On June 11th, I made an appointment for myself and two friends Brie and Tim to be treated at 12:00 at the spa in Chetola at noon on June 18th. I did have specific request for a therapist as I have been here many times prior and enjoyed being treated by Tracy. When I made my appointment, I had them look at my prior history to verify that she was still available and that I would be treated by her. Brie didn't have a specific request as far as a male or female therapist. Tim had requested a female therapist. On June 18th at precisely noon, Brie was taken directly to her appointment. My other friend and I waited another 15 minutes before somebody came out to take Tim back. It was Tracy...the therapist that I had requested. This left me with the male therapist, which I refuse to use after a very bad experience at a different spa. At this point, Brie was 15 minutes into her appointment, so there was not a way to change therapists, and the best way that I could see to resolve the situation was to give up my therapy session so that my friends could still enjoy their day. A manager came out, apologized to me and and explained that the system had changed so that there was no way to specifically request a certain therapist anymore. This confused me, as I literally just made my appointment a week ago and had there been a change to the system. I would've expected a phone call, explaining that our requests could no longer be met. I also explained that had we all been taken in on time, this issue could've been resolved, by arranging everyone as was originally agreed on with my first phone call when making the appointment. However, because two of our therapists were running 15 minutes behind this was not possible. It took a further 20 minutes for Tim to start his massage. I was told "Thank you for understanding" with no compensation offered. The therapist that I had specifically requested was completely booked for the day, and the point of this particular booking was for us to go in as a group so that we can enjoy our day. In short, I am very disappointed Chetola's lack of communication, service, and lack of compensation for my disappointing day. read more

My fiancé and I came up to blowing rock for his 40th birthday. I got us couple massages. The massage was absolutely horrible. It was painful and not relaxing at all. The guy who massaged me was rough and not professional. My fiancés massage wasn't as bad as mine but it was just an awful experience. They were quick to finish just to clean the room and get us out of there. For 300.00 dollars for only 50 mins plus 60.00 for tip my massage should have been amazing! Phenomenal massage and excellent service at the spa! I have a bunch of issues and they know how to help me relax. Definitely get there early and check in to enjoy the tea bar and the robes. Quiet rules apply for the waiting room. I also suggest bringing a swimming suit for after your massage. You can swim and eat there even if you are not staying in the hotel. Food is good too. Order it delivered to the spa and you have a relaxing day. read more

My wife had a massage today at this spa. The facility is fine but the massage given by Tracy was absolutely wonderful. My wife gets regular massages at home and most always when we travel and said Tracy was probably one of the very best masseuses she has experienced. This little "day spa" was not what I was expecting, for several reasons. I would give fewer stars for the facility itself, but the services were pretty good, so I gave it 4 stars. Upon finding it, you need to walk down some stairs behind the building (which has the feel that you're walking into a basement) where you will find a large indoor pool and jacuzzi that feels like you are at a community rec area. We showed up around 11am on a Wednesday and were pleased to find we had the pool to ourselves. At first we missed the spa entrance itself, it is an unassuming door to the left as soon as you walk into the pool area, and then you walk into a small reception area that shares the space with the hair and nail salon. I was not impressed by the girl that showed me in to the "lounge", she was very vague and even when I shared that this was my first time at this place she quickly pointed out the locker room, beverage area, and treatment rooms all without moving from the spot where she stood. I had to go find her again when I realized I needed to obtain a key for the lockers in the locker room, which is also a small and no-frills area. I would say my favorite part of the "lounge" area was the tea they provided from Asheville Tea Company, and the Architectural Digest they had sitting on the coffee table. We arrived early so we could relax in the jacuzzi before our services. The pool area is nothing fancy, again feeling like a family rec area (luckily there were no kids that day) which was outdated and basic. It felt like walking into a 70's era movie set for a family resort. Anyways, it was clean and the water was well-maintained. There was a dry sauna available too but we didn't use it. It was nice having the pool area to ourselves. Now, for all of the shortcomings of the facility itself, my massage and my pedicure were pretty amazing. Tracy did a phenomenal job on my deep tissue massage, she was very professional and thorough. Charris(sp?) did my pedicure and I do not say this lightly: It was the best pedicure I have ever received. She did my nails perfectly. That is hard to do. So in conclusion: If you're looking for a luxury world-class spa experience, this is not it. If you are looking for good "spa" treatments at a fair price, then you'll enjoy this. read more

I've been to Blowing Rock many times over the past few years, but this was my first time using any service at Chetola. The entrance and setting are stunning. It took my a bit of walking and asking to find the spa, which is tucked away next to a beautiful indoor pool. But I enjoyed wandering around the historic buildings. I was in serious need of some neck and back relief, and this place did not disappoint. I don't recall her name, but my masseuse was very skilled and I left feeling much better. Extremely accommodating front desk; ease of booking and check in was above expectations. I knew from a quick look at their online info that I was going for their services, not for the relaxation room/sauna/hot tub. Relaxation room was cute and cozy and could be a nice place to read by the fireplace! Had a facial (10 of 10 for quality; all Eminence products and extremely impressed by Heather!) - purchased a product from very kind and no pressure staff! Skin reacted so well and is glowing! Also had a massage with scalp enhancement-- one of the most balanced massages as every part of my body is more relaxed. Massage included chatting and was friendly (which I like) and am sure they follow your lead of whether you prefer silent vs. welcoming! Highly recommend for those staying on property for the service quality! read more

This spa was a disappointment. It was not really a spa. It has only 5 rooms for services, the waiting room is not very nice. The massage I got there was not worth what I paid. When checking out, the young girl was so busy texting she took forever to check us out. When we asked about ordering lunch and relaxing they laughed at us. The pool/spa is the one all guest use- so its not comfortable going out and chatting in robes. I would not call this place a spa. Its more like a massage and go. read more

I was so disappointed with the pre-arrival experience, that I cancelled my appointment. I was contacted to provide a credit card for my appointment. I was not in a convenient place and said that I would call them back with the information. I was told that I was being given "fair warning" that I would lose my appointment if I didn't call back soon. This spa is barely a spa. The message and facial that I had here was Ok and not great. The locker rooms are very small and only have 6 lockers, also the staffing here is small with only about 6-8 people which can make it difficult. When they say that they have a pool, hot tub, and sauna you think it would be in the spa, but anyone can use it and it is very loud due to the use of small screaming children. My husband and I showed up at the spa today expecting to each receive a massage. I had booked the massages about a week and a half in advance, over the phone, after sending an email. It was mentioned both on the phone and in the email (see screenshot photo of email) that I am pregnant. After filling out the paperwork, where I also mentioned that I was pregnant, waiting in the lounge for an hour, and entering the massage room, only to find out that I was not able to receive a massage due to me being early in the pregnancy. The masseuse had to verify with the woman in charge, who said it was not allowed. I asked why I was not told this on the phone when I booked. The woman stated that she was the one who took the phone call and "didn't remember" my mentioning of the pregnancy. I then said I had also sent an email mentioning it. EXTREME disappointment and terrible service. My alternative option that was offered was a moisturizing lotion that the masseuse would "rub delicately" on my body. No thanks. My husband and I both ended up leaving without treatment. Would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Chetola Resort has done a good job with their spa. I enjoyed a 60 minute massage and was very impressed with Jackquelyn. The price was right, the environment was good although I could hear the people in the next room chatting during my massage. The facility was comfortable and clean. We were able to use the pool and hot tub which is in the same building as the spa. read more

The only reason why I gave this place 1 star is because it was a very good massage. If you are looking for a spa like experience, where you can enjoy the amenities of the facility this is not the place. The is a ping pong table set up next to the hot tub, several time a kid or a parent had to come to the hot tub to retrieve their ping pong ball. The sauna was not working, but kids knocking on the windows of the sauna as we waited for them turn it back up deterred us from using it anyway. There were fully dressed men walking around the hot tub, drinking PBRS, attempt to make conversation with us and just hanging out, The locker room can fit two people. It has 1 toilet and a crowded shower. They said not alcohol, but we saw several people drinking openly. The spa waiting room almost drowned out noise of the metric ton of kids playing in the pool. Like I said, great If you just want to walk in and walk out. Not a place to linger and enjoy a spa day. read more
