Where this review is coming from - my great-grandfather, grandfather and uncle were all dentists and taught other dentists. This practice is EXCELLENT, from the doctors to the facilities to the staff. We visited all three sides - me in adult practice, two kids in pediatric dentistry and orthodontics. Everyone knew what they were doing, how to do it, how to explain concerns, etc. I got very good feedback about my prior orthodontists when Dr. J Hertzberg clearly explained how he would like to treat my kids, changes he would like to make, etc. My kids corroborated this when they told me they like Dr. J Hertzberg better than their prior orthodontists. Easy to make appointments, get online reminders, etc. Very highly RECOMMENDED. read more

Beware This practice is not honest with, or caring of, patients. Tried going there for major toothache. They claimed to have room for a new patient and want the business. Then talked for 1/2 hour and scheduled the actual appt over 7 weeks out. I don't believe they have any obligation to treat me, but they should be honest about not having room for a new patient in their practice. If u want a practice that deals w emergencies 2 months after they occur - this practice is for you. If you want a dentist who cares about more than your wallet - suggest keep looking. read more

The whole family goes here and we all love the place! The dentists are excellent, as are they hygienists. The kids' practice is awesome - so careful and caring. The adult practice has weeknight hours for after work appointments. read more

Superb pediatric dentistry. My kids (ages 2 & 4) were all smiles and totally at ease. My only small critiques would be that the soap dispenser in the bathroom is very high and out of reach for kids, and the toys in the waiting room are somewhat lacking. The giant balloons they give out at the end of the visit are pretty awesome though. read more

We, including my two teenage sons, have had a fabulous experience with Dr Donnell. He is very collaborative, an excellent communicator, highly skilled and just a very nice person. Would highly recommend him and Chestnut Dental. read more

We were looking for an exceptional dentist because my daughter was born with weak enamel which required all of her teeth to be worked on at age 2! Thankfully a client referred us to Chestnut Dental, and we have been so pleased with the care and courtesy we receive at each visit! Everyone on staff from the receptionists, to the hygienists, to the doctors are warm, friendly and helpful- we always feel welcomed, well informed and well cared for. They do an extraordinary job of putting my daughter at ease and helping her through procedures which are scary or challenging for her. I cannot say enough about the professionalism and genuine care of everyone there. We drive from Brookline and it's totally worth it -- I can't imagine going anywhere else! read more

Both of my children go to Chestnut Dental. Every single visit, with every dentist and hygienist has been smooth, easy and wonderful for my children. They are efficient, immaculate and sincere. I highly recommend them! read more

We just had a great experience at Chestnut Dental Needham office. My 4 year old daughter had a decay in one of her molar teeth that needed to be treated. It turned out the tooth extraction is a better option after check up. My wife and I had been very nervous about this procedure because our daughter does not like dentist office at all and always cries and tries to leave the chair. Surprisingly, the treatment performed by Dr. McBride and her assistant Priscilla turned out to be very smooth. My daughter had no tears and no screaming during the entire procedure and was very cooperative. For the next few hours after the procedure, there was only a little bleeding and not further pain killer was needed. We are very impressed with Dr. McBride and her assistant Priscilla's skill, and their capabilities to connect with young patients, and their passion to help patients. They did such a great work. from Jin L. and Mei H. read more

I needed emergency dental care 2 days before Christmas and on a Sunday and Chestnut Dental couldn't have been more accommodating and wonderful! Saw me as soon as I could drive there and told me to follow up with the Franklin office, where I usually go, after the holidays. Thank you, Chestnut Dental!!! read more

We switched to Chestnut Dental about 10 years ago when the hygienist at another practice told my son to stop being a baby. From day one, they have been wonderful! We've now had experience with the pediatric dental practice, the orthodontic practice, and the adult practice (that's where I go now!) - and they are all fantastic. Dr. Donnell (one of the orthodontists) was amazing with my son, who was nervous about getting braces. Dr. Donnell explained everything that was going to happen and my son never had to worry about surprises or unexpected discomfort. Everyone is professional, caring, and thoughtful about treatment. I truly cannot recommend this whole practice highly enough. read more

Chestnut Dental has performed outstanding dental procedures over the last 15 years.

I have boy-girl twins on the same insurance. They had cleaning on the same date. The billing staff charged my son $42 (for fluoride) and my daughter $107 ( $42 for fluoride and $65 for exam). My insurance pays for the cleaning but allows only twice per policy year for PERIODIC ORAL EVALUATION. My daughter already used two oral evaluations. So, I am responsible for her exam fee. Chestnut got $37 for exam my son but asked $65 for exam my daughter. Chestnut billing staff said she was told to charge like that and could not do anything. I asked her to adjust the fee. They are twins and do the same cleaning in the same room with the same doctor. She refused. So, I just paid the full amount she asked. I am thinking to find a new provider since I am not happy about this. Sadly, we had been there for almost 9 years. read more

Always a great experience at Chestnut Dental. The front office staff is helpful and patient when I try and call to schedule -- and great about helping me to reschedule when I inevitably have to. The hygienists and dentists are warm and patient, and make my kids feel comfortable and in control by telling the kids everything that the professionals are doing. read more

I have problems with their scheduling as well. It's really hard to schedule an appointment. The appointments with after school hours are taken by 7 or 8 months in advance. If you need to reschedule the appointment, you have to wait for 3 months or take early afternoon appointment, say 1PM or 2PM in 2 weeks. read more

The state put us temporarily on MassHealth because of delays in processing our application (any everyone else's) for coverage with the Health Connector. We are longtime customers of Chestnut Dental and they told my wife that they would "work it out through billing" but then said they don't take MassHealth and stuck us with the full bill for 3 cleanings. Apparently lower income people need not apply here. Once our application is processed, we'll no doubt be back with Delta Dental, but we won't be back to Chestnut. Jerks. read more

Currently I'm 29 years old, and I've been going here since I was 3. My whole family goes here, and we have referred many people to this office since that time. When I was living in RI, I even came all the way back and used their Franklin office. There aren't enough good things to say about the dentists, etc, here. I've gone through it all...from my first retainer to braces and now as an adult, they have always taken care of me with a smile on their faces. Their assistants are lovely, and this place is clean clean clean! Also, they are very punctual about time...you will be seen at the time of your appointment, which is really important to me. I hope you also enjoy your visits with them. read more

Chestnut Dental is AWESOME! My whole family goes to the practice and we love it. My three kids love the friendly and fun environment. Going to the dentist is not always fun but the dental hygienists and Dr. McBride (she is amazing) make it a great experience. Everyone is so friendly, encouraging, and knowledgable. I go to the adult practice and I still get nervous in the chair but the hygienists and dentist are always accommodating. My son has gone to the orthodontist and Dr. Harsfield was great! He talked us through everything and made my son feel at ease. I can't say enough wonderful things about this practice. Even the staff that greet you and schedule appointments are warm, kind and very helpful, especially when trying to schedule appointments around busy schedules. We have been going here for thirteen years and we couldn't be happier! read more

Chestnut Dental has a great pediatric dental practice. From their first visits, my children have been totally comfortable during their cleanings and exams (and, dare I say, they actually look forward to their appointments?!). The dentists and hygienists have excellent credentials and are great with kids. read more

I am a new(ish) patient and just called when a crown popped off an abutment. From the time I called (at 5:49p) to the time the crown as back on was less than 90min. I generally don't like dentists and have had problems with being overly diagnosed. That is not the case here and I find their care highly competent and their hours and availability fantastic. My 7yo daughter is very afraid of dentists and had a great visit here with the pediatric team. I feel grateful to receive care here. And to be honest, I am a terrible patient. read more

Review of Needham pediatric office: If you need more than a 6 month check-up---Find another practice! They sent my son to have root canal but the office can not "squeeze him in" for the permanent filling appointment for 8 weeks! After atleast 6 phone calls---I had to beg, argue and insist that endodontist said the temporary filling will only hold up for 4 weeks max. During my daughter's November check up, we were told she had 4 cavities and needed 4 different appointments. There are no Saturday appointments until March---4 months after! So we had to take weekdays, mid-day appointments (meaning skipping work and school). By the time they finally fixed the second cavity---there were now 5 teeth affected! Not to mention the cavities are now bigger....even with my kid brushing, flossing and using Act everyday! The cavities are worse because treatment was DELAYED- plain and simple. The practice may be big but only one dentist works at a time. And don't even bother getting on their "cancellation waitlist"---nobody called me since November. Either nobody ever cancels--or there's no waitlist. Find another practice ---there are plenty of better dental offices that gives out balloons. read more

I have had my teeth cleaned and taken care of at Chestnut Dental for about 20 years, and have always felt confident about the care in their adult practice (they also have a large pediatric dental practice. My dentists Dr. Yelland and Dr. Strakus always check my teeth after a cleaning, but perhaps due to the excellent hygienists, not much major has been needed. read more

I have been looking for a pediatric dentist in the Needham/Wellesley area, and could not be happier. The hygienist was absolutely spectacular in the way she welcomed my very shy and nervous 7-yr old to her cleaning, and Dr. Shusterman is a gem. Our overall experience was, dare I say it, one of the best we've ever had in a medical office. Five stars, hands down. read more
