Having visited eight in the last week, from Auburn AL and Pass Christian MS and across Texas), it's easy to see how formulaic they are and how they all have the same features. Located adjacent to a busy highway exit, it's easy to access and they don't allow tractor trailers so you're not dodging big trucks. Huge expansive parking lot that rings the whole store. Dozens if not a hundred gas pumps, all clean and free of litter. Multiple entrances with handicapped parking immediately in front of each one. Inside, you'll probably get a "Welcome to Buc-ee's!" as you enter. As you walk around the store, you'll maybe here a shouted "Fresh brisket on the board!" as a new piece of beef is set out for slicing. In the center, a sandwich station where they're making up tacos and sandwiches. There's an area where they are candying nuts. A fudge counter. A jerky counter. A handmade tortilla station. Bunkers with snacks and fresher foods like salads, sandwiches, protein packs, cups of banana pudding and coconut pie. A wall of soda fountains with two dozen options. Coffee and fixings. A third of the store is consumed with decor. Some of it is very much Buc-ee's merchandise with tshirts, swimsuits, hats, jackets and the like. A seasonal tshirt on display. And much of it is Southern styled decor with the occasional bible quote or some other risque and double entendre. Clean restrooms. No, really. They pay a $40k a year salary to people to keep the floors clean, the counters wiped, the paper towels stocked and the toilets clean. I have never seen a dirty Buc-ee's toilet in ever. There a reason Buc-ee's is a destination and they're working to come closer to you. I've been to Buc-ee's in ten states and they're expanding with new ones in Colorado, Ohio and Arizona opening recently. Go check it out! [Review 411 of 2026 - 720 in Texas - 25594 overall]

We really wanted to buy as much craft beer as we could find and Howdy Doody did not disappoint. Why and how did we end up there? We called ahead and ordered a few meals from Mr. Chopsticks so we could eat on when we got home the next day. After we went through the drive thru, we parked and walked over to Howdy Doody to check out their selection. For a small store, their selection of craft beer is amazing!!! Definitely wasn't expecting the amount that they had! We checked out the "craft beer" store near UNT and their selection was disappointing in comparison. If you want craft beer, go to Howdy Doody!

Their beer prices are kind of high - for craft can 6 packs, we usually pay $10. That said, the prices are pretty comparable to the beer prices at Midway, and Howdy Doody is easier to get in and out of. They don't always have what I am looking for, but they always have something that I like (something I cannot say for the nearby 7-11) when it comes to beer. PokéStop next door at Chopsticks, and a gym across the street at the doctor's office. The employees here are always pretty chill - no one is particularly friendly and I've never seen an employee out from behind the counter, but they are always nice, fast, and get the job done without issue. Overall, if I have the time, I go elsewhere for beer, but only because of the price. Otherwise, this is a neat little c-store in a great location.

BACKGROUND: This taco shop is fairly close to my work so easy decision to get food here if I'm short on time. Good Mexican food, definitely NOT Tex-Mex! FOOD Ok, being a recent refugee from CA to TX, I was told that Texas doesn't have good Mexican food. This is oft repeated in a FB group I'm part of, but one thing I noticed that most of these people don't live in the more ethnically diverse parts and getting their Mex at Tex Mex places. One of the great things about living in and around Denton is that there's a wealth of great mom and pop Mexican restaurants in the area. This place is no exception. I'd say my hands down favorite things to order here are the "street" tacos. Meaning they serve their tacos on a single smal chicanitas (small corn tortillas, maybe I butchered the spelling) and have a good choice of meats and vegetarian options. However there have been times some of my favorites weren't available, hence the minus star. They do though make one of the better al pastor tacos I've had in quite some time. And its consistently good, so there's a recommendation for you. I'm not too impressed by the lengua though. They also make a pretty good sopes as well. If you've never had a sopes, you're missing out. SALSA The family makes this excellent I mean EXCELLENT red salsa. I'm sure it has a name, but man it's really spicy (not gringo spicy) and has that nice semi chunky texture that I like. See my pic. GAS STATION While it may not look like it from the outside, you can drive around the back and get drive thru service. Never done it myself, but letting you guys know its available. If you go inside, its a decently stocked mini-market with adult beverages, soft beverages, and some general grocery items (no vegetables or fruit) like chips and other sundries. PO-PO JUST DOWN THE STREET/SAME BLOCK Pro tip: Don't do stupid s--t near this place. It is literally on the same block as the Denton Police station. They are always turning around the corner and down the street to park in their lot. RETURN VISIT? So far so good!

I had the distasteful experience of being admonished to move my car away from this store's dilapidated gas pumps--dilapidated being rather unexceptional for the store's state than otherwise--by an unappealing face-tattooed curmudgeon under threat of towing. I wouldn't have minded so much were it not for the fact that he started with the threat of towing rather than simply asking, and the apparent satisfaction he seemed to take from exercising an extremely petty power over me. Had he simply asked, directly, to please move my car, I would have done so. There was no need to threaten me in that way. Also, not for nothing, but in thirty-three years of life I have never once been asked to move my car from a gas pump. Not at chevron, texaco, shell, allsups, bucees; not during any long-distance travel along the interstate or local highways; not in small cities or big. This rule was never explained to me when I was working 2 years behind a busy gas station register myself. It was certainly not posted anywhere on this store's lot when I was abruptly demanded to move--why would it be? The store is not exactly turning over a high volume of traffic. I dunno. Maybe I'm wrong, but if I am, it's the very first time in my life I'm hearing about it. If you enjoy dim lights, long waits, broken equipment, hostile staff (taco shop not included), and a dilapidated ambiance, I recommend The Eagle Stop on North Texas and Prairie.

My friend got the bacon one ($1.50). Fairly basic: egg, sausage/bacon, cheese, tortilla. What made it so delicious was their aguacate salsa. A vat of that would make anything taste good--spicy but still avocado-ey. My friend went back again and ordered a pork taco, a beef taco & chicken nachos. She said both the tacos were tasty & filling--she went with the aguacate salsa again. The nachos on the other hand were mediocre (Velveeta style cheese, not enough sour cream, dry chicken) and she wouldn't order them again. I think she said the total was around $5. The selection at Eagle Stop Tacos is very limited but it's ridiculously cheap and yet tasty. I still need to go back for their elotes.

The prices there are sometimes a little high, compared to bigger stores, but the service, location, staff, selection, and convenience make it worth it. The same is all true for Midway Craft House. The new spot is clean and nice, has easy parking, and the staff is laid back and helpful (if not always exuberantly friendly). They've got lots of craft cans and bottles, cool craft sodas, and they fill growlers. I love growlers. I love beer. I like trying new things. But they usually have about 15 IPAs on tap, which means there isn't a lot of variety when it comes to kinds of beer. Craft beer and growler fillers must know that not all craft beer junkies want IPAs and wheat beers all the time. Growler fill pricing is totally reasonable and sometimes surprisingly low. That said, you can always check their website to see what they have on tap (and how much is left in the keg!) so you won't ever waste a trip or be surprised. Plus - if the taps don't meet my needs, the cans and bottles certainly will. This is also a good spot to sit and have a few beers. They've usually got good music playing, a cool person behind the bar who will let you try before you buy, and a nice seating area inside and another outdoors. If you want some good beer and a pleasant experience, check them out.
