I always have an excellent experience with Dr Kates. I have been seeing him for over 20 years. I've referred everyone I know to him. He is very aware of not leaving visible scars should you need precancerous cells removed or a biopsy done. Sometimes it's tough to get appointments but he's worth the wait!! Wish I could give no stars. This place is terrible. I wanted to reschedule an appointment. I called 7 yes 7 times in the course of 2 days. The first 5 I got a busy signal....which never happens nowadays?!? The second time I called I got through!....good right?? NOPE. I got put on hold I lasted 10 min. Didn't want to wait it out...probably would have been on hold indefinitely ‍. The 7th time I got through again! Yay!.....NOPE . She said "please hold" ..... I said "no". Her response? "You can't hold?" I said no again and she responded by putting me on hold! She finally came back 3min later .....I was going to give it 5 min this time. I told her to cancel my appointment. It was my first time here and I was very happy with the appointment. I saw Yelena and she was so professional and knowledgeable. She didn't try to sell me services I didn't need. She examined me and gave me recommendations on keeping my skin supple and protected from the suns damage. She also offered me samples of products she recommended and coupons to save money on them. I know, the reps give them to the drs to get you to buy there products but hey, you have to use something to clean and protect your skin, why not use something they back up with their reputation as doctors. My doctor told me that my acne was my own fault and she's not a witch and made of magic. That she can't fix me. This was so so hurtful and mentally taxing. I completed my first round of accutane in 2017 and saw Christine Hulbert & I cant say enough positive things about this practice as I'm back again completing a second round of accutane. Christine is funny, professional, knowledgeable & very proactive with her patients (responding to FaceTime right away with the corona virus pandemic happening.) Tiffany, the medical assistant, is a DOLL. she's so warm and welcoming and understanding and constantly taking on my work as a patient contacting my insurance getting my Prescriptions approved. It stinks that once I'm done with this course of treatment I won't be in contact with them again as I have no other skin problems, I wish Christine was a primary care doctor I could see yearly! The whole office is so welcoming cozy & highly professional. No matter where I move I'll travel to this office for my dermatology needs! read more

What is your time worth? I received good care. However, during my first visit, my provider was 30 minutes late. During my second visit, 40 minutes passed since my scheduled "appointment" (not "suggestion") before I walked out of the treatment room and met with the practice manager. Points to consider: if the schedule falls apart when a provider has a family emergency, there there should be a plan to inform patients their appointment will be delayed or given the opportunity to reschedule. Allowing a single point of failure in your schedule, force my schedule to adjust, is unacceptable. 30-minutes late and 40+ minutes late, for 0830 and 0920 appointments respectively, indicates a structural scheduling problem. An office should not be consistently so far over scheduled when the business day is fewer than an hour or two old. Consistently assuming patients will wait well past their scheduled "appointment" time sends a clear message -- intentional or not -- that practice / provider time is more valuable than patient time. Not the sort of message one generally sends in a service business. Review the remaining Yelp reviews. FIVE out of six solely address patient and appointment wait times and overbooking. This needs to be fixed. To her credit Sue, the practice manager listened carefully to feedback. However, leadership and management should be out in front of these issues, not reactive. read more

I wish I could leave no stars. The waiting room is uninviting for as long as you have to actually wait. There are plastic chairs, no rug, really no decor to speak of. I don't think there have been updates since they opened. That's the best of the issues. The woman at the front desk was unfriendly. I saw a PA, not a dermatologist. She spent 5 minutes with me and prescribed an ointment for my eyelids (another Dr., not a dermatologist, prescribed an ointment with steroids, which can cause cataracts if it gets in the eye). My pharmacist is CVS. They contacted me to say my insurance needed more info from the Dr. Then they contacted me to see if I could contact the office since insurance had not heard back. I called and the office was shut down, and they weren't taking calls. It took almost 2 weeks for CVS to tell me it was ready. Apparently, the retail price for this ointment (Tactolimus) is $464.99!!! I paid $25. The first time I used it, it itched. I waited a day and used it again. It burned the heck out of my skin and caused dark red circles around both eyes. So, I stopped using it. Yesterday I got an unknown call on my cell. I let it go to voice mail. It was from a pharmacy in a town over 45 minutes from my house. They said my dermatologist called in a prescription and my insurance co. denied it and told me to call them. I did, and the girl I talked to couldn't have cared less. I said I don't understand what this is about. She said we canceled it. Why did they call me then? What is going on with Chelmsford Dermatology? Never seen such an inept place. Nobody contacted me about what was happening. I'm canceling my upcoming appt. and I am done with them! read more

I am writing this review as I am sitting in the waiting room for an hr now. This is my 2nd time here, both times have been an hour or so wait. Just a minute ago, a woman went up to the counter and said she's been waiting for an hour and asked how much longer because she has another appt. in an hour. The receptionist said to reschedule because she's not gonna make it. Not even apologizing. The woman said, I can't take another day off for this. Another post mentioned this place is unorganized. It is true. I don't know is because they're going thru some system changes (as they claimed) but both times they couldn't find me in the system and had to ask me for my information again. I am still waiting and it's an hour 10mins and counting. I don't recommend this place unless you have a lot of free time. read more

It's been a few years since my last appointment, and I feel they've really tidied up a lot of my prior complaints. Office seemed cleaner, the staff were more upbeat and friendly. Only downside... the wait times are STILL ridiculously long! I know many offices overbook, but I think this is just a little silly. PA took very long sending in my prescriptions. I had to call my primary care to call them, then when they were called in I was prescribed a cream I already had which didn't help, and missing 2 prescriptions. Update: So this place is worse than i originally thought. They have now lost record of my referral and 6 months later are billing me several hundred more for the mistake. I have tried over the span of several days calling them, but they no longer answer the phones there. I called the insurance company and they say this is typical of small businesses like this, looking to squeeze extra money from the consumers. I re-iterate my previous statement- avoid this business as there are so many more out there, far, far better then here. read more

The treatments here are wonderful - but they really need to do something about their wait times. I always wait at least 45 minutes past my appointment time before I am called, then at least 15-20 minutes in the room before the physician comes in. My first time here, two other people came in and said they were seeing the same physician at the same time as my appointment - that's three people who were given the same appointment time. Unacceptable. You can never make a plan or appointment for after your visit because you will most certainly be late. And twice now they have marked my arrival time down as ten minutes later than I arrived. They NEED to fix this - hire more physicians or NPs! It's unacceptable! read more

I had an excellent experience. When I called to schedule an appointment, they were able to get me in that week. When I needed to reschedule, it was no problem, and they very kindly moved me to the next week. I had a very short wait time (maybe 5 minutes), and less than 10 minutes after seeing the nurse waiting for the derma. Everyone was very warm and welcoming from the receptionist who very nicely and clearly told me what I needed to do re: paperwork, insurance, etc, as well as the nurse who was very considerate and thoughtful, and the dermatologist was fantastic. She was very thorough and spoke to me woman to woman making me feel very comfortable being candid with her. She talked to me the whole time explaining everything she did, encouraged questions, and made me feel very confident that she was giving me her full, undivided attention. She also encouraged me to call within the week if I experienced any discomfort or issues. There was an option to upcharge me or sell unnecessary services, and it was clear that the primary goal of this derma was to treat me for what I needed, not what would best profit them. When it came time to schedule a follow up at the end of my appointment, they were again very accommodating to my schedule. From start to finish, this was one of the best dermatology experiences I have had. Staff was friendly, accommodating, personable and knowledgeable. Since this was my first visit, I cannot speak to the reviews re: office disorganization or loss of paperwork/etc, but at this time I have no reservations of making this my home derm. office and would enthusiastically recommend to others. read more

I have been coming here for a couple of years for various medical reasons. The staff in reception have gone above and beyond many times. They assisted me with insurance issues and are always patient answering any questions. They are always courteous and kind. Dr. Katz is the most caring physician I have met. He takes the necessary time to answer any questions I may have. Wait times are expected in any office that provides the 1:1 personal care that you receive at Chelmsford Dermatology. I went to Chelmsford Dermatology for a mole check. I saw one of the physician assistants. She looked at a mark on my arm and asked how long I had it. She then stated that it looked like skin Cancer. I immediately started to cry. She then took 2 samples for a biopsy. She said that it could take about 7 days, but she has gotten results back the next day. On the 6th day, I called the office and left a message on the results line to check the status. I waited 24 hours to call back as I received no call back. A few hours after that, I left another message with the front desk, then with a medical assistant. I never got any response from anyone at that office whether my results were in or not. I waited over the weekend and called back Monday. I finally got a person, only to be put into voice mail. I have never been treated so horribly by any doctor's office, ever. I will not be going back to this office, as I do not trust them with my care. read more
