My wife and I spend a half a day at the Cherry Glen Farm touring the farmstead and eating their goat cheeses. This is an impressive operation from all sides. These are the most well cared for goats, almost 700, that we have seen!! This is how goat dairy farming is done right. They buy the best types of feed and have really good process and practices to keep the goats healthy and happy, which comes out in the goat milk and thus cheeses. My wife couldn't keep her hands off the goats and ensuing smiles from stopping. David the manager and Wayne the owner have many many years of experience in farming and have finely honed their skills here at Cherry Glen.
The cheese making operation was impeccably clean and organized. Most impressive.
Every animal on the farm has a purpose, from the special cats (forgot the breed name), to the Muscovy ducks to the Guinea hens, to the every so happy friendly "herd" of hairy white Great Pyrenees livestock guardian dogs.
Our favorite goat cheeses were the Gold, Vegetable Ash, Chipotle, Monocracy and garlic herb marinated tiny cheese balls, all of which are bloomy rind cheese. If you get a chance to taste them, do your self a favor and go out of your way. Your taste buds will thank you. read more
