    Eggs Benedict Breakfast
    Jon D.

Food comes out fast, staff seems nice. Next time I'd love to dine in. Got the eggs Benedict and asked for onions and peppers on my home fries. The eggs were cooked perfectly. Home fries are extra homey (chunky).

I'm a breakfast chaser so off in the car for a 30 minute ride to a highly rated breakfast spot on Yelp. Thanks to committed Yelpers we all can find these hidden gems. The staff here was great and food just as good. Although I'm sure I was in MAGA country here reaching across the aisle was easy. All were pleasant not in a patronizing way at all. The decor is old school soda shop you know the ones in black and white movies with a soda jerk?! But modern, bright, clean and purposeful. Several televisions throughout Fox "News" on one, sports another and National Geographic on the other. Something for everyone. When I entered I was immediately great by a very pleasant and professional staff. The food was served hot, prompt, delicious with friendly service from Chole. She was the one who answered the phone to go over the hours of operation when I called. She ended the call with 'my pleasure'! And she was. Chi Cafe serves it all, at the right price and with a smile.

    Fun sitting area!!!

Chi Cafe is a nice little diner in a strip mall. It isn't fancy but it is good food for a good price!

I wanted to try a new place for breakfast thar wasn't along my normal route and I came across Chi Cafe. I came on a Wednesday and this place was pretty noisy with activity and patrons, which is always a good sign for a diner. The service is superb here; they left me with an impression that they treat everyone that walks through the door like a long term patron, which is nice and refreshing to see. In terms of food, it is a standard solid diner menu and quality. And the price is really reasonable too. Definitely a worth a try when in the area.

A retro feel without feeling kitschy.

Yesterday I was having a bad day. I had an ailment and I googled an urgent care close to me, and it told me to go to a nearby Rite-Aid. I paid for an Uber ride to get there only to walk in and be told they didn't have urgent care services. I was pretty annoyed. There's a nearby Goodwill, so I went in and bought a few cheap things to try and cheer myself up. But see, I'm diabetic, and I realized in my haste to get the day going I hadn't eaten anything at all. So on top of all of this I started to feel sick. I saw Chi Cafe a bit in the distance. It's in a kind of old school strip shopping center that I've never had occasion to visit. It's unassuming. From the outside, I have to admit - no offense - it doesn't look that special. I was a little wary about going in but I thought, meh, worst case, I just buy a dessert to get my blood sugar up and move on to elsewhere. Then I walked in, and I was greeted with the cutest little retro diner decor. I know lots of diners try to "do 50's style decor", but this place really felt like I had done a time warp. Everything was really new looking and clean, too. I thought... well damn, this might work out after all. I did notice that literally every other patron was 60 or over, but to me that's a good sign. Older folks don't suffer bad service or lousy food. I'm 39, but sit me down with some elders for a meal and I know I'm probably in for a good experience. There were several waitresses at 11:20AM, and I didn't really have just one server taking care of me. It seemed like they all visited me at one point or another, and they were ALL. GREAT. Look - I'm kind of a crotchety old bitch. I don't ask for a lot, but I do like being taken care of while also not having someone at my table like 40 times in a half hour. And they got the balance JUST RIGHT. But on top of that, they were so sweet and polite and it seemed really genuine. Like they seemed legit happy to help me out and have me there. That isn't easy for someone in a job where they are on their feet all day. I was really really happy. I was also in the mood for some soup, and one of the SOTD was a shells and chicken jawn. I figured, for $3.99, give it a shot. I cannot tell you in adequate words how friggin' good this soup was. I dunno, it could've been straight out of a can, I don't care. I would go back for this soup alone and I'm dead serious. Then I ordered a patty melt, and I had some changes: I asked for well done, with lettuce and tomato, and I asked them to remove the grilled onions and substitute raw. I added fries which is a $1.00 upcharge. It comes with Russian dressing as well, and the server who took my order did double check that I wanted that dressing after all my specifics and changes. I don't know, it just felt really cool that she asked. She didn't have to, but she did, you know? So then this burger comes out, and it was damn perfect. You're probably reading this like "Big whoop, how hard is it to screw up a burger?" Let me tell you: it's easy. I order a lot of burgers, and the biggest issue I experience is well done either being ignored by the cook because they think they know better, or well done turning into a hockey puck. This burger gave me LIFE. It was cooked PERFECTLY. The toast it was on was grilled CORRECTLY. The lettuce, tomato, onion were FRESH, not wilty garbage. There was just the right amount of dressing and cheese. The fries were perfect. And then, you guys for serious, the total meal including unsweetened iced tea w/ refills was less than $15. $1.99 for the tea - and I know at this point I sound crazy but it was GOOD tea - and $3.99 for the soup, and ONLY $7.99 for the burger and fries. Total with tax was $14.81 and you better believe I dropped a $20 and left the change. I have passed by this place so many times without giving it a second thought, and now I am for sure going to make an effort to come back here, on purpose, as often as I can. And you should too.

This is a wonderful dumpy home spun diner. Service was great, looks dingy, food was hot at spot on. I wish half of the breakfasts I ate where half as good. Just plain old good done right. Coffee stayed full and hot. You really can't ask for much more. Lots of parking. And super inexpensive.

This is one of those "Everybody knows your name" place. They make you feel welcome from the second you walk in the door. Coffee was always free flowing and delicious. Very large selection of items on the menu for both breakfast and lunch. If I lived closer I would be there a few times a week.I had their crabcake eggs Benedict and my guest had a vegetable omelette both were superb, service was quick and very attentive. It takes a real treat to get five stars out of me and this was a real treat. I look forward to my next visit at Chia Café.

The space is very bright with gold and color everywhere on a bright little corner in Claymont and has good parking in front and around back. But what is really exciting is that when you step through the door and walk to the counter, you see how interesting the menu on offer really is. I had every intention of having a breakfast sandwich or bagel, but once I saw the whole menu and saw that I could order a noodle bowl for breakfast, the game had changed. I also ordered a delicious cappuccino which was extremely hot, almost too hot, but was very espresso forward and perfect for the morning. However, the two bagels we ordered, one for my wife and one for my youngest daughter, despite being delicious, had barely any cream cheese on them at all. The noodle bowl and rice bowl that we got were also tasty but there was nothing exceptional about them or to make them stand out other than my initial excitement that I could order noodles for breakfast. Everything was made by hand and done right then and there and fairly quickly and everything was very fresh as well as everyone that we interacted with being very helpful and upbeat when we ordered. I even asked about getting one of their very fun shirts they have available. If you happen to be passing on 495, a quick two minute drive off the exit will get you here and it's worth it rather than heading to some chain. Hop on by and enjoy a delicious coffee and possibly some noodles for breakfast if that's your thing like it is mine!

There were several surprises about the place when we got there, but I can't speak enough about the space and the fact that it is built into a cozy what-seems-to-be old home of some sorts. The space is quaint and is a very nice place to go with a small group; the four of us having plenty of space and having a very at-home vibe while we were there. I am sure that others may not understand why this didn't hit my normal recommendation but I will try to shed some light on that below. Our server WAS attentive, but almost too attentive. I know this may sound strange. However, when one is enjoying a leisurely breakfast with friends, constant interruptions become something beyond just making sure the table is taken care of and enter the domain of simply not knowing the job or being able to read the customers. This was also not someone new to the industry, but a veteran. Totally okay! Everyone has their idiosyncrasies and maybe it wasn't a great day, who knows. All that aside, everything was just bland. There was nothing inherently wrong. It just wasn't good. In fact, it was so baseline and unimpressive that I will likely not return here. It may have been the wonderful aesthetic that made me feel like I'd be getting homestyle outstanding breakfast but the whole meal just missed the mark. As I have said many times in all of my reviews, including many breakfasts/brunches, I am a soup fanatic. I will order soup with ANY meal. The chicken tortilla soup here was one of the strangest I've ever encountered, and flat out not good.....and I hate to say that because all soup is inherently good on some level. But I could not call this chicken tortilla soup, except that there was a pile of tortilla strips on top. I will still recommend you check out Towne and Country because I continue to hear so many good things, and your experience may be very different than mine, and I love to support anything local that is going good business and supporting their community. But I don't believe we will be going back any time soon.
