We've been trying to get to Cherokee Ranch since before the pandemic. Finally our schedule coordinated with theirs. We were not disappointed. We went for the tea and a tour. The tea was top notch. I did gf and everything tasted so good it was hard to tell there was no gluten. They had leftover gf items and gave me a box to go. Yum! The tour was amazing. Tweet did wonders to the house, no castle; and it was a castle. Original artwork, beautiful furniture, and lots of stories. It's so amazing! We will return with friends, when we can coordinate schedules. read more

We were here for afternoon tea time to celebrate a friend's birthday. Spectacular venue/property, impeccable service, delicious food. The tour afterwards was informative and interesting! I really liked all the savory sandwiches. The curry chicken salad sandwich really stood out, though the cucumber and turkey sandwiches were both tasty as well. Really amazing location for tea time, we had the options for lavender earl gray, mandarin orange and spiced chai tea. All amazing but I would always gravitate towards earl gray. Definitely recommend to give them a try if you're into afternoon tea time. I liked it better than the Brown Palace. read more

We attended a beautiful wedding here and there were stunning views everywhere you turned. From a gorgeous overlook when the ceremony was to climbing up a castle tower and seeing 360 views of the ranch - definitely a unique venue! There was a large covered tent area outdoor for the ceremony with plenty of room for tables and a dance floor and great times. There was a bit of a walk for those with mobility issues, but we took is slow with crutches and made it to the main area. The bathrooms were easily accessible and the food was amazing. Not sure if the wedding was catered by another company or the castle itself. Definitely recommend for a great venue! read more

From the moment you pull off the road and up their drive you are struck by the immense beauty of this place. As you approach the Castle you are struck by the detail in which it was constructed. There are so many things to look at. Before our tour started we were given a briefing as to all the things that we were about to see. Our Docent Michelle Edwards gave us a wonderful tour. Her deep explanations of what we were looking at whether it was the construction elements of the Castle or different works of art was enriching. There are so many things to see and learn about this Castle in Douglas County including the history of the different people that lived there. When the tour was over I felt as though I had stepped back in time and experienced what it must have been like to live at The Cherokee Ranch & Castle. read more

Simultaneously rugged and glamorous, this American castle has a unique charm and rich history. The incredible collection of ancient artworks and different styles of Scottish and British decorations iare truly remarkable. High tea was very delightful, served in various china cups and saucers, an array of sandwiches, scones, pies, tarts, petit fours and chocolates. Today they served only three different teas: mango, cinnamon and green teas. I was disappointed they didn't offer a traditional English black tea or Earl Grey. :( The tour afterwards was broken up into 4 groups so that the flow wasn't overwhelming and crowded. It was reminiscent of the castles I've toured in Europe if only on a much smaller scale. The stories of Tweet Kimball and the previous owners the Johnsons were ones of humor and awe. I should like to return during the summer to view the estate and gather more information. read more

We came here for a holiday afternoon tea and it was delicious! Tea was $65/person and it includes a tour of the ranch. The teas were aromatic and they had chai, black, and roobois to choose from. They had an assortment of sandwiches, chicken curry, cucumber, apple and turkey were all delicious. The scones were also delicious, especially the orange chocolate chunk. There was an assortment of desserts. Staff were friendly and there were volunteers to help you take memorable pictures. Stay for the free tour afterwards and learn amazing things about Tweet Kimball. We'll be back to try their other events! read more

My daughter booked a tea time and castle tour. We arrived on a cool bright sunny day. The castle is amazing against the Rocky Mountains. We were greeted and escorted to our table. Tables are nicely spaced to enjoy the room. We started with a spiced chai tea. It was flavorful and delicious by itself. My daughter added a little sugar and milk. I also tried their black tea and she tried the chamomile tea. They brought out our meal on tiered shelves including tea sandwiches, scones, mini muffins and dessert. All were delicious. The servers were friendly and quick to refill our tea. There was also a gift box for each of us with a chocolate truffle. read more

We had high tea as a Christmas celebration here and it was lovely. However, it was a pleasant surprise that the serving were larger than your average tea sandwiches. The food was good and everything was fresh. There could've been more chocolate but the sweets were nice. The Grand Hall was beautifully decorated as was the outside. After tea we got a tour of the castle and I'll say as a native Coloradan I learned a ton! We had very nice, friendly and knowledgeable guides and saw some amazing artifacts and antiques. I would highly recommend visiting this castle! read more

The place is clean with amazing views!!!! We live close so the drive isisnt bad. I just wish I knew about it sooner! In their website - it shows events! Like a frank senatra night or afternoon tea! I can't wait to try their other events! The one we went to had snacks provided which included a huge platter of fresh fruited, macaroons, cookies, candies, and sandwiches! I mean it was like a full meal! We definitely had a blast visiting the castle! The ladies who worked there were super nice as well and there was plenty of parking. read more

I've always wanted to tour this place after seeing it from the road. So for Mother's Day this year I purchased tickets to their tea and tour. They were friendly from the start as I lost my tickets and then couldn't find the email with the original. So I contacted them and they helped me with replacements. The entrance to the property is past Daniels Gate park, down the hill. The road on the property is not smooth so be prepared to drive slow. Plus there's a posted speed limit. It's so quiet and serene. We passed a cute house called Chickamauga Cottage. Later found out a Ranch Manager (?) still lives there. Drove up to the main building and there's a parking lot and you can also park along the road. We walked up and it was drizzling so no seating outside unfortunately. There's a lovely view from the patio. We did get to see it on our tour. They sat us at a table for two under a portrait of Edgar Allen Poe. The artwork is amazing in the castle. The tea was catered by Serendipity catering company. The servers were friendly but I wish they circulated more often as I wanted more tea. Several of us got up to get more ourselves. The chicken curry salad on a croissant was my son's favorite. I liked the cucumber herb cream cheese finger sandwich. He also liked the carrot cupcake. The scones and snicker doodle cookies were too hard. The key lime pie slice was tart but good with the tea. The fresh fruit kebabs drizzled with agave and mint were refreshing. They had two types of tea - black and mint. I preferred the mint tea. My son was entranced by the sugar cubes. After the tea service, we were given a history of the castle and how it was protected through a conservation easement by 'Tweet' Kimball the last owner of the property. Her story is inspiring and shows her fortitude and determination not to let divorce or being the only lady to raise cattle then stop her. She was so beautiful and her photos and portraits are lovely. The tour does have some spiral staircases but the docent didn't rush us so the older visitors could make it. We saw the gargoyle and a suit of armor. The different rooms were interesting and o loved the tile work in the dining room. A lovely blue. Also the tile work around the fireplaces. The French marketplace scenes were delicate and sweet. Tweet also has the second largest collection of Sir Christopher Wren's architectural drawings. The tour was so interesting and the history fascinating. I can't remember all of it but the part I loved most was how she got her nickname Tweet. Her dad wrote letters to her mom with drawings of birds and asking how his little 'tweet' was. On our drive out we saw herds of deer and some turkeys. It was a fantastic end to a laid back afternoon spent with my love. read more

We went to the Frank Sinatra impersonator. The drinks were served in small plastic cups and were watered down, the wine was not good and they each cost $9.00. It was so hot in the great room I spent most of the evening on the porch by myself. Dinner was alright but was more of a picnic menu. I have to admit I thought the show was pretty good. One and done. read more

Had a delightful time at the Castle recently for a performance of Mark Twain Tonight. The performer (1-man show) was fascinating, engaging and humorous. His mannerisms appeared quite 'period' and genuine. The dinner was okay but to me the hors douvres (sp) and desserts were pretty good. I want to go back in the summer when I can see more of the castle and grounds. Gotta be some fascinating stories there. read more

Cherokee Ranch and Castle is absolutely beautiful. The history here is unlike anything else in Colorado. All of their events are very fun, well organized and fairly priced. We have attended many events at Cherokee Ranch and Castle, and every single one has been beautiful and unique in its own way. The most recent event we attended was a Downton Abbey themed afternoon tea. We absolutely loved the charming food selections as well as the delicious tea and the spectacular atmosphere. The staff had a ton of attention to detail and made the entire afternoon really special. The trivia and the characters were both a fun addition to the tea itself, and we found ourselves laughing quite a bit throughout the whole event. We have also seen Spinphony at the Castle and have participated in a chocolate and wine pairing night. Both were also wonderful! One big tip: check out the view from the spectacular deck! read more

A hidden gem with so much history. I ended up going to Cherokee Ranch & Castle because my boyfriend won tea and a tour at an gala auction. We weren't really sure what to expect, but we had a blast. We had a meal before we came to tea, but honestly it wasn't necessary because the "snack" selection at tea was awesome. I honestly couldn't pick a favorite food bedside they were all so delicious. Even the jams and butter were super good. We were also able to pick between two teas. Each tea had a distinct flavor and we enjoyed switching between both. I especially loved the unique tea cups and saucers. It was a special touch that the owner used to collect them. The tour was so much fun. From the art, to the history of the castle and its owner, to the stunning views. It was so much fun to peruse the castle and it wrapped up the day. One of the best afternoons we've had in awhile. read more

Beautiful place but we experienced a very rude lead staff person there the night we went. We watched the Frank Sinatra show at the Castle this past Friday evening in celebration of my good friend's mom's 90th birthday!! What a great evening--one to remember!! The night started with a beautiful tour of the ranch and grounds. Be prepared to take in some breath-taking views, and make sure your phone is poised to take some pictures!! If you want to see the sites from Pikes Peak to Denver, know that you must climb some narrow winding stairs. But, it's so worth it!! We were treated to "appetizers" but actually we were fed quite well--protein, salad, fruit, pasta, desserts, etc. It was not an array of appetizers but rather, a full meal! There was a cash bar that does take cards but can only accept $ for tips, so be sure to bring some cash for that. The show itself was so much fun!! Many opportunities to get pictures with "Sinatra" who was both a great singing performer and comedian!! He was so gracious to my friend's mom, stopping several times to sing especially just to her!! He performed for a good 90 minutes, and he genuinely looked like he was having just as much fun as we were! The volunteers and workers were knowledgeable, helpful, accommodating, and kind! They seem to really enjoy what they are doing and have a love of history, a respect for Tweet Kimble (the original owner and visionary of this beautiful gem), and a relish for the land and property!! Go to a performance here!! Go to tea here!! Go on a tour here!! It's truly one of the front range's hidden jewels!! read more

Here goes the review! It started out that when arriving at the venue to see the Jesery boys event, the bar was located outside in the rain. 70 People were trying to sit in an event when there was only 50 sitting areas. There were no announcements of anything and I just happen upon the start of dinner table buffet. I took 2 - 4" plates so that I would not have to mix my dry items with wet food items. The person at the table asked me if I was getting someone else's food, which I said no, it was for me. She said they had told everyone that you should only have one plate, but there was never any such notice. I did return to the table because they had not put out any deserts and was asked by the same lady, you coming back thru the buffet again? The initial event was somewhat of a cluster with seemingly no management of the process, May be because of the rain which it did not seem they had no plan B, as I guess it never rains there. The bathroom door near the tent area, men's room, did not have a working lock and anyone could just walk in on you without notice. Water provided was warm and should have been cold, ice water. You have a wonderful place to provide classy events, don't spoil it by the aforementioned details. Get a Manager that can control these issues. read more

We had wanted to take my parents who were visiting from out of town to a Christmas themed afternoon tea at the Brown Palace. Though my husband & I enjoyed having tea there before, it seemed like fate that the Brown Palace was fully booked which led us to discover the Holiday afternoon tea at Cherokee Ranch. Not only is it a shorter drive from our house, but we enjoyed the experience far more then the Brown Palace holiday tea & felt we got way more bang for our buck! People had told me they had seen Cherokee from 85 but my husband & I never had. Seeing an imitation 15th century Scotish castle rise up out of the Colorado wilderness was quite a sight to behold. It was gorgeously decorated for Christmas in every room, & such a treat to take afternoon tea in the beautiful great hall. The tea & finger foods you get were tasty & were good size portions of each item. There's also the option to add a bottle of prosecco though I was glad we didn't when it came time to do the walking tour. Having never been to Cherokee, the afternoon tea feels better then most I've had because you get the fun of the tea service but as that winds down you're itching to see the rest of the castle's rooms. The docents were so nice and fantastic storytellers. While I was expecting fantastic views from the windows & balconies as well as cool interiors, what blew my family & I away was the art & furniture collection. The pieces in there are literally priceless or so rare you'd have to travel to famous European museums to ever see something of the same stature. I could not believe the hidden gems all housed in rural Sedalia, Colorado of all places! Only recommendation I have for the tour is don't wear heels ladies! The sharp incline of the narrow staircase up the tower is no joke but you have to go at least once to see the view (even if it makes your hands shake & sweat the whole time like mine were)! I definitely want to come back here for more of their events & bring some other family & friends. This is a fantastic hidden gem of an activity that will impress any visitors, natives or otherwise! read more

I was there about 16 years ago when we were looking for a wedding venue. It did not work out but I was impressed by the view and the history of everything. So when I saw the princess tea party, I jumped at the chance to take my girls. (6 and 4) It was the best princess tea party we have ever been to. And you can be sure I have been to a few...dozens... The location was already enchanting to begin with. The stone work, the view, antiques, furnishing, all the way to sparkly table cloth! The drinks option was great, unsweeten tea, sweet tea, water and lemonade for the little ones. It was easily accessible through out the event. The food was outstanding. I have been to a few tea parties where the food was an after thought. This one has great selection and great quality even the adults will enjoy. The timing was great. No long waits on anything. Now, the princess, Belle. She came with the prince! They sang and dance and the photo op at the end was cherry on top. All and all wonderful experience. I am not sure how much money they made given all the great things they offer, but $35 is very reasonable. We will be back again and again! read more

Great tour and house. I love how they break up the large group into small groups! I also love how the rock walls make it SO quiet you forget there's anyone else in the castle. The views are breathtaking. The architecture is beautiful. It makes the castle feel small and cozy. I'd like to return for a high tea. The staff were very kind and inviting. Totally blown away by the art collection! Titian, Rubens...seriously?? So good. We had an excellent tour guide (Susie?) who took us everywhere and had many fun stories to share. The day we went the owner's former butler and his wife were there as well as Dr. Marvin Beeman, Master of the Arapahoe Hunt club with his wife. That was extraordinary in and of itself. To speak with people who are a part of the living history of your community is just an awesome experience. The castle itself is in impeccable condition and the furnishings are original and also beautifully kept. There is a vast army of volunteers who makes sure this is so, and their efforts are not lost on this tour taker! Well done. We really felt like guests at the castle as we listened to the history and walked through the rooms. We also stayed for tea which was very nice. A great variety of sandwiches and desserts which are made by the Wellspring Best Buddies Bakery!! That was a great surprise and was a perfect complement to a wonderful tea. The waitstaff during the tea couldn't have been more attentive or cordial. It was a pleasure speaking with them. There is a portrait 'in the style of Rembrandt' that is hanging in the great hall. I'd love to read more about how its origins or title are being researched. Overall, it was an absolutely wonderful experience and well worth the $15 tour fee. If you're local and haven't been, I highly recommend a visit. Go online to make your reservation. The Daily Letter. Number 9: 6/24/2022. By Gene W. Edwards. Whiskey au Go Go? It's Cherokee Castle and Ranch in Douglas County, Colorado. This is a pre-Renaissance--1400 A.D.--replica of a Scottish Castle. You don't need to go to Scotland to see this one, built in 1924-1926, the Roaring Twenties, during Prohibition time (1920-1933). Lots of partying went on at this location, not inhibited or prohibited at all. I give this scenic attraction an A-. The whole story of this place concerns Tweet Kimball, 1924-1999, a liberated woman of four marriages who was bigger than life as a player and talent. Check out Tom Lehrer's song about "Alma Mahler" (also Alma Gropius/Alma Werful), It's Lehrer's only un-funny song, one commemorating a loose, attractive, multi-talented, three-times-married woman much like Tweet--and you will understand who Tweet was. Here's some bio info, among many such files about her on the internet: https://thekeepcolorado.com/the-story-of-tweet-kimball/ Much money went into Tweet's marriages and into the purchase in 1954 of the castle and its land. The castle and its buildings are worth at least 20 million dollars. And her 3,280 remaining acres are now preserved in perpetuity as a historical epic. See Wikipedia's Cherokee Castle entry. This is in Douglas County--recently America's richest county--a few miles west of Castle Rock, CO and near Castle Pines Golf Course. High roller country. The view from atop the castle of all of Denver's environs is only second to the one from off Pike's Peak. Hummingbirds and spotted-orange butterflies flick about. Beds of beautifully manicured flowers are everywhere. A "warning" to you: the two mile or so gravel private road to the castle is washboard city. Tighten your car bolts! ***** What's a Scottish castle? You first walk through a hallway lined with priceless pre-Renaissance and early Renaissance paintings, the hallway leading to an auditorium-sized, high-ceilinged room. The castle contains 10,000 square feet of art, a suit of armor, bedrooms, a study/office, drinking places, and some of the 14,000 books Tweet collected, many quite rare! You'll see original art, old family-and-royalty pictures and paintings, memorabilia of and about Tweet, and a thick atmosphere of the rare, the unusual, the picturesque, and the self-indulgent. As Dylan Thomas put it in a short story, "Just like little dogs!" The two must-sees for me were (1) a small painting by a name French artist near that big room, but particularly, (2) in the entrance hallway to the main room is a Peter Paul Rubens painting on wood of St. Peter. This one painting alone is worth the price of your trip, which includes a nearly two-hour tour into time! Twenty-first, and even twentieth century, amenities were mocked in a replica of an upper story bedroom in this many-floor and multi-level castle. The bed in that room was short, for a full-sized or growing boy. Why? Because in 1400 he had to sit up in bed to endure the smells coming from lower floors! The bed had a canopy and a draw-curtain to close it fully-in at night because in the old Scots' time, that big room downstairs was full of smelly animals. Additionally, there were eight wood fireplaces, including a giant one in the main floor's big room. Smoke rises. Then and in Tweet's castle's time, there was the smell of Scotch whiskey, tobacco, and an air of drunkenness, reckless frivolity, and Gatsby-riche cluelessness--which is why I give Tweet's life story an A-, a near miss. See how they and she lived, like bugs on our microscope. This is not slice of life, it's slice of time reality. It's how the other half lived/live. More money than God, but less moral sense. Love, Gene read more

The tour was great, couldn't believe all the history, artworks, and the masterpieces in the castle! Its definitely an underrated American history museum hidden in a gorgeous setting. The views are fantastic. So why the low rating? Because we booked the tour with intentions of taking pictures outside the castle. I wore a floor length maxi dress through out the tour and when I got outside at the end of the tour to take pictures, there was a wedding rehearsal going on. I asked the staff and they said the rehearsal will end in 15 min and I can take pictures after that. So we waited about 20min and the rehearsal was still going on so we just started taking pictures with our small point and shoot camera ( just a simple camera with a lens that extends out maybe 2 in) and the staff ran over to stop us because they charge for professional photo shoots. I explained that it wasn't a professional shoot as I am not using the pictures for commercial purposes but just to show my friends and family and also my camera is far from anything professional. It wasn't even an entry dslr, it was just a simple point and shoot! But they insisted it was professional and made us leave the property. So, they told me I could take pictures when I asked earlier then made us leave when we started to take a few pictures with a non-professional camera. I was thinking of coming back for the tea next year when I'm in Colorado again but now it's definitely on the bottom of the list. I do recommend the tour a lot though just don't bring any cameras besides your phones I guess. read more

We attended one of their princess parties in the great hall. The princesses were wonderful! They had wonderful interaction with all the children. There was a story, dance and singing party with all the children around Cinderella and Belle. The service was very attentive. The poor rating is for the food. If I could rate the food and experience separately, the food would get zero stars and the experience five. There were cold pepperoni rolls, mini pb&j, watermelon on sticks, terrible cupcakes and rice crispy treats. Not exactly filling or what you would expect for $35. Edit: Cherokee asked what I expected for food from a tea for little girls. I expected that they would also consider the grandmothers, aunts and mothers who brought the girls and paid for the outing. I understand you wanted fun, kid friendly food. You can make appealing food for both the adults and children without isolating either group. Instead of watermelon cut outs on sticks that were difficult to eat, have a fruit salad. Instead of mini pb&j have turkey sandwiches on croissants. Instead of cold pepperoni rolls (that the girls didn't even like), have a chicken Caesar salad. Something more filling and substantial. You don't have to dumb down food for kids anymore. read more

Nope. Its one of those places that you need to experience for yourself. The location is stunning and the gardens are beautiful but nope, super bummed. The host was super rude but the servers were kind and friendly. The food, ekkkk. There was a chicken and sausage, which my husband found a few small bones in. There was also a pasta with spinach which was decent with meatballs. The meatballs were the best part, however being cocktail sized, you only got to. Awesome tour!! I have driven by here for twenty years and always wanted to go see the view from the castle itself. I finally was able to squeeze into my schedule the 1 1/2 hour tour (only $15!). This castle was built by the Johnson family but Tweet Kimball made it what it is today. We were lucky enough to meet Tweet's last butler and chef before our tour started (John and Meg I believe). They have a cookbook in the gift shop. Susan was our tour guide and she readily admits it's hard to see everything in such a short amount of time. Tweet Kimball was a headstrong, brilliant, go getter with an appreciation of great artworks of all kinds and connections with everyone including Poe. She was a single mother raising two boys at a time when it was unheard of, and she got into cattle. The artifacts throughout the house are everywhere and truly a pleasure to see. The view from up top? Breathtaking. Check out their website. They do tours, teas, weddings, photography hikes, concerts and more. Gorgeous place. The castle is absolutely beautiful. It made the perfect location for our wedding. The views are amazing and everything about having a castle wedding made me feel so special.
