Took one of my cars to the dealership for an oil change from a promo. Was caught by surprise that the dealership mechanics told me that I needed several additional things done to the car, totaling over 3k. I figured dealerships must add a higher premium than local shops so brought the car to Jeff at the Chevron in South End, instead. After careful inspection of the car, Jeff could have easily made a fortune, but instead he took the high-route and concluded that he wouldn't have recommended any of the "fixes" that the dealership tried to scare me with. Turns out dealerships don't just rip off their customers, but also straight up lie to them. If you want an honest mechanic that serves the neighborhood, come to Jeff. I know where I will bring my cars for any problems in the future. read more

Poor customer service. I asked for help with putting air in my tire and they acted as if I was an Alien. The machine gave an error message and when I asked for my $2.50 back they gave me the owners business card. POOR POOR POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. read more

Had an urgent tire concern (at the time unsure if it was a mail or a slow leak). As I was headed out of town I was nervous on timing and seriousness; Jeff got me in same day and turned it around quickly. Not only did they get the 3 inch mail removed and repaired, as I had mentioned driving out of town he did a quick check on my oil and let me know it should probably be done soon. The light came on when I got back from that trip, and they were able to once again fit me in timely. Appreciate the quick service, convenience and reasonable cost. Would recommend and will continue to take my own vehicles there. read more

Beware of verbal price quotes! This shops gives verbal price quotes that are less than the actual cost of the repair. I called this Chevron station located on the south end of Mercer Island and asked how much they would charge for an oil change (giving them the make, model and year of my car). They said about $120. So, I made an appointment. When I dropped off my car, I asked about the charge for the oil change mentioning that the person who I spoke with on the phone said that it would be about $120. The manager of the shop said he was not sure about the charge but $120 "seemed high." When I returned to pick up my car, I was charged $141.47 (not including tax) for the oil change. For the replacement of my air filter, the technician quoted $35 for labor. The actual charge was $45 for labor. read more

Great old-fashioned neighborhood service station. Gasoline, propane gas (for your BBQ grill or RV), and basic car repair. We've had very good luck taking our cars in for basic repairs - brake jobs, scheduled maintenance, new shocks, tire installation, etc. We've been going there several years, always get good service at fair prices. read more

Pete and the crew are old school corner mechanics. Not warm and fuzzy but very competent. And despite a slight eye roll from time to time they are willing to dig into complicated projects. Pete, Brian and Jeff are innovative and knowledgeable and while Pete can come across as a bit of a curmudgeon stay with him and he'll loosen up. I like Pete's. Tire patches, oil changes, repairs, etc. It's great to go on the Island--I drop off the car and then walk home or wait at the starbucks next store. I've never had a bad experience there and have lived here 20 years. I'm pretty sure that is there ever was an issue that Pete himself would make it right. Also, I like that Pete's gave 20% of their revenue last year to Mercer Island Youth and Family services on Giving from the Heart Day. Very generous and community minded in my book! read more

Pete and his staff are great. I have been taking my cars here for over 20 years and have never had anything great work and very reasonable prices. Several times these guys have performed a minor repair or diagnostics at no charge. I like the way they communicate and usually are able to fit me in right away for minor stuff so I can get back on the road. read more

I've had consistently good service at Pete's over the years. I once asked them about a slow leak in my left front tire. Within a few minutes they had found a small nail, removed it, and plugged it at a reasonable price. Who else has 24hr free air with an accurate pressure gauge? I've taken plenty of the small projects that I didn't want to mess with at home to them. Sometimes it's done during a cup of coffee at Starbucks or some quick shopping at QFC. Otherwise, I can leave the car there and not worry about the logistics of taking it to Bellevue. read more

Wnarning !!! Do not have your car serviced here. A few months ago, My wife took our Honda to them with an obvious, spraying, coolant hose leak. $183 later the car was ready for pick up, $183 to replace a hose? There's more...last month, I noticed my heat was not working. I spent half a day researching, checking fuses, valves, actuator motors and then began flushing the radiator, changing the thermostat when I noticed a zip tie around one of the hoses. It was the input line to the heater core, the hose that South Mercer Chevron had replaced for $183. Instead of the mechanic cutting the hose to length, he looped and zip tied it, basically pinching it and killing the heater.... Intentional? Hoping for a return visit to fix my heater and charge another few hundred? Price today for a gallon of regular unleaded $3.39. Really? read more

Every time I stop in with a car problem they come and help me right away. They always go out of their way to help and it's much appreciated. They have nice fast service and great customer appriceation. Once my shocks broke and when I stopped in and had to leave my car over night the owner offered to let me borrow his car. Buyer beware!!! I was quoted $55 for an oil change, and was charged $114! Having just moved to the area, a couple of days ago I called and asked how much they charge for an oil change. I was asked to provide the year, make and model of the car, which I did. I was quoted $55, and eventhough I could get my oil change cheaper somewhere else, I decided to get it done there for the convenience. When I dropped my car off, they took my name, phone #, and the keys to my car, and said they would call me when my car was done. About an hour later, when I went to pick up my car and pay, I was charged $114. I was shocked to say the least, and when I inquired as to why it was more than double what I was quoted on the phone, I was told to deal with the techician. When the technician came out, he told me the oil cap in the car states it needs to be changed with synthetic oil, and that is why they put synthetic oil in the car (and charged me $114!). I was clearly mad, and told the technician that if he was going to put synthetic oil in my car, and charge me more than twice as much for an overpriced oil change in the first place, that he should have let me know. One of the technicians walking by even had the nerve to insinuate I was lying about calling and getting a price quote by saying : "they told you on the phone what the price was without seeing the car?" Well--yes!!!--Obviously, I have no control over who answers the phone calls in this business or what they choose to tell the customers, but, that is clearly the wrong thing to say to a customer that thinks you are trying to take advantage of her in the first place!! I was done! I paid and told them I would NOT be back. The employee that brought my car around steps out of my car, pops my hood open, and tells me again that he wanted to show me the cap! I told him once again that it didin't matter what the cap said--I had oil changes for 20+ years, and was asked if I wanted synthetic oil every time, as syntehic oil always costs more. I left. --And the Saga continues... About 10 minutes after I get home, I get a phone call from the service station again, and my husband takes the call this time. He was told instead of being charged for 6 quarts of oil, I was overcharged for 8 quarts of oil, and they owed me $19. When my husband asked if they were just going to refund the $19 back to my credit card, he was told they weren't sure how they were going to go about refunding the mischarge. The employee said they were going to have to check with the owner "tomorrow"? to see how they would refund us for the overcharge...Soooo what was the purpose of this phone call again? I have no idea! I know I will NEVER go back to this business for anything again. Not an oil change, not to buy gas, not even to use the free air pump. I would rather go somewhere else where they won't try to take advantage of me and treat me with the respect any paying customer deserves. read more
