A few blocks away from our house, Cheong Shin is our go-to Chinese restaurant. It also is a few blocks from the main Alameda avenue, which makes it an easy meeting point for anyone taking public transportation.
They serve traditional cantonese food - although it is not the best or highest quality I have tasted, it does the job.
The best part about Cheong Shin (in my opinion) are their french fries or "papas chinas". Now, I am not 100% sure if these are typical Chinese french fries (can someone let me know if this is in fact true?) but they are good.
I should also warn you -- these are french fries are intense! Not only are the french fries breaded to ensure extra crunchy fried goodness, but they also have an extra dash of flavor.
Luckily Cheong Shin is open until late (1am on Fridays - Sunday and 1:30 Mon-Thursday) making these french fries my go-to late night snack. They offer both a large and small bag -- the small is good for one person (trust me).
Although I could write about these french fries for another 2 paragraphs, I will let you know about their other options. They have veggie options like veggie "chaumen" with broccoli, swiss chard and diente de dragon (although nothing is quite as good as their papas chinas).
They also have delicious all-cheese spring rolls (basically fried spring roll dough with fried cheese...seriously greasy yet good).
Ok, enough about their deliciously bad for you fried options. Cheong Shin also offers some great "colaciones" for any time of the day (costs 3.400) and you can get it to go or eat there.
You can also call in your order before you come to make sure your evening is wait free.
Cheong Shin charges for extra soy sauce as well as utensils for to-go orders - so make sure you are stocked up. read more
