With a year membership ($15 for students!!), you get free intermediate workshops (6-8pm) and a discounted entry to the social dance at 9pm. It's been totally worth it. The instructors are fabulous, and I've learned fun lindy moves. Each week there may be different instructors, and the month's dance for the workshop also changes (lindy, charleston, balboa). There's a beginner lesson at 8pm for anyone new to east coast swing so you're ready to go for the social dance at 9 ($7 for members, $10 for nonmembers). Everyone has been friendly here with wide range of ages from college students to the older population. They also have a live band once a month. :) They accept cash + card!

I am so surprised that the Dallas Swing Dance Society doesn't have its own page on Yelp yet! But…read morethen again, I didn't find out about it until two weeks ago. Every Saturday, the Dallas Swing Dance Society gets together at the Sammons Center for the Arts (http://www.yelp.com/biz/sammons-center-for-the-arts-dallas). Here's what their website says: All dances & workshops held the 2nd, 3rd & 4th Saturdays of the month. Mini-Workshops (for people that already know how to swing dance) 6:00pm-8:00pm $10 for members $15 for non-members Swing On A String Beginner Lesson 8:00-9:00pm (for people with no clue about what they are doing) Dance 9:00pm-midnight $5 for members $8 for non-members You really don't have to go with a partner for the dance lessons because they make you switch partners after every few minutes. But if you're a guy, you're going to have to do a lot of asking after the lessons are over. As a girl, the regulars were really nice about asking me to dance, but that's only based on one personal experience. The teachers were really patient. They really do assume that you know nothing about swing dancing, so come on out even if you've never done it before! Dress code is wear whatever you want (I'm being serious...you'll see a lot of diversity in clothing there), but try to wear shoes that are flat and can slide on wood floors. Girls, dancing in heels is not fun and all the regulars wear Keds anyways, so its socially acceptable to wear comfy shoes.

It was known throughout Dallas as the Alexander Mansion. The Woman's Forum is an organization committed to empowering women and children through education and advocacy. The group purchased the building and also makes it available to the public for weddings, holiday parties, corporate events, meetings, luncheon, tea parties, bridal showers, dinners, and cocktail parties. I came here for an authors forum. The building proved to be a perfect setting for that event as well. While it is a really neat event space with a decent sized parking lot, it could use a little restoration. Keep in mind it is an old building, and old buildings need a lot of work. For example the front porch has tiles missing, and the interior has walls and corners that need touching up, floors that could use refinishing, etc. Granted, most events will detract from many of those things, but to be good stewards of the rich history these old buildings possess, their owners should make certain they are kept in their original glory...in my humble opinion. Overall, this building is a treasure though and the city is blessed that the Dallas Woman's Forum shares it with the community!

They later contacted that person and I got my gear back. I was so lucky that they put in all the time and effort to help me track down my stuff. Another time, my bass player had an issue with his amp connection. One of the owners came into the rehearsal room and got out a separate amp for him to play on. In addition, their quad jam package is a great deal. You get four rehearsals for the price of three. Awesome place for any bands looking for a fairly priced rehearsal space!
