TERRIBLE experience this past weekend when I attended the Lee Brice concert. The staff were incredibly ignorant and out of control. My friends and I were told multiple to be quiet and that we were being too loud while singing at a CONCERT. My husband tried multiple time to speak the staff member BARBARA in a calm and reasonable manner to which she continued to degrade him and us and even suggest that he stepped on her foot on purpose, she screamed YOU DID THAT ON PURPOSE. Mind you she was in our space, coming closely on many occasions to yell and scream at us that we were too loud. We were doing the same as every other guest. Singing and having fun. Eventually it got so bad that I decided to leave with my husband fearing what she would do next. DO NOT attend a concert or show here if you intend to have fun or sing to your favorite artists. Enjoyed a night of comedy with Michelle Buteau! There was a DJ on for an hour before the show. He was engaging and fun. The audience had a great time before Michelle Buteau came on stage. She was authentic and real, fired up and delivered a great show. read more

Had an awesome time here watching Zarna Garg stand up comedian last night! Great way to spend New Year's Eve with lots of laughter! She is so funny! First time at the Chevalier theater. We only bought tickets the day of and were able to get Orchestra right row Y seats which was not too bad at all. We had an aisle seat so it was convenient to get to but not so much when others had to go in and out. Sound quality was good and we could see the comedian well from our seats. Really fun show. Parking was easy in the lot behind the City hall and free. Only a short 5 minute walk to the theater. Very convenient. The lobby is not too big, there is a concession stand though we didn't get any. Restrooms and water fountains are on either side. I like that they have water fountains so you don't have to buy water. Tip: they check bags and if you have bottled water or drinks they make you pour them outside before entering. So I had to pour off the water from my bottle but was able to fill it inside at the water fountain. There were 3 sets of checkers so the line went fast and wasn't much of a wait. Seats were comfortable for the almost 2 hour duration we were there. Overall great experience! read more

They should rename it the Chevalier Auditorium! Graciously wider seats than the Wilbur, but hard as a rock. The acoustics were horrible and the pitch of the seats so low that you couldn't see the performer...the former school property is fine when you are a high school student trying to ignore the principal speaking at assembly. Impossible to see the talent except on the huge screen above her. Will not attend another performance there. read more

I personally prefer this theatre to the ones in boston, particularly due to its ease of access than getting through the boston traffic/cold. The space is a lot larger and more accommodating as well. Saw Jimmy O Yang. Wish their drink and food options were a bit better, varied, and more reasonably priced. read more

We went up to see the incomparable Buddy Guy and Eric Gales. What a great show!!! This was our first time at the Chevalier Theater. I purchased our usual accessible seating. When we pulled up to the theater, we were surprised to find that there was handicapped parking right next to the building and in front of the side entrance where the elevator was. (Other venues that we've been to don't have the parking or ramps that my husband needs to get in and is a bit difficult.) The theater is beautiful, as are all the old ones. Our seats were located at the back of the first section on the aisle. As his companion I had a theatre seat as he had his wheelchair. We were close to the stage and quite comfortable. They offer drinks and snacks in the lobby area. They don't allow outdoor refreshments. But that's ok, it's a non profit establishment and we know how important it is to keep these old theaters open and offering the best in entertainment. All in all it was a fabulous night filled with the best of the blues!!! read more

We came here for the Gazillion bubble show. The theater itself does not have parking, but I parked a bit down Forest. It's an older theater, but we were able to have a great view from row P in the left orchestra. My 5 year old did fine in the seats. The rows are very close together which is my only complaint. I thought the staff were very helpful in getting everyone inside and to their seats. They have concessions but we didn't buy anything. Nice to have this so close and not in Boston proper! read more

We went to see a comedy show there and the staff took away from the experience. First, you can't seat yourself, even if you've already been seated and know where to go. You're told to stop by what seems to be a random person. None of the staff are identifiable. They don't have a uniform. Is it much to get your staff matching shirts? We sat near a side door and they were loud and disruptive. There was an older woman staff member who kept shaking a cup that had ice in it. That same woman would go up to people taking their phones out for a few seconds, kick them out, argue outside the door, and they'd come back in. I've never been more distracted in my life. read more

Better to just stay at home and shine a flashlight in your eyes, save your money if you enjoy this, they don't put light on the performers they just shine light in the eyes of the spectators! I like that there is a theatre near by that has well Known artists. It's small and intimate but worth it if you are in the area. Also the box office sells tickets which eliminates the additional online fees. A few things to note the second floor bar area gets really busy so make sure to get your drink First and then find your seat! read more

I really didn't love the show or the venue, but this rating is about the venue. They took my water bottle when I was entering the venue, but then it was impossible to buy another one because the line for drinks was so long. The show started 20 minutes late though, so I guess we could have actually waited in line. The seats are very old with poor visibility. Considering how expensive the tickets were, I was surprised by the overall quality of the place. But the worst part? The other audience members. We were seeing a play and people kept leaving throughout the show. The couple infront of me was having a fight and kept taking their phone out. It was so distracting so I missed most of the show. And none of the ushers did anything to stop the nonsense! read more

Saw the Drag Queen Christmas show there and it was great! Not a huge venue so everyone can see what's happening on stage but I recommend the balcony! We were second row on the aisle on the right side and it was awesome! You could see perfectly. When the lights went down we moved to front row because no one was sitting there. Lisa and Kay working in the balcony were the best! Such nice ladies and it looked like they enjoyed their job which made for a more pleasant experience. They wouldn't let me tip them but I wanted to make sure I mentioned how great they were! read more

My husband and I go to a lot of comedy shows, and some days you just don't feel like trudging to Boston and searching for a parking space and fighting crowds to sit in a cramped space. I like this venue and am glad when I see a show here. It takes us about the same amount of time to get to the location, but I find the parking less stressful. The other thing I like is that I have not had a bad seat in this house (granted I have not been waaaay up but have been in the balcony). Also, it is not as packed and cramped as some other Boston venues. read more

I appreciate the big name talent that comes to this venue. I've seen The Temptations, Patti LaBelle, Michael Feinstein, Buddy Guy, Samantha Fish, Gladys Knight and others. Parking can be difficult to find but my friend always manages to find a free spot close by. Am looking forward to seeing Buddy Guy again at Chevalier Theatre for his farewell tour. read more

Just went to the Chevalier for the first time to see Sal Volcano from the Impractical Jokers do stand up comedy. It's a nice theatre style room with a capacity of about 1800. The seats were comfortable, but narrow like most old theatre seats. Bathroom (mens room) was very narrow, but had a lot of urinals, stalls and sinks for its size. There was also an attendant on hand making sure things stayed clean. I did not goto the bar/concession stand mostly because the line was so long and always seems to move slow in places like this. Having a separate alcohol only line might speed things up for people looking for a snack or water. My main issue with the theatre is the event was advertised as MASKS REQUIRED and it was posted outside and in multiple places inside the theatre. There were ushers to help people find their seats, but much of the crowd removed their masks once seated and nothing was said to them by security or the ushers. I wore my mask, but sitting in such close quarters it would have been nice if other people did the same by choice or if the theatre staff enforces the posted rules. Parking is another big issue in this area. I don't know it will so there could be better options, but the theatre itself doesn't seem to have any public parking. We paid $30 to park in what basically seemed to be someone's driveway. It was easy in and out, but it was still a bummer for the theatre to offer no free parking options. I would go back to this spot for another event I was really interested in, but hopefully when that time comes masks will no longer be an issue. Thanks for reading!! read more

Went in 2019 to see the Comedy Bang Bang tour. While the show itself was great, I could barely enjoy it due to the venue. If it feels like it has all the amenities of a 1950s high school auditorium, it is because that is exactly what it is and has not been updated much since. Seats are small and uncomfortable. The exits are limited. Bathrooms are far. But I could have put up with all of that if it hadn't been for the temperature. The show was in august and there was no air conditioning. It was absolutely brutal. I left drenched in sweat. I was literally wiping it from my face to keep it from stinging my eyes. By the end of the show I was begging God for it to be done because I thought I might pass out. The space has potential, and I love what it brings to downtown Medford, but without an overhaul, it is a miserable place to see a show. read more

Very disappointed experiencing theatre for first time tonight. Parking is a nightmare, followed signs as directed yet lots full ( 1 hr before show). Very disorganized in getting people into the building. .... Seating ..... we had balcony seats...... seemed endless getting to the balcony with many people needing to stop along the way... Could better prepare those who are physically challenged or out of shape. Now comes seating.... Small chairs not for the vertically or horizontally challenged. Only way I could even see performer was on the screen. Obviously orchestra area may have been quite enjoyable and I would recommend not even using the balcony for a show like Theresa Caputo where she does not stay on stage. Venue not responsible for audience and we were surrounded by annoying individuals who were up and down, on their phones, Can't imagine purchasing tickets for this venue again.... read more

Tonight was not my first time at this theater. It's a beautiful theater, although the elements inside the theater are quite disorganized, especially when it comes to seating people and yelling at people to get back in their seats and don't stand in the aisle. Meanwhile, were pretty much several hundred of them standing upfront in the is typically what happens at an Air Supply show . Plus I always sit in the same seat and so many coming in and out and walking in front of us. It was actually quite obnoxious like nobody wanted just to sit in and enjoy the show up.towards the end of the show everyone rushes the had the lady chasing after everybody and yelling and telling them get back to your seat get out of the aisle, but she should've instead of randomly telling people she should've just said all right everybody back to their that never would've happened though because nobody would've listened but it's just very kind of disheartening. I mean I know that they take the job to heart, but you're literally chasing after people and it doesn't really make for a pleasant experience I was pretty much observing it the whole show and then I experienced it towards the end. I mean, I love air supply and I will always go, but I was just disappointed in the atmosphere. you couldn't enjoy the show because you felt like you were on pins and needles.I guess an organized chaos you would call it tonight. read more

This is the worst case scenario for a venue. There's no subway to here, and driving to Medford from anywhere but Somerville is a nightmare. It's actually the old Medford High School theater--the seats are uncomfortable and the sight lines are awful. The sound booth is in the middle of the room and if you're at all behind it there are blinding lights coming off it. The sound and light techs don't seem to know what they are doing and there was constant feedback, or speakers in the show I saw were different levels, or the lights were wrong. I have never been to a worse venue, and I've been to theaters in South Dakota. read more

First off, website directs you to park by city hall. There are theater parking signs at entrances of the lot but after that you're left to wonder where to park as there are many signs saying permit holders only. It is about a 7 minute walk to the theater from there. Once at the theater, there is the typical cue for security. I had my bag open and ready, the person barely glanced in it and waived me along. One person in my group had the security guy quickly wave the wand over him. Once we got inside for the concert, we were greeted by a screaming usher herding us out of the theater and back into the hallway scolding us for not waiting, which we were unaware that we needed to? Usually, one stops at the top of the aisle to have an usher direct you, but ok? Seats are tight, floor is sloped but only slightly, if someone in front of you is taller your view will be obstructed. At times people started leaving their assigned seats freely going down to the front to be closer the stage, standing in the aisles blocking the first 8 rows or so. No attempt was made to keep the aisles clear for safety purposes. We attempted to go to the restroom between sets which is in the crowded lobby, merchandise area and exit, but gave up as it was so crowded. The entire evening felt like a giant safety hazard. The bands were great ( Toad the Wet Sprocket/ Gin Blossoms) but hopefully will choose a different venue on their next trip through Massachusetts! read more

September 26, 2023 While highly anticipating the words and spirit of Jane Goodall (and more than delighted with her content), the production decisions and venue were both lacking. The event began 30 minutes late, for the apparent reason that merch was moving well. There was no reason provided nor updating announcement to the audience for the cause of the delay. The seating (1970 High School Auditorium style) was uncomfortable and the angle in the balcony too flat to get an unobstructed view of Ms. Goodall. It was nice that the air conditioning came on for a bit. With a hearing problem (and did not expect accommodation), Ms. Goodall is soft-spoken and the audio was consistent, but low. I only missed 25%. While there were two screens available on which to project Ms. Goodall while speaking, the organizers did not deem it necessary. Hence, the largest disappointment of the evening, I did not get to see her face. Would have been happy to have spent twice as much for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with reasonable accommodation. Now "one and done" with Chevalier. read more

I came here to watch Aziz Ansari perform on his Road to Nowhere Tour. I wasn't impressed by this venue at all. It's old, small, and clearly not made for the capacity that they're using it for. We showed up at 7:15 for our 7:30 show and waited in line for probably 30 minutes in freezing 30ish degree weather before we could get in. They check your IDs outside and give you a bracelet if you want to be able to purchase alcohol inside. The interior inside is very small, antiquated, outdated and they badly need to remodel or rebuild. Their lobby for drinks and snacks is a joke and was a chaotic jumbled mess and was simply too crowded to even try. When I finally arrived to the entrance of the auditorium, at the front, there was a station where every patron was required to turn in their phone so that it could be placed in a locked bag contraption so that we wouldn't be able to use our phones during the show at all and if we want to use our phone we would have to exit the room and ask them to unlock it. They mentioned this when buying the tickets but it was still really annoying I've never had other venues do this before. We sat in the balcony and our view was pretty terrible. We could barely see the head of the performers and only the back half of the stage and we paid nearly $80 each for these seats. The ushers here aren't great and are aggressive. The numbering and layout of the place is very confusing so they were barking everyone around and getting frustrated if you don't understand what they're saying the first time. Overall I really enjoyed the show, but the venue is absolutely horrendous and I definitely won't come watch any shows here anymore. After the show was over it took forever to get out since first everybody had to get their phone unlocked and second everybody had to get through their tiny front doors. read more

I was here for The Monkee's Show on Saturday 10/30/21. My only complaint is this, I was sitting in the second row, no seating in front of me. Just as the show started, they came over, dropped two folding chairs in front of us, now keep in mind, these chairs were a bit higher than the venue seating, and the tallest people in the place were dropped right there in front of us. I had trouble seeing the stage despite the location of the seating. Advise? if the venue seating is not in place, do not sell the tickets....that was not right....other than that, great show! For me, this all boils down to 2 challenges. 1a. Why, oh why, are there so few doors open for exiting at the end of a show? It's slow moving. Took us foreverrrrr to walk out of the venue, which it really felt unnecessary. There were closed EXIT doors everywhere but staff would not let people by/open them. 1b. The entrance was also pretty disorganized. So many lines: for concession, for swag table, for entry, and no one was there to direct people. 1c. Warning: DO NOT JUST JOIN THE LINE if you got tix online. You need to walk around the right side of the building for them. The only person walking the line and sharing information was someone from a "Drink App" for $2 your very expensive drink. 2. Somehow my friend paid $47 for 2 drinks. Ahem... Otherwise, I thought sound, lightning and overall seat comfort were just great. (Saw the Rachel Bloom show on Saturday. She was great, too!) read more

No frills theater. Balcony seating had a good viewing angle, the acoustics in the room was good. Upstairs bar wasn't too busy, but only time you'd get a drink is at the beginning of the show if the show doesn't have an intermission. Security check is outside before you get into the venue, so that part will suck if it's the weather is bad. The line did move fairly quick. There's no real designated parking, so nothing against the theater for that. You can find some street parking if you go early enough, but it's kind of a crap shoot. read more

We saw Celtic Thunder here last night, and while the artists were incredible, the overall experience at the venue was... just okay, bordering on highly uncomfortable. The seats in the balcony are wood with no cushion at all, and while portable cushions are available, you'd need three or four of them for them not to be completely flat within minutes. The seats are also fairly close together and if you're a bigger person yourself, or seated next to someone who is, there isn't a ton of room. We did sit in the seats on the orchestra level for a VIP event after the show and those were marginally better than the balcony. The sight line even in the front row of the balcony was suitable enough for me, but my mom, being several inches shorter than me, had to look between the rail and the top of the balcony in order to see most of the stage. There was a screen showing the stage, but who wants to pay that kind of money to watch a screen all night? Most of the staff was fine, but there was also an employee with a severe case of small man syndrome in the lobby before the show started who screamed at me for... standing unobtrusively in the lobby waiting for my mom while she was at the merch booth. Overall, I do not regret attending the show because the artists were fantastic, but I'd have to really want to see someone in order to buy tickets at this venue again. read more

Wasn't really a fan, I came here to see a Gipsy Kings concert and the sound was horrible. We were in the back orchestra section and there is a ceiling partition/overhang that I think is what affects the sound, it's probably better to sit closer to the stage where it's unobstructed. The view was ok but nothing to write home about. Parking is a nightmare, there are limited on-street spots that are free and then you can pay $30 to park in the small lot next door. Only problem is that if you do go with that option, you have to wait for other people to move their cars if you're at the back or sides because there's no other way to get out, it's like Parking Jenga. I will definitely agree with other reviewers that the lobby is very tiny and cramped, I didn't buy a drink but saw others complaining about the process. Bathrooms are only on the first floor. I will say that the leg room is more generous than other Boston area venues, especially the older ones. It's also nice to see preservation of local historic theaters. While I thoroughly enjoyed the show I saw, I can only say the exact opposite about this venue. Parking is a joke, the city of Medford should be embarrassed. Seating is so narrow that pre teens will get bruised trying to squeeze into them. I even saw one broken chair that appeared to be fixed with a hanger. Acoustics are ok but not great. Great idea in theory, but unfortunately a terrible venue. The seats are unbelievably cramped, especially if you are tall or wide. You will be on top of your neighbors, and will probably leave feeling some kind of soreness. There is no rise at all, so you'll spend a lot of time staring at the head in front of you. On Saturday my friends and I went to the Chevalier theater for a concert. We had to be there early for a meet and greet and had been there for a few hours. My friend and I were thirsty and in line to get some drinks and a snack. The bar tender was so rude , by yelling at us to back up ...because "we were about to give the bar tenders anxiety" If it bothers you when people are at the bar, waiting in line , your in the wrong profession hunny ! We were not being obnoxious. we were standing in line waiting for them To open. It was extremely rude and uncalled for. It's too bad because the ushers were amazing and very nice ! we had pretty awesome seats too! Ps can you at least refrigerate your $5 water ? read more

Well, this was a well-thought out idea that had no decent execution. I went to a comedy show here and was in the upper balcony. The seats were $60 with fees. I have been to many shows in many older venues in Worcester, Boston, and NYC. But this was the worst of them all. This is an old high school auditorium that was converted to a theatre. Except I don't think there was any renovation. The seats are hard. The air coordination is poor. The acoustics are poor in the back of the balcony. Even the flow of people into the building isn't well thought out. There is a lot of potential here, but the owners here need to put some thought into it, and some money too. I won't see another show here, no matter what great act he or she is. read more

I'm only giving 1 star because I can't give 0. I can't believe a talented group like Celtic thunder had to sing in this venue. The acoustics made it difficult to understand what they were saying and singing. The venue says handicap accessible. Plan to wait in line for 1 elevator and be asphyxiated buy the bus fumes in Parking lot. Because of 1 elevator your likely to miss beginning of the show like we did. There is no parking for attendees on the parking lot and unless your there hours early limited street parking . The seating leaves a lot to be desired. Limited space. Bad sight lines. Luckily orchestra seats had monitor in back if I wanted to watch a monitor I would have watched at home. I don't understand why this is an acceptable venue. It does a disservice to the talent and those of us who paid good money to see the dhow. The venue ruined the total experience I will never go there again !!!!totally disgusted ! I rarely write reviews but felt compelled to do so, because I'd read so many negative reviews of this place when I was contemplating going to a show here. I showed up bracing myself for the worst but ended up being pleasantly surprised! To address specifics - 1) that it's hot inside the theather. The show was in October but I dressed in light layers just in case and were totally comfortable. 2) speaking of comfort, yes the balcony chairs are hard wooden ones but we weren't bothered at all 3) the line outside. We arrived at about 7:45 for an 8:00 show and we were inside in just a couple of minutes. While we were in line, we were handed cards for the Noble app, which we could and did use to order drinks ahead and just pick them up. Great convenience! I think we paid $20ish for a beer and mixed drink. The ushers were super helpful and friendly in showing us to our seats. The balcony level is a hike so if stairs aren't your thing, sit down below, because that's where the bathrooms are. But there's a bar on each level. The acoustics seemed fine to us. We had no issues getting out after the show. Parking around there is rough - there was a lot next door that must not have opened until closer to the show because it wasn't open when I was looking for parking a couple of hours earlier. I'd ended up parking across the river and crossed the footbridge that lets out in front of Salvatore's, where we had a great dinner/drinks. In summary, it's not the Wang, so don't go expecting the Wang. It's a little old theater but the tickets were cheap and we made a fun night of it. read more

Thank god I bought 2 tickets and my sister was too sick to join me - I was able to stretch one of my legs out into the area where she would have been sitting! Also prepare to pay $30 for parking in a private lot nearby unless you are lucky enough to find street parking on the tiny chaotic street outside.
