I loveeee this spot. Perfect for a fun brunch with friends. Even though I absolutely have come by myself and still had a great time. A bottomless brunch will always call my name. I love that margaritas are included in this one. Most recently, we celebrated my friends' birthday and had sooo much fun. A lot of that had to do with DJ Wawa bc brunch DOES turn into a party with him. All of us enjoyed our food. I can vouch for the steak & eggs and the potatoes. My friend really enjoyed the octopus. The servers are all amazing as well! The name I remember is Landon. Love them all though.

When my friend DJ WAWA is spinning, I already know the vibe is right. I was nearby, so I pulled up to Chez Messy for some drinks and a few appetizers that I definitely enjoyed... even if I can't remember what they were. Blame the cocktails. The service was solid. The waiter was polite, the drinks kept coming, and the atmosphere was exactly what you want for a night out--laid back but lively. Would I go back? Absolutely. Maybe next time I'll actually take notes on what I ate.

A group of us came here to celebrate a friend's birthday. The space was swanky, chic and sleek, with pretty chandeliers hanging inside cool birdcages from the ceiling, unique artwork, as well as candles. There were 2 levels and the downstairs had a small bar. Upstairs had more intimate seating and paintings of a woman's face, along with red roses. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. As most of the menu was tapas, I got to try most items. I ordered the Bang Bang Shrimp and Tortilla Espanola with Chorizo. The Shrimp was fried and tossed in a slightly spicy mayo sauce, topped with scallions. They were nicely crispy, succulent, and well seasoned. The Tortilla Espanola was basically a Spanish Omelette, and I wasn't really a fan. It didn't seem like it was made out of egg and tasted kind of bland. The Chorizo was cooked well and tasty though. I also got to try a bunch of other dishes, including the Papas Bravas (fried potato bites), which was made in a pimento sauce. These potatoes were quite addicting and full of bold flavor. The Steak with chimichurri sauce was cooked perfectly with char masks. Salmon with cous cous was light and fresh, boasting a satisfying crunch. Brussel sprouts were soft and pretty tasty. For dessert, I tasted the Chocolate Ganache and Crème Brûlée. Chocolate Ganache was velvety smooth, rich, and sweet, while the Crème Brûlée was oh so creamy with a nice caramelization. Service was solid. Our waitress was super personable and knowledgeable about the menu. We received all our food in a timely manner. My group definitely enjoyed our time here. Prices are pretty reasonable. I might return to try the Ropa Vieja Mofonguitos, Bacon and Manchego Croquettes, or Fried Calamari.

As a late birthday gift, my aunt treated me to dinner while in town. I chose this location because it was on my saved list and close to her house. It was small but cool vibe and service was decent. Now, $20 for a cocktail is wild. The food was tasty but the portions were tiny for the price point.

OMG OMG OMG WE LOVED THIS PLACE!!! Wonderful decor. Awesome, friendly, happy staff. And the food...the food was TDF. All the yums!!! We arrived early, without a reservation, because it was before 6 pm. We were promptly seated and greeted by Landan, our utterly charming and exceedingly handsome server. The Mommy had a glass of Spanish wine, and I had ginger ale--which was actually ginger ale--because I had had food poisoning just hours before. But the Emetol worked, luckily. My mother had the grilled mango salmon with couscous, minus both the mango salsa and couscous. It came with a small side salad and was perfect. The salmon was perfectly cooked medium-rare. I had three tapas plates. WOWZA. I was expecting teeny-tiny servings. These were GENEROUS! I was stunned and couldn't finish any of them. The Tortilla Espanola was so, SO good!!! Tender potatoes layered with egg. The charred shishito peppers with remoulade were perfection, deliciously spicy. The Papas Bravas....*swoons* probably the best that I have EVER had. So incredibly delicious, my carb-hating mother loved them! Beyond yummy. Did I mention that we LOVE this place? We'll be back. So fun, such amazing FOOD. And the ambiance is glorious. Touch of goth, lots of whimsy, but also a planned aesthetic.

Great tapas spot! Went for happy hour on a Friday and had a really nice time. Loved the ambiance! The music was on point, as so were the drinks, food, and service. My favorite tapas were the Bang Bang shrimp and I highly recommend it. The Tuna Tartare and Patatas Bravas were delicious as well. The Pulpo was just okay and the Shishito Peppers were pretty regular. They have a few drink specials for happy hour but no discounts on the cocktails. I lovedd the "La Mula" though, which had a combination of pomegranet and berry puree. The Crisp Kiss is also worth trying. Overall a solid choice in the neighborhood and I would definitely return to try more dishes on the menu.

It's small cozy restaurant, the food was delicious. Had the tuna tartare and the ropa viajo mofongo for appetizer, steak for dinner . Our server was tentative but her shift finished and she left , her understudy trainee is ok . Over all it's a good experience , a place to explore and experience.

Well for starters- WOW! What an amazing place, this is certainly a gem that I'm so happy has made it into the neighborhood. The ambiance is incredible, from the outdoor dining with a spot to take photos to the inside. It's so festive and the vibes are impeccable- their music playlist choice also added so much to our experience! Our servers were very friendly and engaging. This is easily the best sangria I've had and it's been so hard to find the right one. The food also was a complete hit. We ordered almost everything on the menu (it was so good I didn't even get a picture of most things- we dug right in!). We had the escargots, salade olivier, green beans lyonnaise, seared tuna au poivre, spicy crispy rock shrimp, and steak empanadas. To top it off, we finished with the beignets and crema catalana and they were oh so good. It was all divine as there was not a bad dish to be had. I will absolutely be back to try the other cocktails and dishes- this spot is a banger!

I've been to Chez Messy over half a dozen times now and each visit is a great time - amazing drinks and delicious food. I've had the pulpo - octopus - a few times and love the capers and thinly sliced garlic cloves tossed in. The shishito peppers are fire. With the libations, I'm a fan of the Messy Bitch and the 24k. Man that gold leaf make it If you live in the Heights and want a Chelsea vibe in our neighborhood, come thru!

Gorgeous place, relaxing atmosphere The food is delicious (chef kiss). The staff makes you feel welcomed. The drinks are amazing!! I 100% recommend you stop by. You will fall in love with this gem!! I love the fact that they also have Flamenco Wednesdays, with flamenco dancers, flamenco singer and guitarist. This will be moving forward my go-to spot. I came here on a Friday night for dinner with a Pulsd which I purchased. My dinner was good. I ordered a couple of items. I ordered the tuna tartare which I really enjoyed. I also ordered the empanadas which had good dough but the filling was ok. I also had a mocktail which was alright. I had two main entrees one was the steak and shrimp and another was the brick chicken. For dessert, I had the crème brûlée and it was good. I would say the custard part should be thicker. The service was good; I went the day before Valentine's Day. The staff was friendly and I would definitely come back. I did want the burger but they didn't have it. The place is small but is a nice place for a dinner date or solo. Everyone looked like they were enjoying their food. I would come to try more items from their menu. read more

I'm visiting my mom from Los Angeles, and as we planned a night out together, I wanted to support a local spot. There's always something new whenever I return home, and this time it was Chez Messy, just around the corner from the 157th Street train station. Perched up upon a small staircase, this two-floor restaurant is intimate, cozy, and deeply sultry. Nestled in the heart of Uptown New York City, a neighborhood known for its Dominican roots and growing diversity, Chez Messy shines as a Spanish Caribbean infused gem that took my breath away. The space feels both refined and familiar, elegant yet soulful. As I sat waiting for my mother, I opened the menu, and immediately everything called my name. Our server Joshua was an absolute delight, attentive, kind, and confident in every recommendation. Antonio, the owner and floor manager, greeted us with charm and poise. Dressed in a sharp suit, he exuded pride and grace, the embodiment of someone who deeply loves what he has created. What touched me most was realizing that this Spanish Caribbean dream of a restaurant is owned and operated by Dominicans. As someone who has traveled the world and eaten in countless hidden gems tucked along cobblestone streets, I can say this place holds its own among the best. We started with a crisp glass of Albariño and dove into the pulpo and mofonguitos filled with ropa vieja. Let me start by saying I'm not typically a red meat superfan, but that evening I was completely transformed. The ropa vieja was tender, savory, juicy, and full of flavor. The plantain cups that held it were subtly sweet, creating a beautiful harmony between bold and delicate notes. The pulpo was perfection, tender octopus paired with a light touch of vinegar and oil, thinly sliced onions, capers, and cherry tomatoes that burst like little jewels of freshness. It was bright, balanced, and refreshing, a perfect prelude to what would become an unforgettable meal. Then came a surprise from Antonio, the avocado salad and batatas bravas, further inviting us into the full Chez Messy experience. I've had batatas bravas in Spain and beyond, but these were divine. Perfectly crisp on the outside, soft and creamy on the inside, with seasoning that danced on the palate. The avocado salad was heaven itself, silky avocado paired with slivers of almonds and a hint of citrus, perhaps grapefruit, creating a beautifully layered bite that was both rich and refreshing. By the time our entrée arrived, filet mignon and shrimp in cream sauce, medium rare, we were already swept away. The filet was tender and bursting with flavor, the shrimp perfectly cooked, and the cream sauce was so delicious that I found myself tempted to lick the plate. Everything about our experience at Chez Messy was divine, from the impeccable service to the romantic, dark, and dreamy ambiance, the vibrant music that moved through the air, and the drinks that sparkled as much as the conversation. Chez Messy is where you go when you want great food in a wonderful location, when you want to feel inspired, seen, and transported. It is a love letter to Spanish Caribbean flavor and Dominican pride, wrapped in elegance and joy. This place deserves to be full every night, though a part of me secretly wants to keep it all to myself. read more

Came here last night for dinner and drinks with a friend. We had an absolutely wonderful time, thanks to the wonderful staff Antonio and Joshua. We didn't realize it was restaurant week so we were able to enjoy 3 courses for just $45. I very much loved the papas bravas, the churritos and the burger. The burger is infused with bacon and it's just *chef's kiss*. Also not to miss was the sangria, it gives Apt 78 sangria (iykyk). The steak with mashed potatoes wasn't my fave though, I'll admit that. The DJ was playing the tracks all night, around 9pm it was a lot of salsa, Bad Bunny, dembow, etc. They also have hookah for those who partake. Really recommend the Papas Bravas and the Salmon. The Side Bitch is also excellent drinks wise! On Wednesday nights they have a live band performing which was so great. Service was good, and gave excellent recommendations the entire time. If you're in the area, can't go wrong here. read more

The tapas were delicions and Antonio was fabulous. I was there for a business dinner and Antonio turned down the music in my corner so we could talk more easily. Patatas bravas were out of this world. Great space and great hospitality! read more

Alexis is the bomb! She came by to chat with us after a very nice late night dinner and was so much fun. Our server, Gigi was also amazing and gave us some great recommendations. We had: papas bravas, petite bistro steak, steak empanadas, torta espanola, Brussels sprouts and the ham and sausage board. They were all delicious but the potatoes we definitely next level. Loved the birria consommé that came with the empanadas and the chimichurri that accompanies the filet. The Galicia lager pairs well with all the food and you must order the Catalan creme dessert to finish - like crème brûlée but better. Good music and ambience too. Oh My God! Oh MY MY! What a WONDERFUL TIME i had there yesterday at Chez Messy! Starting with our server Esteban, he was PHENOMENAL AND KIND. My husband and I told him that we made reservations there as we met in City College 23 years ago and we were doing a bit of reminiscence as it was our 22 year wedding anniversary as we married 9 months later after we met and Esteban went all out. All the staff and management made us feel BEYOND special! what a chick and sexy place to be in! They made my 22 year wedding anniversary memorable! If you live close by and you havent gone YOU ARE MISSING IT! This place is relaxed and beautiful and cozy and the decor is just gorgeous and the food...the food is PERFECTION!!!! Their Tapas and entrees and desserts! I am telling you, I am coming back and i am bringing all my family. They need to be in a place where you feel like family. I came here for my birthday on a Thursday evening. I had a great experience. I opted for some tapas and a mocktail. We ordered the Patatas Bravas, Grilled Chicken Wings, Bacon & Manchego Croquettes, and the Ropa Vieja Mofonguitos. The food was fresh and flavorful, good portion size as well for tapas. I was glad to see they had N/A options on the menu. I ordered Da Prick Mocktail. It was very refreshing. The staff was attentive, kind and welcoming. The ambiance is very nice, good background music to where you can still have a conversation without yelling. The space is decorated beautifully. We spoke to Antonio on the way out. When he found out it was my birthday he offered a dessert to go. The staff came out and sang Happy Birthday with sparklers. It made me feel so happy and special. Overall, I would recommend Chez Messy for any occasion or to stop by and get a bite to eat. They have live music as well on Wednesday nights. I will definitely be going back to check that out. Help spread the word about this spot. There's nothing else like it uptown. read more

Came here with my sisters to celebrate one of their birthdays and we had such a great time! The staff was super friendly and made us feel welcome right away. Our server, Deirdre, was polite, attentive, and so sweet. The food was delicious, the ambiance was beautiful, and the music really set the vibe. Came here last night and was greeted warmly by the staff, decor has a touch of elegance and romance without being pretentious. The atmosphere was laid back and there were no roudy people. We were given a sampler of their sangria as a complimentary drink and it was so good we had to order a full glass..All the food on the menu were delish. The wait staff was very attentive and pleasant. There was Karaoke around 9pm. Anyone is welcome to sing. I believe they have live music on Saturday nights too. Hands down best local spot for splitting apps, mains, desserts. Incredible cocktails, they taste like fun in the tropics. Make sure you see Alexis, she'll make you feel right at home. Wow I can't say enough great things about this restaurant!! From the amazing service to the great food and even entertainment... everything about this place was 10/10. As we were seated we were pleasantly greeted with complementary sangria and even received chips with guacamole. When it came to the food, everything was incredibly flavorful. i live close by and go very often. Today was the second time in a row that i go and get things added to my bill that i did not order. first time they added 2 extra water bottles that i did not order and fortunately noticed right away and was able to get it removed . What a great addition to the neighborhood! Before the owners totally remodeled and revamped this space, it was just an odd coffee shop. My friend and I went for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed the tapas - even the olives are top notch. Free Sangria to start. Rivals most other tapas spots in Manhattan. I opted for a grilled cheese sans the bacon and it was good. The grilled cheese has goat cheese in it which may not be for every one. I had an aviation drink and a glass of riesling. The cocktail was pretty standard. The wine was good. Service was generally good and attentive at the bar. The host in the front was kind. It seems like they have a coat check which I did not use. There is one bathroom in the back. The bar is definitely more crowded pre and post theater. It was packed 5pm-7pm but around 7pm, it became noticeably quiet and the bar emptied out. I'd suggest coming here while a show is playing to avoid a crowd. However, even with a packed house, the bar was not loud. Of course, if you prefer a pre or post theater cocktail, I'd recommend a reservation to guarantee entry. While this bar won't be known for its drinks or food, I think much of the allure stems from the location and the reputation for attracting famous clientele. It's a pretty chill place in the midst of crazy Times Square, so I'd definitely come back. To my astonishment every single dish I tasted was delicious. Literally every time I tasted a different on it just got better and better. Just when i thought it couldn't get better I devoured (quite greedly my friend proclaimed) the Pulpo!!!! WOW I order Pulpo at every restaurant i dine at that offers it and this was hands down the best i've ever had!! perfectly grilled on the outside and tender on the inside accompanied by delicious roasted potatoes, capers and some crispy little slices of garlic. Cocktails were perfectly balanced and well executed. The service was friendly and attentive and quite attractive. The decor is sexy and seductive. Totally felt like we were at a trendy downtown manhattan spot. Almost felt like a mini version of Tao. Instead, we were charged $22 for shrimp tacos -- and this is after the Pardner specifically mentioned that he was NOT ordering shrimp tacos as he does not eat shrimp. When we politely brought this to the wait staff's attention, they denied that there had been an overcharge. Since the card had already been run, we didn't make a scene of it. But fellow Yelpers be warned: ******* THIS IS NOT AN HONEST ESTABLISHMENT. ******* Tacos were made with flour tortillas, more lettuce than chicken, and quite unlike what you'd find in Mexico. Supposedly Peruvian ceviche was not that. It lacked much acid or heat, and the usual accompaniments (e.g. cancha, sweet potato).
