We are part of their Pet Plan (we pay monthly into this) and part of the Pet Plan we get a free yearly check up, which I booked as its due. I said in the check up that he has had a bit of an itchy ear the last few days. The vet looked into his ears and prescribed an ointment. When I came out to pay for the ointment, they also charged me for a consultation so I explained to the lady on the desk and said it wasn't a consultation I had but was part of his yearly check up. To which she said because I asked about his ears that is then considered as a consultation. I asked kindly what the actual yearly check up was for then, she said to make sure your dog was ok!!! Disappointed totally. They are more interested in making money than being fair to their furry friends. I'm all for businesses making money, and realises this but don't rip people off unnecessarily. What a huge disappointment Cherrydown Vets in Basildon is.

We have used Cranfield Kennels for years for all of our dogs. Coco our first dog used to be upset…read morein the kennels and the owner Anne used to take him into her home. Our 4th dog Champers became ill whilst we were on holiday and Anne took her to the vets where she was operated on and looked after her until we returned. We are now on our 6th dog Max and would not use any other kennels. We live in Hatfield Peverel and whilst on holiday in Cyprus we met another couple who take their dog to Cranfield Kennels and they lived in Dagenham! Superb service and lovely people. We wouldn't leave our dogs anywhere else.

The dog, a Lhasa Apso named Dusty, was euthanised following the incident and the RSPCA has now called for the grooming industry to be licensed. Neither Jacqueline Ward, the owner of the dog parlour, or employee Victoria Ellis, were qualified dog groomers at the time of the incident. Ward, 44, of Little Bentley, Basildon, and Ellis, 38, of Scott Road, Chadwell St Mary, were found guilty in their absence at a hearing at Basildon Magistrates' Court on January 11, 2013. They were each ordered to do 120 hours of community service and fined £1,000, with £250 to be paid to the dog's owner in compensation. The court heard how 12-year-old Dusty was taken to Ward's former business in Towers Road, Grays, in July 2012 and, after he was bathed and clipped, Ellis left him in a metal dog crate with an industrial dog hairdryer pointing at him. Ellis went away to answer the phone before returning to find Dusty suffering from burns. Dusty's owner was told he had received a small burn from the dryer and was advised to put cream on it. He was taken to a vet but deteriorated in the following days and had to be euthanised
