Dr. Chi is an old-school style doctor--the kind one just doesn't see much of anymore. He sees to everything himself whether it be weighing and measuring or administering vaccines. He is a perfectionist who likes things to be done thoroughly and systematically which is something I value in a doctor trained to be evaluating my children's health. He never short changes you on time or attention. He has these catch phrases he uses with mom and dad that put everyone at ease and his accent, though a bit thick, is easy enough to understand and altogether part of his charm. We love dr chi! He is the pedi for my 1 year old and 4 year old. We've only waited more than 15 mins once, and there were a lot of other kids there with sick visits, so it was understandable. Dr chi has always answered all of our questions and been happy to explain things to us. We are very happy with him. Not every parent is going to get along with every pedi, hats just human nature. Really disappointing. I had looked forward to Dr Chi after being recommended from Midwives of NJ. First strike was the space itself-- the fact that it's in an ugly Taco Bell looking building with zero curb appeal and zero toys. Strike 2-No "meet the doctor" visits allowed. You must transfer over to the practice without even meeting the guy-- should have stopped there. Strike 3 - not friendly staff. strike 4- pile of dumdum lollipops and big open trash in waiting room, combine that with no toys a toddler and twenty minute wait. Strike 5- he treats you like you are another kid, very strange comportment. And the last strike, most insulting: just received word that unless I comply with strictest APA vaccine schedule within 30 days my son is effectively expelled from the practice, not even alternate schedule will be considered. Dr. Chi is a legend-- ask anyone with kids within a 50-mile radius. My wife and daughter and I live in a PA town about 35 minutes away. There is a pediatrician within walking distance but we make the commute because we love Dr. Chi so much. So do half the people we know in town. We have called on a Sunday morning, and Dr. Chi has told us that he was in his office, so we should just stop by! The greatest doctor we've ever had-- I would even call him a hero of the profession. I started with Dr. Chi because he was open to alternate vax schedule as my LO had a VARES reportable vax reaction at 3 months. Dr. Chi was always pleasant when treating my LO. We traveled 30 minutes one way to see him. He does not incorporate much time for Q&A, is not associated with any hospital, but I overlooked these things because he's knowledgeable & thorough. After a year of care with Dr. Chi, he changed his vaccination policy. In effect, the new policy would fire any patients who did not vax according to the CDC schedule. This was fine for me, because we were only 1 vax behind. The office manager gave my husband the memo. The language of the memo insinuated I could discuss & catch up the next visit we had. I got a call 40 days later saying I was late in complying. I called & tried to fix the issue, explaining that I didn't know there was a time limit. The office manager, Heather, acted as if I should know because she claimed she told my husband. I stated that it wasn't on the memo & if it was important it should've been on there. She talked down to me. I tried to resolve the issue so she gave us 3 days to catch up. She also allowed us a week to get documentation for the exemption. When I confronted her about her ill treatment of me, she continued to bully me & acted as if she hadn't said anything untoward. She was consistently rude & even insulted my relationship with my husband. That's just one tiny example of her unprofessional behavior. I tried to resolve our conversation gone awry. She tried to accuse me of being rude when I confronted her & took no responsibility for her misbehavior. Alternatively, I apologized when she misinterpreted my distress for rudeness & explained that I was anxious because 3 days was a short time to comply. I went to the office 2 days later to comply with the new vax policy. I also had VARES & my last pediatrician's office to fax the info. When I went to this practice, I asked for a copy of my records because Heather threatened that if I didn't comply or get my records in 3 days, the office would charge me $35 to copy them. So I requested a copy in written form, stating that I needed a copy in case my "tenuous relationship with the office manager wasn't resolved." I asked for a formal apology. I was told by Katherine, an office worker, that if I decided to leave due to the new vax policy, we would not be welcome back. I did comply with the policy, but stated I had reservations about staying there because I was mistreated by Heather who had relentlessly bullied me. [I did ask Dr. Chi why he decided to change his policy. He said that it's a liability to treat patients who chose not to vax. He said that we don't decide the schedule, the CDC does. When I reiterated my concern due to my LO's reaction, he backpedaled & said he thought 4 vaccines were too many for one visit. He said he would reduce the amount to 2 vaccines a visit for us, but he could not justify only 1 per visit because it was not cost effective.] I received my LO's papers within a week. I called 2 weeks later to see if I could change my LO's 2 year well visit. Katherine said, according to the system my LO was discharged because I had requested her records. She took my info & had Heather call me back. Heather called back & said, "What's the problem?" I calmly explained that there was obviously a gross miscommunication. I continued by trying to solve any issues & resolve the problem I had with her previously. She just said repeatedly that anyone who gets their records is automatically discharged. As no one had informed me of this arbitrary rule, I tried to discuss a solution. Again, communication broke down with Heather & she began to bully me. She told me that I did not comply with their policy when I had. She lied & said I never provided them with the medical exemption, when Igot both the VAERS report & the previous pediatrician's full records faxed over to them. I said I would fax them again, but she ignored that solution. When I pressed the issue, she quoted a portion of my letter saying "without a formal apology". Heather said she presented Dr. Chi with that [mal] information, that I hadn't given documentation, so he discharged my LO. What she told him was a lie and she manipulated him to discharge us due to her inability to be professional. In effect, Heather runs the show, not Dr. Chi. IF Dr. Chi is aware of her gross mistreatment of his patients it's reprehensible. IF Dr. Chi is not aware, it's because he chooses not to be aware and it's just as reprehensible. In short, find another practice if you're looking for a pediatrician that will treat your child as a person with individual needs & not just as a dollar sign. Say no to bully tactics used to illicit compliance. Find someone who won't leave your child without a care provider based on unclear and constantly changing "rules" that only seem to apply to patients who dare to question the front office. On Christmas eve in 1980 my parents took me to the emergency room. I was only eight months old. Dr. Chi was my doctor and met my parents at the hospital. I was very sick and not expected to live through the night. It was told to me that Dr. Chi left the hospital and on his way home pulled over to a payphone. He had called the hospital to let them know he was coming back. Upon arriving he asked my Dad if they could do an experimental surgery to check my intestines. With no other options my parents agreed and they did the operation. Dr. Chi had diagnosed me correctly, I had intussusception. 34 years later and I am doing great. I have been with Dr. Chi for 12 years with both my girls. Yes, there can be long waits, but he does see new borns in the afternoon, when he first reopens, so I never waited long with them. If they are an emergency sick appointment, you can have a wait, because he will fit everyone in. As for the person who stated no time for questions, I find that VERY hard to believe. He always answers questions and with a newborn, you go back and sit in his office after the visit and talk to him. Two of my friends switched over and met with him before and did not have to transfer records, but he likes to read up and if your child has any medical diagnosis, he will want to know about it and will research it, if need be...he will want to know every medical detail. He also only recommends the best specialists. He diagnosed my daughter after one urinary infection with reflux, because he asked the right questions. i truly believe she would have had a few infections, with any other ped. As for the older woman at the desk, true, I am not a fan. I also do not like that I will have a 6pm appointment and sign in at 5:55 and a person with a 6:15 could sign in at 5:50 and go ahead of me. That is one thing they could work on. I could understand if I were late.... He is hard to understand, but I have never had a problem, don't know why I can understand him, no problem, but the girls that work there can help. He is so great with kids and my girls adore him. I rarely write reviews but I wanted to let others know about my experience. Older parents in the area rave about Dr. Chi and I understand in that he is a very nice, pleasant older man who has a nice bedside manner. You can see that he's been in practice for years and is a good doctor. The problem for me was that I felt like the communication wasn't there at all. He definitely has a busy schedule so I understand he couldn't spend alot of time explaining to me what was going on with my child, but then again, isn't that what a new parent needs? It was for me. When I asked questions, I would get very little in return of a response. As a new parent, I need someone who would explain what's wrong with my baby, communicate with me about my daughters progress, what to expect, and any random issues that I, as a new parent, have questions about. And this was honestly really hard to do. I felt bad about leaving because he is a very nice, good man, but I needed something more than just standard measurements and vaccinations. As for the older front desk lady, when I expressed my concerns to her about the communication issue, she said that she could answer any questions I had about the baby and that most peds don't really have time to speak to the parents and just have the nurses do office visits, so if I went elsewhere it would be worse. She also threatened repeatedly that if I left, they wouldn't take me back. Wow! I ended up finding another pediatrician. And for me, it was the right decision. read more

I brought my newborn baby to Dr Chi based on word of mouth, everyone seemed to really like him. We had 3 visits with him, 2 we waited for over an hour--with a small baby!!! Unacceptable. I also had a very hard time understanding him. He is very sweet but has no time for questions , is in and out very quickly -after making you wait that long, I feel this is not acceptable. Language barrier, long waits, and the third strike for me was (to be honest at this point, I had made up my mind that I wasn't going back) I was handed a letter by the receptionist saying that if we didn't follow his catch up shot schedule he would not treat our baby any longer. He went from being understanding with a delayed vaccine schedule to a very strict one with shots given every two weeks just to "catch up to the schedule" and all with out saying a word to us about it. The receptionist said "you might as well just do it because no other Dr is going to take you." Unfortunately for my first baby and as a first time parent, I'd say this was a terrible experience. Dr Chi is a great doctor. My daughter had a fever a while ago and the doctor actually answered the phone and talked to us on a Saturday night. We have a lot of respect for the doctor and are happy with the way he treated our daughter. read more

Dr. Chi is an amazing clinician. He is a true physician in every sense of the word. His history and physicals are thorough and he is compassionate. I have worked as an RN for 21years, most of which has been in emergency medicine. Almost all pediatricians on "off hours" have an answering service instruct parents to " go to the nearest ER". Dr. Chi , or his wife, answers his phone any time of night, weekends, and holidays. He will meet you in the office on a Sunday morning if need be. He is a wonderful, smart pediatrician and loves his kids. read more
