My grumble with this location (and so many others) is that the desk was right next to the a/c unit so I couldn't work without being turned into a popsicle. The location is good. Right on the main drag in Galax with a Sheetz across the street (not really walkable though. the "street" is 6 lanes. As others have mentioned breakfast is great and did seem to include an extra hot item. I do wish the staff was a bit more friendly. I passed the front desk multiple times and was never greeted. Additionally the breakfast attendant didn't provide any sort of greeting. It's a small thing but I have come to expect it.

The breakfast in the morning was one of the best breakfast for a hotel (and I have been to quite a few in my time) and the lady who does the breakfast has everything super clean and stocked and well attended to... I gave this review 5 stars because it was a great experience BUT with that.... The ONE thing is that they really really need to get someone in to scrub the pool & hot tub.... We still went in it because we drove extra because of those amenities but it really needs a good scrubbing!! Otherwise it's a great place to spend the night!!!!

We've stayed in Quality Inns for several nights over the past week as we travel on a motorcycle and we have noticed consistency with the beds and pillows and breakfasts We've slept well and started out each morning with a decent breakfast. We still had a twenty-minute drive to the lodge when we reached the North gate. The drive was pretty, though, and passed quickly. The circular driveway in front of the lodge was clogged with cars, forcing us to park down the road a bit. No one was around to welcome us, and finding someone took us a bit. Once we did, the valets quickly took care of us, and we were checked in. Our room on the second floor overlooked the 18th green and a valley on the backside of the lodge. It was terrific: large and spacious, with lots of wood and chunky lodge-style furnishings. The bathroom was huge, with a large tub, separate shower, and his-and-hers sinks. The minibar came stocked with complimentary non-alcoholic drinks and some snacks. While staying here, we enjoyed their astronomy presentation at the top of the silo, walking on several trails through the nearby woods, time in the spa, and making smores out back by the fire pit in the evening with the other guests. There was a special cocktail hour with apps and drinks, and a chance to talk to some of the local providers of food and items to the hotel. They do an excellent job of using local sources for the lodge. Dining was top notch, except at the Stables family-style restaurant. The Stables was a disappointment. Our other meals though in the lodge were top notch. The staff at Primland is the best, and they are what make this place so special. Come visit in the summer and enjoy the cooler temperatures of the mountains.

Weak gym: The fitness center is a step above useless. The elliptical is on the verge of collapse and sounds like someone put rocks in a tumble dryer. The Peloton bike won't connect to the internet, rendering this expensive workout bike virtually useless. The recumbent bike works but has a broken pedal strap and does not display workout time or speed. The standing weight machine has only 1 set of grips, no alternative bars, handles, or straps, and the gym has no dumbbells. The treadmill works.
