She walked back around inside when she saw us pull up, and the bathroom was locked. So I went inside and literally begged the lady to unlock the bathroom so that we could use it, because the bathroom has apparently closed at 9 (weird when she was using it when we literally pulled up). We have been driving for four hours and still had another two to go. Tried the shell across the street and their bathroom was out of service. So this was one of the last places we could go to (and are now literally in pain trying to find another bathroom). I told her all this and she very rudely said okay and walked around to go unlock the bathroom. She puts the key in, jiggles it, and then walks away. I pull the door and it is still locked. We just left then because there was no getting anywhere with that situation. So, please patron somewhere else because that was just a rude, terrible experience, considering we even topped off our tank there to be nice and not just use the bathroom. I can understand not having the bathroom open because of sanitation reasons, but to pretend to unlock the door was just beyond unbelievable, especially considering that I had not been rude, or demanding, really just pleading. So go to the racetrac instead, it's just a little ways over and probably much cleaner than Murphy bathroom anyways.

I can save a few bucks per tank here because of that, not to mention that gas prices here run a little lower anyway than most places nearby. Cigarettes are under 5 bucks usually, which is also a plus. Tons of pumps so its never crowded or crazy to get in and out of, and a broad variety of items you'd not expect to find at a gas station. Need a deer skin rug? A wooden rocking chair? A locally made take and bake casserole? Local candies and or fudge? A wide enough variety of cheese and wine to put together a nice charcuterie board at home on the fly? And wait....wait....wait a minute....think about this for a second....they have over 50 beer taps and will sell you a pint, a quart, a half gallon or a gallon of whatever you need and the prices are very competitive. Oh yeah...I forgot to mention that there's a permanently attached BBQ truck that sits next to it in the parking lot...so yeah. Just soak all that in and remember that we're talking about a gas station. Super clean bathrooms, nice people behind the counter, great prices all around, and beer, wine and cheese 24 hours a day, (except when its too late to buy the alcohol). Reviewing a gas station may seem a bit odd, but I think this one deserves it. Whoever dreamed this place up is way ahead of the times when it comes to what you expect from a gas station. Hopefully they'll set a trend and more and more places will follow suit. If you're over the mountain, and snobby about your beer, the place is a godsend. When I moved here from downtown, I was genuinely distraught at the notion that I might have to drive across town to really get the good brews. Cowboy's made my worries about that go away. They serve the special from 11-2 or until they sell out. They provide the option to call in, stop by to prepay, or walk-in based on what's available after pre-orders. Today's soul food menu consisted of baked chicken over rice, collard greens, macaroni and cheese and cornbread for $14.99. The portions size was huge, enough to eat twice from the plate. The food was served in Styrofoam plates with dividers with individual wrapped utensils and salt & pepper packets. Condiments were available as well. Drink was not included, but since the location is inside a gas station, there was many options to choose from. The baked chicken was a chicken breast that was bigger than the size of my hand. The chicken was so moist and tender, which made it easier to chew. Gravy was poured on top of the seasoned, fluffy yellow rice and went perfect for the entire dish. The greens are full of flavor and pair so well with the semi-sweet cornbread square. The macaroni and cheese was not as moist and cheesy as I would like but I eat it and enjoyed. Overall, the place receives a 5/5 for me. I'll be back to try a grilled lunch item next! -DASC
