I'm obsessed with Buc-ee's! It's a must-stop if you're in Texas. It's a massive travel center, with…read moresome locations having over 100 pumps. They've even expanded beyond Texas to places like Tennessee and Northern Virginia. Everything is kept clean, especially the bathrooms. This particular location is on the smaller side, so I can't even imagine how huge the larger locations are. There's a wide variety of souvenirs from apparel and home goods to even pet items. Towards the back, you'll find a deli, a wall of specialty beef jerky, tons of snacks, plus brisket sandwiches and desserts, including fudge. We ended up spending a good amount of time here before getting back on the road. You can sample the jerky. I really liked the Honey Jalapeño and Maple Cherry (on the sweeter side). And don't leave without grabbing the beaver nuggets!

We're continuing to hit up the Buc-ee's in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and this one was the first of…read morethe day. If you've been to a Buc-ee's, then you're familiar with how it works. It's close to the highway with easy access. There's a hundred gas pumps. There are multiple entrances to the store. Even at 1pm on a weekday, it was BUSY! Inside, there's that Buc-ee's smell that hits you hard. Candied nuts and fresh brisket. And all the other stuff you can see - jerky and fudge and soda fountains and Icees and a wall of candy. It's practically a ritual. Of course, we had to stop to visit the restrooms. Mrs. K. confirmed that the ladies side was excellent and I could see that the men's side was clean. I love the red/green lights to let you know which stalls are available or not. In addition to the fridge magnet, Mrs. K. added a BUC-EE'S ballcap to the collection along with two bags of the caramel drizzled Beaver Nuggets. Friendly service and everything else about it, just the way it is everywhere else. Awesome. [Review 404 of 2026 - 713 in Texas - 25587 overall]

Shell Gateway No 5 Convenient Store - Front

Shell Gateway No 5 Convenient Store

Coming off of 175 through Mabank (right past the High School) you will pass directly by this place…read more(if you don't take the business 175 exit that passes the front of the Jr. High). This shell station is just like all others, with the added bonus of a Church's Chicken and a Pizza Inn. The gas station itself is pretty solid. It's worth checking out the keychains and the personalized knives. They usually have some Mabank shirts and quite an interesting selection of local snacks (from local Beef Jerky to local Vanilla Wafers that swear not to get soggy in pudding) and everything in between. Standard colas, ice cream bars, and a fair beer selection. There is an ATM on site here too. The pizza inn usually has extra pizza at the end of the night (I recall from years ago) and you get them on the cheap after 10PM). The gas is usually about 2 cents higher here than the Food Fast, but it is most convenient. If you are rolling by anytime between 11:50PM and Midnight, you may want to detour to another store. They are usually on hold to "count the register." The bathroom is very accessible, when you walk in it is nearly center and to the right, past the coffee. Generally clean, it does offer paper towels and always has soap. They don't have any of the "DFW" small gas station stuff, like impulse buys, kratom, CBD gummies or any of that, but do have cigs and lotto, of course. The staff is always nice and fellow customers will hold the door. I always have to make at least one stop here when I come home.
