoyed the chat. I felt very at home and relaxed. I opted for Acrylic extentions and asked for them not to be too long as it's been a while since last having them. I am really happy with the finished result and to be honest and am quite picky when it comes to my nails. Interested now to see how they last so will update on that in a couple of weeks! Good points- The salon feels spacious and open with beautiful decor. Lots of choices of nail colours on offer. Great girls and brilliant craic. They also have a good range of beauty and skin care treatments on offer at fairly reasonable prices. Bad points-One of my pet hates about any personal service though is not being introduced! I could not tell you the name of the girl that did my nails because she didn't tell me her name. Usually with most beauty salons a tea/coffee is usually offered which wasn't. There is a flight of stairs into the salon so it would not suit someone who is wheelchair bound or struggles with stairs. I have however already booked my next appointment as I was so happy with my nails and the overall experience.

My must have treatments at Urban are the back tension massage (carrying shopping bags always gives me a tense back, I wish!) and the eyelash tint. I'm happy to say that my therapist insisted on carrying out a patch test 24 hours before my first eyelash tint and also pleased to say that I didn't develop any boils or weeping sores as a result! I was amazed at the effect an eyelash tint has - no Dior Show for me when I've had this done! The back tension massage is an occasional treat to myself and this bad boy can relax even my bunched up, stressed out upper back. Blissfully pummelling and kneading just the right side of pain are the main features of this half hour and I just love it. At £28 I think it's excellent value for money and I always feel like new woman when I've had this treatment. Well, a less old one anyway.

Never told me her name, at the end she came around a bit and talked about my hair. Overall I liked the place, was very clean and all the other customers were being talked to, walked in with no appointment and was seen straight away so top marks for that. My advice is - your hair is too important to put in the hands of someone who doesnt seem to have much interest, and looked as if she would rather be somewhere - anywhere else than cutting my barnet. I had grown my hair to shoulder length and brought a really clear photograph of what I wanted, which, really, was just "cutting into" the hair, rather than taking anything off the length. I made it quite clear I didnt want it short. Around ten minutes later the cut was done.(!!)............and unfortunately for me (going out somewhere special that night), not only was it up to the nape of my neck, but my 10 year old son could have given me the same effect by putting a bowl on it and cutting round it. If you have ever seen that show "10 years younger"......well this salon made me look "10 years older" - the style would have better suited Nora Batty than a fashionable thirty year old. I must say that some of the other haircuts I saw leaving didnt look half bad, mine was cut by someone called Chantelle, so maybe I was just unlucky. But you have been warned!

So whilst at the Clinique counter getting a free skin consultation I was directed over here by Kerry who had amazing brows! I got an appointment within 30mins which was great as they seemed to be flat out. They offer eyebrow threading and waxing, lip threading and waxing, eyelash tinting and eyebrow tinting. The prices are a little steep at £24 for the eyebrow thread but I persevered with the decision to go for it. Now, this is where it gets interesting! They use a piece of thread to literally pull out the hairs and shape your brows! It is mildly uncomfortable but I could feel hairs being removed that I didn't even know were there! I was in awe of it all! And the result? Amazing! My brows looked fantastic and they weren't bright red for the rest of the day either as I know they would be after waxing! Seriously, if you haven't tried eyebrow threading, get down here, its fab. And I don't have to go back for 4 weeks!!!!

It's the kind of friendly salon where you usually end up joining in the conversations of the therapist and customer sitting next to you which is great and so not intimidating; the whole experience is friendly and relaxed which someone makes the waxing hurt less! I always get my nails done here and one of the things I love is that the girls are such experts that you can have your overlays done in about 45 minutes which is great as I tend to spend most of my days chauffeuring small children around Belfast to school, rugby, swimming, tennis, etc etc etc. Any 'me' time has to be strictly limited even for yummy mummies! One hour is usually plenty for my nails and an eyebrow wax and I always leave feeling like a new woman. Having my nails done just makes me feel more groomed and taming the monobrow is always going to help!
