I think I may have found my new favorite coffeehouse in Longmont -- Sandi's -- and honestly, I'm…read moreenchanted by this place.
I spend a lot of time in the Lyons area because my kids have activities there from about 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and I've been looking for somewhere I can settle in and actually work for the day. I live in Northern Colorado, we're coming down from Loveland, so it makes a lot of sense as a home base while my kids are busy.
I had pretty much ruled out Boulder. I've found that many coffee shops there aren't particularly welcoming to people who want to stay and work for several hours. Some have three- or four-hour limits, very few offer Wi-Fi, and overall I haven't found the atmosphere inviting. I wanted somewhere I could order coffee and food, pull out my laptop, settle in, and not feel like I was constantly watching the clock.
Then I found Sandi's, and it was love at first sight.
The moment I walked through the door, I thought, "Oh... this is my vibe."
There's a really unique energy here. They sell Palo Santo sticks, jewelry, stickers, and various metaphysical goodies, but it never feels cluttered or gimmicky. They'll burn Palo Santo or sage in the bathroom, and I absolutely love the smell. There's even a little book where people can write quotes, positive thoughts, or words of encouragement. And -- something I deeply appreciate -- the bathroom has a bidet. I genuinely wish more restaurants and businesses would embrace bidets!
But what really impressed me is that Sandi's isn't just a coffee shop. They have a surprisingly robust schedule of events, including things like talks about death, sound-bowl meditations, and other interesting gatherings. I highly recommend checking out their event calendar and attending one.
And then there's the coffee.
Their lattes are excellent. The first barista I met was Bubbles, and she made an excellent latte. They also have a great selection of teas.
They don't have a traditional kitchen, and I actually think that's part of what makes their model so charming. Instead, they source food from other local businesses and warm it up in a panini press. I've become particularly fond of their tofu panini from a local bakery. I love that they're supporting other small businesses rather than trying to do everything themselves.
You'll also occasionally find local farm-fresh eggs for sale.
The physical space is another reason I love it. There's an upstairs and downstairs, with multiple places where you can sit and work. It's comfortable and cozy without being fancy. People come and go throughout the day, but it never becomes overwhelmingly loud. There are plenty of people who stay and work for hours, so you don't feel like the weird person camping out with a laptop.
And here's the part that sold me:
They actually WANT you to stay.
When I first came in, I told Bubbles specifically, "I'm looking for somewhere I can stay for six to eight hours while my kids are at activities. Are you going to be upset if I'm here that long?"
She looked at me like I had asked the strangest question and said, essentially, "No! We encourage it. That's what we want. Come stay with us."
YES.
That is exactly what I was looking for.
I can sit upstairs, get my laptop out, order several coffees throughout the day, have my tofu panini, use the Wi-Fi, and actually get work done without feeling like I'm overstaying my welcome.
That makes an enormous difference in my productivity. I'm not constantly watching the clock wondering when I need to pack up and leave. I can settle in and actually get into a flow state.
And there's something else I really appreciate about Sandi's.
Bubbles told me the owners have intentionally chosen not to heavily advertise the coffeehouse. Their philosophy has been that the right people will find them because they'll be attracted to the energy of the place.
That absolutely resonated with me.
I know that idea will sound "woo woo" to some people, but I completely understand it. I we are all energy. And when you walk into Sandi's, you can feel that somebody created this place with intention.
It's not polished or pretentious. It's not trying to be the trendiest coffee shop in Colorado.
It's just comfortable, interesting, welcoming, a little magical, and genuinely community-oriented.
That's exactly what I've been looking for.
So if you're in Longmont -- or you're coming through the Lyons/Loveland area and need somewhere to grab a great latte, work for a few hours, meet someone, attend an event, or simply hang out -- I highly recommend Sandi's.
Come for the coffee. Stay for the energy.
