Mac's is a gas station and convenience store with a grill, and they typically serve breakfast and lunch items. Inside Mac's, there are a couple of tables and a food counter in addition to the beverage coolers and shelves of packaged food and other convenience items. On the food counter, you'll find a hot box of breakfast or lunch sandwiches (depending on the time of day) and other assorted items such as ribs, corn dogs and onion rings. My co-workers had recommended the cheeseburger and onion rings, but I was on this crazy respecting-my-gallbladder kick last week, so I only got the cheeseburger "all the way." "All the way" for Mac's turned out to be a ring of white onion, mustard, mayo, a tomato slice, and a piece lettuce. They bagged my burger up, and I headed back to my office, which is one block over. By the time I got to my office, the burger had greased through the bag as well as the paper in which it was wrapped, which is always an indicator of fine dining yet to come. I'd love to be able to say that I savored the complementary flavors of the cheeseburger toppings as they graced my palate, but the truth is: I grabbed this burger with both hands and devoured it in short order. The juicy burger, grilled bun, and crisp toppings plus a bag of Doritos were the perfect laid-back lunch for a Friday. If you are in need of a quick meal while downtown for business or a trip to the hospital, I recommend the cheeseburger at Mac's 1 Stop.

Sides include French fries and onion rings with deli food like chicken salad is available. On every Wednesday, the chef offers a Southern cuisine menu that changes week by week. They serve the special from 11-2 or until they sell out. They provide the option to call in, stop by to prepay, or walk-in based on what's available after pre-orders. Today's soul food menu consisted of baked chicken over rice, collard greens, macaroni and cheese and cornbread for $14.99. The portions size was huge, enough to eat twice from the plate. The food was served in Styrofoam plates with dividers with individual wrapped utensils and salt & pepper packets. Condiments were available as well. Drink was not included, but since the location is inside a gas station, there was many options to choose from. The baked chicken was a chicken breast that was bigger than the size of my hand. The chicken was so moist and tender, which made it easier to chew. Gravy was poured on top of the seasoned, fluffy yellow rice and went perfect for the entire dish. The greens are full of flavor and pair so well with the semi-sweet cornbread square. The macaroni and cheese was not as moist and cheesy as I would like but I eat it and enjoyed. That being said as it gets later, this location seems to have a fair number of people hanging out in the parking lot area. Not exceptionally well lit either. I haven't had any problems here but it does give you a little bit of an uneasy feeling. The location is great especially if you are looking for a quick easy place for a fill up. Very conveniently located to hop on the highway or grab gas before going into Birmingham. Prices are reasonable and on par with everyone else in the area. Works in a pinch, but I would opt for other locations typically, unless my gas light was on or in danger of coming on soon.

Both the parking lot and store are always dirty and I've had the cashier literally drop my wine or beer several times while scanning my purchases. The cashier rarely ever makes eye contact with you and an actual salutation is rare, the conversation is non-existent. As a matter of fact, the only reason I even come to this location anymore is because they're open 24 hours and it's not even half a mile from my home.

They are always very professional. If you want to try them out, call them for an appointment first. It is best to drop off your car and let them call you when it is ready. Because of covid, they attempt to be safe, and the customer lounge is not always available. In a day and age that everything cost more, and you still get less. Etheridge still does an outstanding job.
