Clare was so charming, helpful and pleasant, and very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about her craft, giving me all sorts of hints and tips about the best sort of foundation to get, how to use it correctly, and lots of other trade secrets. Her salon is stylish, modern and nicely situated in the lovely town of Hillsborough, but her work takes her far and wide of Belfast and beyond, making brides beautiful and women divine. Her salon not only offers hair and nail treatments and makeup, but also things like facials, tanning and even reflexology. What a bargain for a little bit of glamour and the felling that I am well groomed, even if it only lasts for three days. I booked in for my file and polish for that Friday and was more than happy with what I got for my pennies. My nails were indeed filed and polished - no little extras like cuticle trimming but come on, it is only £6. There was a good selection of colours and the polish was well applied. I had worried about feeling like a cheap skate for only having such a cheap treatment but I was looked after as well as someone who was dropping a lot more money might expect. I will definitely go back to All About You for a bargainous file and polish and may try another treatment too next time. Oh, now I see what they've done there..........

About Face has the privilege over many of the salons due to the length of time they have been around for. I can remember them being here for the last 10 years at least, and nearly everyone (female!) I know has had at least one treatment with them. They offer a wide range of treatments such as facials, makeup lessons, manicure, pedicure, overlays, extensions, weight loss treatments, kids parties, bridal makeup and makeup lessons, gift vouchers, spray tanning, the list goes on! A nice touch also, is that they remember all of their clients at Christmas time by sending out a card. I like About Face a lot, and it would still be the salon I would consider first, out of the many salons now open in town.

Ask for Nadine and you'll get a great blow dry that will last for a couple of days. She is particularly good at (somehow) getting loads of bounce and volume into my thin hair and will spend ages backcombing and styling to give me the Big Hair I love. Its a relaxed and friendly salon with zero intimidation factor and no-one bats an eyelid when I arrive in my pre Big Night Out sloppy joggers and no make up which really isn't a pretty sight. To give you some idea of how accommodating they are I can tell you that during one of my blow drys it started to rain and when I said I had no umbrella, they let me take home one of their gowns to cover my blow dry! Another time I forgot my purse and they happily let me leave without paying. Oh and they still kept smiling when it took Me a week to remember to go back to pay! Prices won't break the bank either at a rather purse friendly £12 for a blow dry on my long hair.

Salon do monthly offers on their website/ facebook pages so I popped in recently for a gel polish and eye trio (Brow wax, tint and lash tint) for £25 which is a total bargain. Good quality products used and the salon is decorated in a pop art/ Hollywood vibe. You can book online too which I love and the staff are very helpful in recommending treatments that would suit if you have any concerns. Open late to 8pm on Wed, Thurs & Fri evenings too.

After filing (in the most awful, uneven shape) the therapist Amy moved straight to painting...therfore painting the nail filings ONTO my nail...giving a LESS than desireable finish. She quality of her polishing was worse than the filing - much like how your nails look when you paint with the left hand. To be fair to 17 yr old Amy she will probably be amazing when she is working full time and has left tech. But for now a bit more practice on some false nails wouldnt go amiss. Im now home with a handful of smudged, warped, uneven messes of nails. Prob wont be back.

There was a large cat lounging on the waiting sofa and the whole place was filthy and smelt of smoke. I was just contemplating leaving when I was told I was ready to be taken and shown to one of the treatment rooms. Ahead of getting changed I ventured to the loo - upon seeing the toilet I decided against using it. It was dirty, without toilet roll, soap or hot water. The treatment room was grubby and also smelt of stale smoke - but I'd come this far.....the 'massage' was one hour of being rubbed with no pressure, rhythm or professional feel to it. After the awkward hour was over I was very relieved to be able to leave - passing the salon cat leisurely sprawling on a treatment bed as I went. All evening my eyes were sore and itchy - and this morning I have awoken to find them swollen, ever more itchy and uncomfortable. The only conclusion I can come to is that at some point the cat was lying on the massage bed I was on, and I have spent an hour with my face on cat hair and I have had a reaction.
