When the plate, yup...not a bowl, arrived (don or donburi literally means "bowl" in Japanese) I knew this was not going to even be close to traditional Katsudon. There was no broth. The broth is critical to create the sweet and umami flavor of Katsudon. It is traditionally made with dashi, soy sauce, mirin, sake, and sugar in a shallow pan called a donburi pan. The rice, egg and pork were all separated on a plate. The pork was overly deep fried to extra crispy and drizzled with Tankatsu sauce. So, no bowl, no broth to soak into the breading of the pork and wrong sauce...nope, not even close to the flavor of traditional Katsudon, so I cannot recommend this item. Anyway, the sushi was okay. The restaurant was clean and service prompt and friendly.

Not much to look at from the outside, but in you find it to have a room reception area to go along with a roomier dinner room filled with tables. Service was decent, they were busy on the phone and with other patrons, luckily the cooks were active in bringing out food. Food-wise - delicious and pleasantly surprised. Though the fried rangoons we usually get aren't as crispy as these were - they were stuffed with crab meat - something I haven't experience in quite some time. I ordered their Special Kare which was a big plate of food, delivered hot and plentiful of beef, prawns (as they call shrimp over here) and veggies. No complaints. Chicken Teriyaki was just skewered boiled chicken, dry flavourless and underseasoned, Chicken Karagi came out soaked in sauce and had none of the crispyness associated with the dish, Sushi came with a swimmingpool of soy sauce (I'd say about 40ml of sauce for each dish), they cheaped out on the sofshell crab, over filled the cheaper rolls and all using unseasoned and undercooked rice. Overall the food is pretty aweful. Oh and the chef claims to have come from Shoryu (one of the best ramen places in London)... The staff were on auto pilot and don't know when to quit either. I asked for the bill 3 times. Server had to get the manager first, manager had to get the chef first and 2 of the serving staff just ignored me. Their menu is also apallingly layed out. Almost like 3 different people wrote it. The lighting where I sat was a weird violet colour and gave me a headache too. We got the bill (£80 for the three of us and that includes a 20% reduction), paid and went to the local kabab place which was 10 out of 10 in comparison.

We were the last to arrive, there were many people waiting on their To Go orders and we patiently sat for 45 minutes until our food is ready. It is a first come first serve. I ordered the eel with avacado roll. I like to think of myself as a sushi connoisseur because I have been eating it for the past 12 years of my life and at the finest of 5 star sushi dining. The eel was unagi (fresh water eel) and was tough, unagi is usually quite tender. Other then the eel being a bit on the tough side, it was Ok, I am lenient to the eel because this is England. The other dish I had was the spicy tuna roll. It was by no means spicy or had much of a tuna taste or taste at all for that matter. One complaint I have is the soy sauce containers are so tiny, it is hard to dip your sushi in them. Anyway, I feel that this is an aspiring business, it seems pretty new and will hopefully work out their kinks. I wouldn't recommend this place for a date night out because there is little privacy, I had the guy sitting at the sushi bar ease dropping into my conversation as he pretended to watch TV. That wasn't so cool. Overall not a bad experience but also far from the best.
