I'm sure this place is great if you're a drunk regular on a Saturday morning. If you come in for the first time in the late afternoon, however, you can expect to be ignored for ten minutes by the female bartenders clearly more interested in socializing than taking care of customers. Then you get an ineptly poured drink, priced way higher than it should be. The bartenders are not even surly like you would expect in a dive. They're oblivious -- and bad at their jobs. Great place to have some beers and wind down! Free pool and they have a place to play music. I've seen them play BP or cup games on the other side of the bar. It's a place I can keep going back to over and over and over....and over. The bartender Carli was amazing and has a heavy pour. She kept me engaged the whole time even though she had a packed bar. She should be a model with her pretty smile. She controlled the whole bar with free pool tables, no barback and no security. Decided to swing by last night on my way home for a cocktail. When I asked the bartender for an Old Fashioned, she said "Nope", so I took that as "We're out of the ingredients". Walking in through the front door, the door man didn't even bother to check our hero's ID. The bartender didn't have a spare pitcher when our hero ordered Widmer, so he went out into the general bar area, picked up an empty pitcher from a table, and washed it quickly. A white guy named William who was easily the oldest person in the bar walked up to our hero and his friend and started speaking to them in Chinese. So I went here for the first time and it's not bad. Kinda old and beat up but it's what you typically get and expect for a dive type bar. It's got a pool table and I believe I seen beer pong. It's kinda slow and quiet at first. But gets a lot of people by the time 10 pm hits. To the point where you can't even sit down. But that's part of the experience lol. Good people and crowd. Good beer and definitely great prices. They have a kitchen with a pretty big list written on the wall chalkboard but the lady told us the kitchen was closed. So I'm not even sure when that's in use. Yuck. We came to Cherry Pit at the behest of our friends as this is where THEY wanted to hang out and if we wanted to hang out with THEM we had to go to the Cherry Pit. I looked it up on Yelp to get directions and we were immediately sketched out when we pulled into the parking lot and had to trek through the dark to a poorly hung side door with creepy looking collage drop outs leaning against any vertical object that would hold their weight. TINY bar, lop sided tables and stools, and the first thing out of the bar tenders mouth is that she doesn't take any shit and will 86 you if she pleases. Great start Cherry Pit. We ordered a pitcher of Newcastle but there weren't any standard sized mugs so we poured our pitcher into schooners that were warm from the dish water she had just rinsed them in. The meat head drunken bro crowd was nosily playing beer pong and kept hitting me or one of the other girls with a ping pong ball...is that how you really get a girl to notice you? Someone decided the whole bar wanted to listen to nonstop blaring scream-o metal and it was making the natives restless. The bathroom was the least scary thing here, because apparently the bartenders had to take it upon themselves to renovate it because it had be torn to shit by previous patrons. A few years ago my buddy and I went here and we were served by a bartender that we now call "Crazy Annie". Crazy Annie was dressed in a bikini top & short mini skirt, which was strange cuz Cherry Pit isn't a bikini bar. She seems high but happy. We order our beers. She goes to pour our drinks and asks us if we're ready to have fun. And we reply "Yeah, sure, why not?" Crazy Annie winks at us and says "Alrighty then!" and then flashes her pierced-nipple tits to us. Great, right? Yeah, if only Crazy Annie was younger. We get our drinks and for the rest of the time she starts dancing like she was a stripper. Again, nice, right? Yeah, if only if she was younger. I thought it was freaking hilarious the way she was dancing provocatively. Sliding up against the rail, touching her breasts, spreading her legs, the whole shebang. It was equally humorous to see my friend mesmerized & probably disgusted at the same time while watching Crazy Annie dance. We only had one drink there and haven't returned since. I don't think Crazy Annie is there anymore but whenever I drive down Katella Ave. and see this place, I laugh as I think about Crazy Annie. The bartender, Liz, was just great, poured drinks like no tomorrow, gave us free tunes on the box, and even offered to make us fried egg sandwiches. We ended up grubbing on Jack in the Box instead - which was OK. Yeah its true, I'm a fan of this place, but not because of good food. Nor is it because of good beer, because they don't really have that either. Neither am I a fan because the decor or ambiance of the place wins my heart. In addition the service here is not exemplary, neither is the parking generous, nor the neighborhood inviting. I am a fan of the cherry pit because the Cherry Pit knows exactly what it is, and is very good at being just that. A dive. This place is a dive. Come here when you want to play beer pong in a bar. Some guy exposed a testicle here the other day in order to "impress" the bartender. He then initiated a conversation with me about what he likes to do to the female anal cavity. Just before I left, he had his shirt off and he was aggressively yelling "You think you are better than me"! I don't know why, but people seem to get really wasted here. I like it because it is more entertaining than watching baseball (I don't know how people watch that crap). I have always enjoyed watching someone make an ass out of themselves and the pit seems to attract these folks. The pit is pretty small, kind of dirty, and decaying. It is a dive in every sense of the word. There is not much mystery to this place other than trying to predict which drunk will flash a ball first. What is unique about the pit is that they have a ping pong table and beer fest style games every few months or so. They also have a kitchen here but I have yet to eat anything. You will already know if you like this place. I like it because the drinks are cheap and the local drunks are pretty entertaining. This place kicks ass! I went there one night with co-workers and had a great time. Cherry Pit has a bunch of pool tables AND a ping pong table. I am a ping pong FANATIC so I was very excited to play some ping pong while drinking my beer. It's not too crowded (or at least wasn't on a Thursday night when I went). The staff was great because they let us order a pizza and have it delivered to the bar. Yes, a delivery pizza to the bar. They even threw out our pizza trash when we were finished. The only problem (which really isn't all that big) was that the music was SUPER loud and it was impossible to hear the person sitting right next to you if you wanted to say anything. The drinks taste TERRIBLE I asked for a white Russian and got a glass of straight vodka with a splash of kahlua and milk, it was still see through, tasted light rubbing alcohol.
