One employee was helping her and the other was on the phone. No one acknowledged me for a few minutes and finally the employee helping the other customer asked me if I was ready to check out. I said yes, and she rang me up. It was slightly awkward as I'd been standing there for a bit. Oh well. At first, I thought the employee was simply curious, and I was willing to explain its meaning. However, the comments and overall attitude quickly made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. I even tried to end the interaction on a positive note by offering a handshake, but it was refused. The employee's behavior came across as rude, dismissive, and hostile. As a Jewish customer, I left feeling that I was treated differently because of my faith. The interaction gave me the impression of antisemitism, or at the very least a lack of respect and tolerance toward Jewish people. No customer should ever be made to feel uncomfortable because of their religion.
