Left: black dragon roll Right: avocado cucumber roll

Sushi was amazing! Was looking to try something different so I tried the black dragon roll (avocado, eel, shrimp tempura) - so good! The avocado cucumber roll was also very good, such a classic you can't go wrong. I also had the house spring rolls, came with 2 in an order - so good! It was decently busy between takeouts and dine-in, but the food was delivered promptly and fresh. My server Sydney was definitely a highlight of the dining experience! She is so knowledgeable about the menu, whether it be a portion question or a recommendation, Sydney is your girl! Takeout for my family was also executed perfectly thanks to Sydney. Dine in with her for a great experience, I'll be back Syd :)

Szechuan Dumplings. How did I miss the memo on these!?

We've all heard and possibly even made the "10 Minute" Chinese Food joke. I mean, why not? It writes itself and it's almost always kind of sort of funny. What's NOT funny is that to be honest, I don't WANT my food ready in 10 minutes. The only thing that should come out in 10 minutes is a salad and maybe an appetizer. If my take-out order is ready in 10 minutes, that says a lot of things that I don't want to be said about my dinner. We decided to try this place for the first time the other night on a few recommendations from friends and family. At this point, we've tried literally every single other Chinese Food option in a 10-mile radius so why not! As with most first contact situations, this was going to be a kind of light, take-out test run. It was just my daughter and me, so there was going to be a huge discovery opportunity here, but we decided to hit a couple of obvious options: Unique appetizer, "standard" Chinese food dish, Sushi roll, and a unique specialty dish. Put the call in around 5:30 on a Tuesday night and got our order in. The gent that answered the phone was super polite and read everything back to make sure we got exactly what we ordered. Love that! Once we were square, he said "Thank you, your order with be ready in.....................................................................THIRTY MINUTES!!!" He didn't actually pause and yell like that, I added that for emphasis. The point is, the 30-minute wait was a plus for me. Arrived right at the 30-minute mark and the food was just coming out of the kitchen, perfect. Price was right on point and we were in and out. On to the food.... Appetizer: Apparently there is a thing called "Szechuan Dumplings" that I've never heard of and someone forgot to tell me about. All I'll say is this, get them. Completely unique twist on a common app. 10/10 on those. Standard Dish: My daughter is a LoMein FIEND and I've watched her consume more of it than I can remember. Her take on the Port LoMein here? "Really good". I also tried it and I will say that it wasn't as salty as others I've had and the noodles were firmer than most, both of which I loved. 7/10 Sushi Roll: We got the Samurai specialty roll and I'll say this, it was better than I expected. It wasn't good enough to make me go here SPECIFICALLY for Sushi, but it was good enough that I'd order one if I was here anyway. Not life-changing, but high quality and really tasty. 6/10 Specialty Dish: Although I was kind of leaning towards something straight spicy, the "Black Pepper Chicken" specialty dish caught my eye right away. It was nothing I'd ever ordered before and honestly don't ever remember seeing it on a menu before. It was good, REALLY good. Very peppery (obviously), but not enough to outweigh the other flavors. The typical mix of Chinese vegetables and a nice garlic-ey sauce. Big fan and will definitely get this again. 7/10 Again, we did the take out thing, but the dining room seemed nice and clean and pretty cozy. The servers were back and forth all over the place so I'm assuming that is covered as well. Our next contact will be for dine-in, but at this point, I would say that this is the BEST Chinese option within a 10-mile radius. We're fans!

I am always happy after I had a dinner from the Cheng Square. This place is the bomb. The service is excellent; the ambience is pleasant and inviting; and the chips are addicting. I had boneless ribs, and they were sweet. It brought me back to my childhood days of smacking my tongue around my favorite candy. They are so, so good. My wife was in the third heaven with her California roll, salad, and soup. True Nirvana. I got my second Diet Pepsi, and extra chips. We then each received the traditional Chinese fortune cookie and decided after we left to get two powerball tickets. We started our good luck with a good meal, and I kissed the ticket for a continuation of that luck . When you're in the Middlebury area, you have got to visit Cheng Square.

Awful. Their fried rice was okay, but their vegetables tasted like toilet water. I'm at home and feel sick from their food.

This time around, I stopped by and got some appetizers and sushi. I can tell y'all that I was impressed by both the taste and the prices. Flavors were unbelievable, I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did! I felt both fulfilled and content with what I ordered and paid for. Our server was kind and made us feel comfortable. For appetizers, I ordered both the Shumai (Shrimp Dumplings) steamed, and the Soft-Shell Crab that was breaded and fried ... delicious. For entrees, the Red Lion Roll was absolutely amazing! I didn't expect to enjoy as much as I did! The Salmon Roll was also ordered, that one tasted good too. Since I'm still experimenting with raw fish, I'd say it's something I'd have to get more used to. Would totally eat here again, definitely recommend if you enjoy sushi and Japanese food!

Was excited to check this place out due to a friend giving it high praise. Said it was fancy too…read more I wouldn't go that far. Ambiance is nice, however people were not dressed to the nines in here. No one seems to dress when they go out anymore though. I'm being nice and giving this place a 3 for the ambiance. The menu is quite.... eclectic? They advertise themselves as a steakhouse and have an extensive beef menu with various sauces, however they also have a seafood section, a burger section, and entree section with items like Braised Beef Ravioli, Chicken Parm in addition to having a whole separate menu for sushi. I feel like those are very different food offerings with different chef specialties needed. Sushi in itself you need a sushi chef. I doubt the sushi chef is making burgers and lobster ravioli well. I think due to the fact that they have so many different things going on with the menu, they aren't perfecting everything. Anytime a restaurant has too large of a menu I find that the food is not spectacular. I had the Lobster ravioli. It was a tad salty and did not wow me. My boyfriend had the Seared Salmon with mango/veggies. That did not look super appetizing to me. Service was abismal. It was very busy in there so initially a server came over, read the specials, but we told him we were not ready to order. He left our table, and in about 5-10 minutes someone else came by, read us the specials but we told him someone else had already read us the specials. He then disappeared and no one returned to our table for about 15 minutes. We had to flag someone down to take our order. Clearly miscommunication on who's taking what tables/sections. Service - terrible, food - ok. Not quite sure what this place wants to be. Would not be running back here.

High-End Fusion & The Best Sushi in Southbury! If you're…read morelooking for a step up from your standard takeout, Oriental Gourmet in the Southbury Plaza is the place to be. It is a fantastic Japanese/Thai/Chinese fusion spot that hits the mark on both quality and ambiance. The Highlights: * The Southbury Roll: This is a must-order! It is incredibly flavorful, fresh, and easily one of the best specialty rolls in the area. * Amazing Soups & Fusion: Their Thai and Japanese-style soups are standout starters. Whether you're getting sushi or Thai curry, the ingredients always taste premium. * Astounding Chinese Classics: While they do "fancy" food well, their traditional Chinese dishes are excellent. The flavors are clean and the quality of the meats is top-notch. * Pro Tip on Portions: Keep in mind that while the quality is high, the combination platter portions can be a little smaller than your average "hole-in-the-wall" spot. Also, some favorites like the Boneless Spare Ribs (which are delicious!) need to be ordered as separate items rather than in a combo. The Experience: It's a bit more expensive than other spots in the Valley, but you're paying for the freshness and the atmosphere. The ambiance inside is great for a nice sit-down dinner, and because it's located in the main plaza, parking is never an issue. It's my favorite "go-to" when I want high-quality sushi and a great dining environment right in the heart of downtown Southbury!

We were impressed that they had so many different Asian cuisines to choose from! For our first visit we stuck primarily to Chinese food, but it's good to know they have sushi too. Almost every dish was good, but my mom didn't really love her Mongolian beef and said it had a weird grittiness to it. Our server was attentive and they refilled our waters often. Not a bad spot!
