Our male server was wonderful and attentive! The food was delicious and well spiced. Chips and salsa were very good with the chips fresh out of the oven and salsa tasting smoky and rich. We each had margaritas which were refreshing and bracing with plenty of tequila. I ordered chipotle chicken enchiladas. They were full of tasty chicken and the enchilada sauce was nicely spiced with chipotles too. I liked the vegetarian black beans, small corn cake and Mexican rice side dishes as well. My boyfriend ordered the four tacos Al Pastor and he said they were delicious. I had a bite of them and the roasted pork melted in my mouth. Chevys is one of those places where you find something you really love that will keep drawing you back. For me, it's the salsa and their delicate chips and that scoop of tomalito that comes with your meal. For main entrée, I really like their smothered burrito. I've had other dishes from here but not quite like the smothered burrito. For drinks, the margaritas are always a solid choice but I've tried their mojitos as well and no complaints there. Service may be slow at times. I've had a couple of visits when I ordered a second drink and it took until after I finished eating before it came or did not come at all. As a general rule, I just don't order a second one nowadays. Decor is typical of tex-mex/Mexican restaurant type places although I might have my own interpretation of that. Met a large group of friends here for lunch. The restaurant was able to easily accommodate 11 of us so that was nice. Our service was fair. Our waiter was good about drink refills for those with tea or soda but other requests or questions were not managed as well. One thing reliably good at Chevys is their salsa. I love the flavors in there. My friends even used it as salad dressing (because the selection at restaurant is not great). I ordered a side salad and combo meal. I got a carnitas taco in a crispy shell and enchilada with picadillo meat inside. Both were good. Anyone who ordered chicken seemed to be disappointed with their dish. The chicken was dry as they described it. Horrible!!! We were not in a rush. Ordered drinks and an appetizer. We needed a little time to look over the menu. The waiter and trainee brought out the drinks and chips. The food runner brought the fajita nachos out, with way over cooked chips. The runner had his pants under his butt with his printer snug boxer shorts in full display. (I do not want to see the the fitted underwear of the person serving me food in a restaurant).. Soon after the delivery of the appetizer our server stopped by with a "is everything ok?" and quickly moved on. We never seen him again. No dinner for us! Flagged down the manager. Explained the service issues, blank stare. She finally asked, "what can I do?". We asked for the check so we could leave. Chain restaurant in the Mexican food style. I had the pick 2 combo for 14.50, Mini chimi, and a Chile releno, with rice and beans. The mini chimi was tasteful with a good chicken to cheese to beans ratio. The Chile releno could have cooked a bit longer as the pepper was not quite done, the beans were very flavorful and were actual beans like Casa Guallardo had back when they were around. We had the worst meal ever at Chevys. We have been going there for 15 years. The menu says skirt steak tacos with cojita cheese. Instead, we did NOT get skirt steak. The steak had big chuncks of fat and gristle, the size of a quarter. (The manager did confirm it was not skirt steak, he mentioned another type of steak I had not even heard of. But it was very fatty....not good )The cheese was bagged cheddar, it was not Cojita cheese, which is what is said on the menu. The manager was extremely rude. It was a really bad experience. Usually a good manager will try to solve the problem, and work with the customer. Not him. He could care less that the menu says skirt steak, and we did not get that. Very bad experience. Worst ever. And we have been there probably 40 times, we live less than a mile away. read more

I remember the steak fajita being very flavorful and the portion being generous, but that was several years ago. Tried it again for the nostalgia, dang it was by far the WORST fajita I've ever had. We hadn't been here in over a year, and were kind of disappointed again. There are no lunch choices, so it's kind of expensive for lunch. Our food was mostly fine, but not everything was hot. Our server was friendly but not very attentive. They weren't busy, but we had to wait to be seated, and for our food. Ambiance was pretty much as expected for a chain restaurant. I asked for an avocado pit, because they used to make the guacamole fresh, but no luck. "We don't do that anymore." I'm really torn here. I don't know which way to lean. So I'm going sgtraight down the middle. We've been To Chevys three times now. The first visit went well. The food was good, The waitstaff was nice, it was clean, no problems, nothing to report on other than it was a pleasant experience. The food was good, the fajitas were nice and hot, the complimentary chips and salsa were very nice. It was so pleasant, in fact, that we went back for a second visit. October 8th, 2022, Saturday. We had some running around to do and afterwards we were happy that we would be able to try Chevys for a second time around. This was just after nine, Saturday. They are open until 10. We went in and waited at the hostess stand for a few minutes. It was a good five minutes before we were acknowledged and the gentleman that came said sorry but they're closed. What? I don't make it a habit of going to restaurants right before they close but this was just after nine on a Saturday. Technically I should be able to get there at 9:56 and still get seated. But, seriously, it was somewhere in the vicinity of 9:10. So we were disappointed and a little miffed. BUT! We went back a third time. Always give a place a few tries before making up your mind. This visit was a solid three stars. Of note was the chile relleno. It was a huge disappointment. I should have taken a picture but neglected to. It wasn't a texmex chile relleno. Not even close. It resembled a chile relleno made by someone that was told over the phone how to make a chile relleno. The breading was thick, the pepper wasn't soft in the least, and the cheese....omg the cheese....it was cold and still somewhat runny. How do you get a chile relleno filled with cheese that is still viscous when it's room temp? I also had the beef taco and tamale. I found the taco a little bland, the tamale was quite good. I should stick with the fajitas and WHEN we go back I think that's what I'll be going back to. So, all told, five stars for the first visit, 1 star for the second, and solid three stars for the third and overall rating. read more

Warning Gift cards not the same as cash!!! (location won't accept) we recently dined on taco Tuesday and enjoy our meal but when we went to pay we were told that we could not use our gift card because we had ordered the taco Tuesday meal. and a happy hour drink. we were told by the waiter that they don't accept the gift card because it was purchased at Costco. and it was discounted. he proceeded to tell us that they normally will take it the first time and would ask the manager. the manager came out in an explanatory uproar. stating how do we expect them to make money, stating the gift cards were a corporate thing and they wish they would not sell them. and advised us that they will not accept them because we ordered the taco Tuesday meal and it was already discounted. and we would have to pay an additional $19 to use the gift card. she also stated that they do not sell gift cards despite having a full window sign about gift cards . we decided to pay cash and use the gift cards at a different location that accepted them correctly. and I was told I wish you would go to the other location. we suggested they put up a note about the issue so everyone was not surprised and she exclaimed rudely I am not going to put up a Costco sign on my building. she continued to banter about corporate to the point that I was no longer even listing. she just keep getting closer to me and debating the issue without me rep[lying. I finally asked he to leave us alone. so she went and grabbed another manager and continue the water cooler conversation just behind our table. I steeped up to use the restroom only to hear them talking about us. we were celebrating a birthday. but that was no joy! this is my first review. we are very kind people. and did not deserve to have this escalated like this. I was a new customer to Chevys (who by the way has good salsa) but will not be going to this location ever again. we paid cash and left a 20 percent tip. and left chasing with the staff kindly as they thanked us. This location should change their name. it clear to me that they don't want to be part of Chevys. It all could have ended different if the management didn't come out villainizing the customers. I had never set foot or eaten Chevys Fresh Mex until last week when I came across them. For some reason I thought there were several locations in the St. Louis area (there are only 3) as it is apparently a company on life support. But I thought I'd check them out anyway so here goes... Service was great, prompt and the place was busy. Dining rooms were about 85% full and servers were always moving. Food came out at a reasonable time after I ordered. I had the Surf 'n Turf combo which consisted of a chicken taco, shrimp enchilada, steak strips and a few other things. Plus there was the complimentary chips and salsa. I didn't get alcohol or dessert, regrettably, but maybe in the future. There are a few Mexican chains in the United States that try to stand out, and unfortunately for me, I get a lot of them confused with each other. I may come back to Chevys in the future, though the nearest location is far from where I live. read more

We traveled a long way to find a Chevy's again! The last one I went to in New Jersey wasn't great, but this one in STL was AMAZING! Hanna, our waitress was adorable! Her personality and service were terrific!! She's one of those people who are happy all the time and she was on the spot with anything we needed. She was busy, but took the time to chat with us as well. The food was spectacular! No one makes salsa as good as Chevy's!! The margarita was awesome too. Just enough, but not overbearingly strong. Salsa was mild and pretty good, not bland. I put only 4 stars since my soup was cold when it arrived my table. And the medium rare steak I've got more like a 'chewy' than like a 'chevys'. As a skirt steak, it was really stringy, looks like shredded beef. I am from Texas and when I hear about steak, I think about medium rare juicy, lightly salted. This steak was marinated. Stopped here for lunch a few days ago. We didn't have to wait for a table, which was great. I ordered the lunch duo -- Southwest Cobb Salad and Chicken Quesadilla. The salad was very fresh and tasty. This was my family's first experience with a Chevy's restaurant, and I have to say, we were so surprised with how much we enjoyed our experience here. Usually with chain restaurants you're more than likely met with mediocre service and OK food. That wasn't the case here. We were created by a very nice and accommodating waiter, Dan. Dan introduced himself to our two young boys and really included them in our dining experience. Most waiters just ignore the kids and speak directly to the parents. Dan noticed that my older son enjoyed the house salsa, so he brought him another type to try as well. He also brought different kids of cheeses which don't normally with the entree my son chose, knowing that kids don't like "fancy cheese". He also made no issue of my youngest son's special salad request. My husband and I shared an order of the mixed grill and it was very good. The marinated steak was the favorite amongst us. It was big enough for both of us and Dan even brought us extra tortillas, knowing we were sharing. My sons had nothing bad to say about their dinner and asked if they could come back again soon. Went here on a Tuesday evening and it was not the best place to pick for Mexican food. We have never been here before. We walked in the door and were told they have hit their maximum capacity. Then she told us to sit down and we would be served as soon as they could. She brought over some chips and salsa. The salsa looked brown and old. Chips were very basic from like a bag not freshly made and definitely not no cantina style. We picked three different pick 2 meals and 2 kids meals. Portions were okay nothing huge. The beans looked like they had been sitting for over a week so dry so gross. The rice was also very dry. I got the Chile Relleno and Crispy Chicken Flautas. The Chile relleno had a breading over the pepper that wasn't deep fried so it was almost soggy. It wasn't horrible but I wish it was crispy. The flautas were dry and bland. No flavor on anything. My kid got the mini chimichanga and the enchilada. She want to shredded chicken for both but she didn't get that. The mini chimichanga was very small. The enchilada tasted terrible. The server hardly checked in on us. He was rushing us. He was like bothered by us. Overall not a good experience with food or service. I paid $45 for 2 pick 2 meals and a kids meal.
