Went to this restaurant on a Saturday, as usual the food was good. We were seated as soon as we arrived and the waitstaff greeted us and brought drinks right away. Then the wait for food started. Our waiter constantly came back to our table to apologize and assure us our order "would be right up" or "just another few minutes ". 1 hour and 5 mins later we were served our hot food on STONE COLD plates! It was like they took the plates out of the freezer! Portions are good size and food was good but did not stay hot for long. We noticed that parties seated after us were served first. Hopefully, this is a one time experience but we will be reluctant to go back in the future. Gave this place 3 tries - all for lunch. The first time we had Chinese food. When almost done, I found some kind of wire in my food. The (very inexperienced) waitress' reply was "OK, I'll tell them", not even an apology. The food was mediocre - like typical chinese takeout. The 2nd and 3rd time I had sushi - Both times it lacked flavor, the ingredients were not fresh, the wasabi was not even hot. I've had better sushi from Price Chopper... Each time we went the staff was different and the waitresses always seemed overwhelmed. Won't be going back. read more

Food is not either authentic Chinese food or Japanese food. A lot of sugar and starch in the sauce. Decor has no style. But mostly, the place is filthy, dirty! There was a hair in the bottom of one tea cup and one piece of fortune cookie paper in an other tea cup. We didn't see it until when we almost finished the tea. Gross!! Food here is delicious! It's an Asian treasure in the Waterbury/ Watertown area. All eat in customers get free tee and wonton chips when then sit down. This is something their competitors don't do. Staff is super friendly. Sometimes they're so busy that there may be a wait (weekends during dinner are crazy). If you go during those time you may notice a full house and feel like they may be short staffed. I like to go during lunch- not too crazy and they have wonderful lunch specials at a great price. I really love this place. One reviewer complained that they don't use enough salt, but that's actually what I think makes this place unique. It's not a sodium overload, but still has a nice amount of flavor. The food tastes fresh, the atmosphere is really nice, and the menu is easy to understand. This has become a favorite for my family as well as my extended family. They have chinese food and japanese fare as well. Even better, they serve ice cream too, and its GOOD! Actually, I think I'll get some takeout from here for dinner tonight! :) read more

Awful. Their fried rice was okay, but their vegetables tasted like toilet water. I'm at home and feel sick from their food.

We have eaten here numerous times over the years, and were always happy with the food and the surroundings. Lately though, the restaurant is becoming very dirty. The carpeted floor is absolutely offensive...littered with crumbs, food particles, paper remnants, and other assorted items. I have mentioned this to the wait staff more than once, and was told that it is hard to keep up with removing the trash off of the floor. I have never seen a restaurant floor so filthy. There is no excuse for this lack of cleanliness. This gives me serious concerns over what the kitchen and food storage and food prep areas must be like. Tonight, our appetizers of fried wontons were overcooked, and our meals of Chicken with Garlic Sauce, had oil pooling at the bottom and edges of the plate. The appearance placed a damper on our appetites. It appears that the owners have become very sloppy and uncaring in their facility and their food preparation. Went here with some friends and family last week. The restaurant seems to be a pretty new place maybe opened in the last few months. We were seated promptly and they had a pretty extensive menu , which includes sushi and an extensive ice cream selection which was welcome. Food was very tasty and the sushi my friend and I ate was very good as well, My kung po combo was very reasonably priced and was a definitely good sized portion. What I thought was a really great idea is having dinner combos like you get at a take out place w/ fried rice and an egg roll, those were great affordable options and the egg roll was definitely awesome. Didn't have room for dessert but it's on my list of things to try next time, I'll be back. read more

The restaurant has been a frequent takeout for me and the goto-place for chinese food. It will probably continue being so but there has been a ~25% price hike on most of their menu items, which I did not find out until I got there (I was going by the menu uploaded to what appears to be the official website). I would request they notify takeout customers while the order is being taken and that they be more open about it in general. read more

I had a Wonderful lunch here with a friend a few months back and was excited to bring my family back for dinner. Tonight was our second attempt, the first time the hostess messed up and didn't have our name on the wait list..we left. We decided to give it another try. This time I made sure she wrote our name -but others were seated ahead of us and out of order. The hostess did apologize and told me there were 2 hostesses on shift and it gets confusing. ?? We ordered 2 sushi rolls, 2 bowls of won ton soup and 2 combo dinners. We waited about a half hour for the soup, and didn't get the sushi rolls until they served our entrees. It is a shame because the food is very good. The soup was very flavorful and the won tons were nice and thin and fresh. The sushi rolls were also good. We had lo mein combos and also extremely well made with fresh ingredients. Our waitress never offered refills on drinks or was nearby when we needed something. The owner needs to get the hostess/waitstaff organized - and fast. While we were there, we saw a party of 4 walk out after waiting an hour for their food. It may be that, in addition to the poor service, the kitchen is overwhelmed trying to keep up with the dining room while also filling take out orders. Either way, we won't be back. If I was rating Just the food I would have rated it considerably higher, but I am rating based my entire experience. read more

I was really happy to know a sushi place was coming to Middlebury since we already have enough slim pickings on food restaurants. I went there one night with friends on a rainy Friday. Nobody else was in the restaurant except one other group. Some friends in my group ordered typical Japanese dishes (chicken, noodles, veggies, etc) while some of us got sushi. I got a spicy tuna roll (see my previous reviews about how this is mainly what I order to try out new restaurants), and a special roll that both my boyfriend and I shared. The sushi was alright, the rice was a little on the hard side and the rolls tended to fall apart very easily. They also drizzled way to much sauce on our special roll which made it somewhat soggy. I thought it was odd that on a Friday night it wasn't bustling like other restaurants would be. Our waitress could of used a smile or two, she was a mute to be honest. No interactions, rarely smiled and was only interested in going and running to the other table and chatting it up with them and paying more attention to them than us. All in all, it was alright food, alright service and an alright atmosphere. I didn't try any other dishes and I will be giving them a second chance when the time comes but this place could use some work. read more

Can't say how the food was, I never got that far. I called a week ago for a take out order. After going through all the rigmarole of ordering...name ,number and all that I was told it would be ready in 1 hour...come on.... the busiest restaurant in the world doesn't t have a hour wait for take out and this was for only one item. General Tso's chicken...especially for Chinese food...it's supposed to be fast...so I canceled the order. Like a fool yesterday I tried again. Placed the same order...one item only...I was told the order would be ready in 20 minutes...that's the way it's supposed to be. I arrived in 20 minutes and the order wasn't ready. I was told it would be a couple of minutes so again like a fool I paid for the order in advance. I waited another 45 minutes and my order still wasn't ready. When I asked what happened I was told the "machine" didn't place my order....come on what machine...you write the order on a guest check, give it to the cook in back and your order is put together...at least that's the way it should work. After another 10 minutes I asked for my money back and walked out. I usually don't write reviews but this time I had to...they don't care about their customers . Some people say the food is good....it would have to be the best dammed food in the world to have to wait that long. Not at all what was anticipated. When I eat "in" a Chinese Restaurant I except a better menu tableside than the standard take out venue. The fried rice a bland the egg roll the same. We checked ahead on their website to see if they served drinks. The site stated it had a "full bar. It does. It seats about 15 which is about as full as it gets. All they serve is wine and beer which was a disappointment to the 4 of us that wished to sit and enjoy a lovely evening together during and after our meal. This is the first time we have visited Cheng Square, The restaurant was very clean. Our service was really good considering they only had one server on. She had at least 10 tables by herself. Six of which arrived after us. She was very pleasant and helpful. We had the lemon chicken, veggie fried rice, eggplant with garlic sauce and egg drop soup. We shared everything. The portions were all good size and very reasonable pricing. We will return!!! read more

Cheng Square has become my regular spot for Chinese food. The food is consistently good and the service is as well. I like everything I've tried on their menu, which is pretty much your standard Chinese menu with all the appetizers, entrees and combination plates you expect. They also feature a nice variety of sushi and rolls as well. The two times I ordered sushi it was good. I've eaten there and ordered takeout and have no complaints either way. The dining room isn't big and can feel a little cramped when they're busy on the weekends. All in all a good place for what they do. read more
