Stopped in for lunch to go. Great service & fast! Nice place to have a meal, quiet as well. Food tasted great. Wish more chicken was in dish, I could count the pieces there was so little. But I'll still go back. read more

This place has the best Wonton Soup!!! The broth has layers of flavors that is just delicious. The other items were good but not comparable to the soup. The service and atmosphere were good. My only drawback on the place is they use chipped dinnerware. read more

Who'd have thought you'd find good sushi in Spencer IA? Not this guy... What a nice surprise. Open for dine-in. Staff was masked up. They were quick to greet us, seat us, and attentive throughout our stay. Four rolls and an order of crab rangoon (6). $40 and change before tip. The same in the Des Moines metro would be $60ish. A very nice find while on the road. Pro tip though... When they say spicy they mean spicy. No need to add extra wasabi because you assume it's going to be "Iowa hot." read more

Oh we love Chen's. My 96 year old Aunt loved coming here for a special lunch, now we go in her honor. Fantastic wait staff, everything we've had has been tasty! read more

Excellent service and food! Food came out fast and hot. Hot tea had flavor. Seemed clean.

Great tasting authentic Chinese food. It's made fresh and there's great service too. The ambiance is relaxing

Always great food and service. Amazing lunch prices/specials. Sushi was amazing but their sushi chef went back to china.

Phenomenal food and for the right price! Strongly recommend coming here! Service was quick and the quality stayed great.

Food is delicious. Restaurant is immaculate. Service is wonderful. Wish they had cocktails beyond wine and beer.

Not the same since the pandemic. Last two times we ate there half the house got sick. Food still tasted good but not coming back up

For sushi in small town Iowa, this satisfies the craving. Kind of pricey. Can have slow service as well.

Super nice people that work here. Food is excellent and the price is on point. Had curry shrimp and man was it delicious. Creamy and spicy, perfect flavors and amount of shrimp. Stay away from the other Chinese restaurants in Spencer this place is it. read more

This this place is really good but very expensive. I love their garlic chicken. Huge portions. I get 2 meals out of it.

Five stars! The service is always wonderful and the food is great! I recommend going to Chen's Garden. read more

We have been to Oriental restaurants from San Francisco to Washington DC and points like Dallas & Chicago in between. Chen's holds it's own nicely with a pleasant atmosphere and authentic Asian staff in the middle of a land settled by Norsemen. A very unexpected jem. read more

I have to say this is hands down the best sushi we have ever had. Very generous portions of tuna in our rolls. I had a tempura tuna roll (had never seen tempura sushi roll before in our travels) and it was exquisite. Hubby got the volcano roll. Both were good and I wouldn't favor one over the other but hubby ultimately liked the tempura roll slightly better. We both got a bowl of soup. He had egg drop and I had hot and sour. Warning: the bowl is enough for four if not six people! Keep that in mind. We got egg rolls for appetizer and they arrived freshly made and steaming hot. The menu is extensive and rather than offering one style of Asian food offers Japanese, Thai, Chinese and maybe more. You can also order a pot of specialty Japanese tea for the table. Will have to try that next trip. Our service was prompt, attentive, and friendly. Food arrived in timely manner. Store and convenience rooms are very clean. Prices are very good. All in all, we are impressed to find such a quality Asian food restaurant in the middle of, well, the Midwest! Update: we have been back to Chen's at least five more times and have never been disappointed. Tried the pot of hot tea, Jasmine and also Kings something or other....I think that is what it is called. Generous amount of exquisite tea. Service has always been friendly and prompt. If meal took longer at times it is because it is all made when ordered and fresh. But never a inordinately long wait. read more

We moved from NY 3 years ago and were accustomed to great Chinese food on every corner. Sadly we quickly learned that this was not the case around here... Well today we walked into Chen's and we were happily surprised!! Sushi was good and our hot dishes were very good!! read more

Awesome food ! Great atmosphere. We order take out a lot and always quick service. Teriyaki dishes are excellent!

5 Stars, because if you are looking for Chinese in Spencer, Iowa: Come Here. Wanton soup, Mongolian beef, chicken and mushroom - all excellent. The do carry out and dine in. Atmosphere is great and service very friendly. Honestly, their pho was a little off in the broth, but pho is not exactly Chinese and I honestly cannot find it anywhere else within a 40 minute drive, so in that regard, I'll take what I can get. So 5 stars from me. read more

Service was efficient and very friendly and helpful. We have eaten at a number of excellent Chinese restaurants in Canada and Scotland as well as many in the U. S. and would rate this one as not great but good enough to provide a decent meal. read more

Very fast at take-out & great food! I love the Pork Egg Too Young. Yumm. Fun atmosphere if you choose to dine in, & many options you will not find anywhere else in Spencer. The Eel was NOT to our liking, but my husband has to say he tries everything at least once. Perhaps if you already like Eel then maybe you will like it. :-) Neat iced Thai Tea ....(NOT to be confused with CHAI TEA though , so if you want CHAI then go to BlackEarth Java, ha). We would recommend Chens! read more

By far one of the best Chinese restaurants I've eaten at. The service is great, if you can understand their broken English, they understand English well, so it works out. They bring out the meal in courses and serve you personally. The food is the BOMB! I can't say enough how good the Chicken Lo Mein is. read more

Have never had a bad meal here, the general tso's chicken is great and all of their sushi rolls are on point.

I'm from Arizona and not a big fan of Chinese Food in general. I've eaten here three times with my grandfather and love it! Beef and peapods! Tuna Roll! Lobster Roll! All delicious! read more

Small place. Found it by yelping... of course. I liked the main dish I got (Mongolian Triple Delight) but it wasn't the best Asian food I've ever eaten. I don't give a lot of five stars so why would I give these folks five when I wasn't overly impressed with the main course? The egg drop soup. Probably the best soup I've ever eaten. I should have just ordered three bowls of it and waddled away happy... you gotta try it. read more

Best Chinese in town! Everything is fresh and well made. Their lunches are generally quick and delicious.

This is much better Chinese food than you'd expect in a small town. The Garlic Chicken and the Walnut Crusted Shrimp are my two favorites. For lunch you can eat a big meal for about $8-$9 with a drink! read more

The take out food was so bad it was thrown in the trash! The meat was All fat and tough. The shrimp was mush and the dumpling tasted sour. The vegetable dish was covered with rancid peanuts and the dish should not have had nuts in it at all! I called them and they offered no compensation or apology for the awful food that was awfully expensive. I was a long time customer who will not be returning. read more

Spencer, IA has a great asset with Chen's. It is always at the top of the list when our office chooses a lunch destination. My personal favorite is the Mongolian Triple Delight.
