4 stars for the venue, prices, and people watching We stopped in at Chester's Reef on a Saturday afternoon/evening. It was really hot outside (July) and even though the venue had its large doors open, the air conditioning kept it very comfortable. The bartender was friendly and the full liquor bar is actually covered by palms to give it a tiki-hut 'look'. There are 12 beer taps, lots of pool tables, a juke box, big screen t.v.'s, and smoking is welcome inside. Add in clear plastic beer cups, a men's room without a mirror, lots of JORTS, and you're officially in this dive bar. But that's ok because it's fun, and prices are decent. This used to be one of my (our) favorite places to play pool, listen to music and have some drinks. Frankly; the new owners have driven away many of the regulars and all the teams that were playing league pool here. It's a shame that they refused to respect the opinions of those that have been supporting this establishment for many years, considering it existed well prior to the arrival of their mafia family mentality. They did make some good renovations, but we would all rather support respectful owner trying hard than someone that thinks you need to treat the customers like you're in the Bronx trying to force respect. We'll wait to hear if things have changed before we spend more money here. A great indicator of what people think of your establishment is when you have several pool tables, is the number of APA teams that are paying you as the home bar. read more

Drinks are pretty good but definitely disappointed in their rude DJ. Wouldn't even hear my request and said "I know when to play my music". I AM the customer, not you buddy. This is a pretty decent open-air dive. It was pretty slow and quiet, but I think we came here on a Monday or Tuesday. Not as much interaction as you'd expect from a neighborhood bar, but service was great and the bar didn't smell like urine. Speaking of urine, the only shortcoming was the bathroom. Tiny. And the urinal is way too low, like kindergarten low. Other than that, nice place! read more

This used to be a great place, until the new owners got ahold of it. Their two best bartenders are gone. They just fired one because she left town with her child ahead of Hurricane Irma, and they wanted her to work the weekend. They even told her to spend the night at the bar. So remember, if you choose to spend money there, that's the kind of greedy people you are supporting. They care more about making a dime than the people who actually make them their money. I WILL NEVER GO BACK. I encourage everyone else to stay out of there as well. read more

I was very disappointed to see the underage cast of Seista Key in the bar drinking. Just so u know i will call the liquor board and file a compleint. Also the female bartender that night ignored everyone at the bsr to wait on the Pos cast, she even got up on the bar to dance and show off for them.we were so appauled that we left. Absolutely the best hangout in Sarasota wonderful staff. The owner Ken is one of a kind. It's been 2 years since I've been here I walked in got hugs and handshakes from everyone. Drinks are alright and cheap and this place is really big with tons of pool tables but if your a girl I wouldn't go without a guy. I've had many bad experience with guys trying to come into the girls bathroom or follow me out of the bar. It's creep central for sure! Staff is pretty friendly and most of the security guards are nice but deff a weird crowd. read more

Would not recommend this place to anyone unless you love to smoke. That's a personal choice, but it was pretty disgusting. Smoke everywhere inside and not enjoyable for non smokers. read more
