We had many local family owned and operated Mexican family restaurants within the town we lived. This is not the same but we didn't expect it to be the same, but it's good nonetheless! The service is exceptional and very accommodating to small changes to the menu. Fluent in multiple languages (as many locals are here) and happy to explain the differences in the menu and drinks. I got the nachos grande as my meal and to share with the table and they were tasty. The chorizo wasn't greasy and everything was flavorful. My husband got the enchiladas and enjoyed the spice and non-greasy chorizo as well. My kids both enjoyed chips and cheese and quesadillas and got a small dessert at the end of the meal. All in all, I've had legit Mexican food and this is not it but it IS a fresh and flavorful and I did not feel stuffed with grease and cheese at the end (like I have at other restaurants). We enjoyed the sweet wait staff and the 'clean' version of Mexican here in France and our kids did too.

We started with nachos served cold and swimming in fake, orange "cheese" - the liquid stuff served in stadium fare. Then we had enchiladas and tacos, none deserving of the name. "Vegetarian" options consisted of pickled vegetables straight from a jar, not a fresh one in sight. Flavors were bland. Service was friendly. But with food this bad it's not enough.

That was all well and good, but apparently it's not all that easy to find an authentic Mexican restaurant in Geneva :-( All the food we ordered tasted like something that had been frozen in China then shipped to Switzerland and heated for serving in a microwave. Everything totally lacked any of the subtle flavors I've often enjoyed when eating in real Mexican restaurants. We've learned our lesson - next time we want a change of pace while dining in Geneva, perhaps we'll see about some Italian food.

On top of that, this is Geneva Switzerland, which is not known for any sort of good food at fair prices. Even so, I was amazed how UN-Mexican this food was. I should have taken a clue when we walked by the kitchen and the ENTIRE staff was Middle Eastern. First the good news -- it tasted reasonably well. No complaints actually (except for the chips - but more on that later) Tortilla chips were not very good at all. I'm not even sure they had corn in them. Thickest chips I've ever had. Instead of bearing any sort of yellow color, they were brown. Not sure if they were over cooked, made from some brown European corn strain or just some fried pita quartered to look like chips. Bottom line -- avoid the chips. Yuck. Salsa isn't much better. Not sure what it was, actually. I asked for some 'hot sauce" on the side, so I could jazz the salsa up a bit and they brought out Jalapenos. I was actually impressed they had jalapenos! If you're looking for cheap eats in Geneva, you don't have a lot of choices. Sure, go to Manana. It's really not awful. Glad I went, but just DON'T EXPECT MEXICAN!
