From the moment I called to ask about a vehicle on their lot, I could tell that Chet's valued my business. I had anxiety about getting a new car- so many decisions- but Chet's listened and was gracious and kind throughout the process. There are so many things in life that kick ass when you are a female: guys buy us drinks at bars, our average life span is longer, and our wardrobe choices are infinitely more awesome than our male counterparts. But getting good car repair without getting ripped off? Totally not on that list. This is why, despite living 30 minutes away and having a plethora of garages between here and there, I still truck my little car out to Standish to see the guys at Chets. Sometimes, it's easier to tell you how rad a place is, by telling you how rad their competitors are not. Since I'm not one to leave negative comments on businesses, let's call the alternative shop Suck-It Auto Repair (or SIAR for short). Because my car only needed a sticker, we decided to just pop into SIAR because it was so close to the house, and hey - it's just a sticker, right? Really, I should have known better. SIAR failed me, claiming my brakes "felt soft" and it could possibly be that this thingamajig was worn or that dohickey over there might be frozen, and it might cost close to $300 to fix. OR for just $59 they could get in there and take the brakes apart and give me a solid answer about what was wrong. Umm, yeah, no thanks. So I call Chets. Since I was going to be gone for a long weekend, I just dropped it off on Saturday and told them I would be back to get it on Wednesday. They have a key drop where you can leave your keys and a note with what you need fixed in case you arrive after hours. I instructed them to fix anything that was wrong with my brakes, do an oil change and to give me a sticker. On Wednesday, I went to get my vehicle and survey the financial damage. There was not a single thing wrong with my brakes. They took apart what they needed to, and took it for a test drive to be sure. Nothing was freezing, over heating, or needed replacing. They then did my oil change and inspection and billed me a whopping $49 and some odd cents. And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why I only go to Chets. Please make special note that I blindly trusted them with a blanketed "fix anything in the brakes that need a fixin'". Seriously, that's like an open invitation to rip me off. They could have told me that there was an issue with my flux capacitor and they had to reverse the polarity of my neutron flow, and I would have just nodded dumbly while pulling out my checkbook. But they didn't. And they wouldn't. Because Chets kicks ass over all things that have ever kicked ass before. If you are within an hour drive, you'd be foolish to attempt to trust another place. (Side note: they aren't super great at calling you once your car is done. I mean, they will call to get permission if they need to do something unexpected, but generally they fix what you ask them too and that's it. But don't fret! You now know this in advance, so take the initiative and call them around the time they estimated it to be done! ) read more
