Chefs table is the best breakfast and lunch place in Fairfield. The food, workers, coffee and atmosphere is amazing. My boyfriend and I come here about five days a week for breakfast and our buddies always know our order and are such great, smiling faces to start our day to. I felt like I walked through a time warp when I entered through the doors of The Chef's Table. There's rock and roll memorabilia all over the walls and none of it seems to come from the last twenty years. My guess is a DJ from WPLR owns this joint. Beatles banners. Led Zeppelin posters. You name it. I love the duct tape covering torn vinyl seats. Forget the Shamwow, duct tape is truly the wonder material of the 21st century. It probably holds up better than any professional patch work. When sitting, just be careful not to sit on any sticky residue. There's lots of pre-made sandwiches sitting under the counter. Lots of wraps, sandwiches, soups, and salads. The last two, the soups and salads, have their own self serve counter. You can order a custom sandwich which perhaps might be a better option than one sitting under the counter. The service is really casual where you pay at the counter and sit wherever you want. Food was OK. Not spell bounding. But considering the price, good location, and convenience, I'd have no problem returning again. read more

My all time favorite place to grab lunch in Fairfield. Being from New Jersey I never thought I'd find an equally as amazing breakfast sandwich as I have in my home state, but this place can do it!!! There seaweed salad is so yum , as most already know, and their soups are so organic tasting and fresh! They also serve beer which is cool , and have a good selection of old school sodas (natural sugar). They often tweet about free hot chocolate on snowy days - which is so fun & yum. Their Tuscan wrap is also one of my favorites. And their salad bar is a really great deal! Service is good! They could probably use a bigger place, since there is sometimes congestion by the register and salad bar/sandwich station. But that obviously doesn't take away from how mind blowing their food is! I love Chef's Table, I have been going since I was little. They have great food that is quick to grab and go, but they do have some continuity issues. I have ordered wraps from their pre-made options pretty regularly. I usually ask for the wraps extra toasted so they are warm, but every time I get a different outcome. Well toasted but cold in the middle, lukewarm, or perfectly toasted! Today it wasn't toasted at all after asking for an extra toasted wrap. Decided to visit the new location today. I was never blown away by the food at the original location but I figured I'd give it a try. First impression was it looked a lot better and has more appetite appeal than the original location. Still has a lot of food options which is not necessarily a good thing. To me it means they don't make anything really good and there is know way everything is fresh. Exactly the reason I'm reviewing them. The wrap I got not only was sitting around a bit but made me have some issues of the bad kind. I love coming to Fairfield and even though I'm not super familiar with what's worth going to in the area, it seems like the majority of great restaurants are conveniently located on Post Road. It was around lunch time and since my friend and I slept late, we were looking for a place to grab brunch and then be on our way. She recommended Chef's Table. You'll have to find parking on the side of the road or in a lot somewhere close since Chef's Table has no private parking. From the outside, it looks incredibly tiny and cramped, but as you walk in you'll see that it makes up in seating and food. It's a lot larger than you'd expect and severely decorated with old pictures of classic rock bands, primarily Led Zeppelin, Johnny Cash, The Beatles, etc. They also had a performer on guitar playing live music for the brunch crowd which I thought was pretty appealing, it had a nice vibe to the time of day. You walk to the back where the food is located and you have your pick at tons, and I mean TONS of cafe-esque food. There's a soup bar on your left as you make your way back, a salad bar more towards the back on your left, a deli counter that has a plethora of wraps, sandwiches, burritos, etc., in the case that you can order either cold or toasted, and a taco/burrito bar on the right (I believe) where you can customize your own taco/burrito. On top of that, they also serve a handful of breakfast items including sandwiches and omelettes. There's truly a massive amount of options. They also have organic coffee that my friend recommended, but I didn't get a chance to try it. I ended up with a chicken Caesar wrap that was on a spinach wrap (my favorite) and an Orangina to wash it down. My friend got a buffalo chicken wrap and a small amount of salad. Overall, the time it took to order our food and actually pay/receive it was fairly quick, especially with how busy they were starting to get. My wrap was great, and even though I'm not a fan of a chicken Caesar wrap with a generous amount of dressing on it, it still could have used just a bit more. Otherwise, it was exactly what I wanted that morning. I didn't get to try my friend's buffalo chicken wrap, but it must have been good because she demolished it in no time flat. This place is great and I hope I'll be back here again to venture into the other types of food and coffee they have to offer. Chef's Table is, by far, my favorite hangout for those days when I'm working remotely, running errands, or jonesing for a soup fix. The pricing can be a little bit steep, but the portions are enormous (sandwiches especially) and I generally have leftovers. The only reason it takes me so long to order is because I have trouble making up my mind. (Almost too many options. That's a good thing, though.) I can honestly say that I have never had a bad experience here. The staff is warm, very personable and accommodating. The atmosphere is GREAT. The walls are covered in rock & roll memorabilia, there's exposed brick, and I love it all. I feel like I'm back home in NYC. The Bad: Other reviewers have mentioned the ordering/paying workflow...it can be very confusing. Looks good!!! Stopped into The Chefs Table to find a quiet spot to have a little coffee and breakfast. Order at the counter, while getting a great view of the salad bar, and sandwich counter, where all ingredients look fresh and tasty. The chalkboard menu is detailed and inticing, with very reasonably priced items. I had a sausage, egg, and cheddar sandwich with my coffee, which hit the spot. I came in on a Monday morning, and it was nice and quiet, with ample seating options. The front is completely open, allowing for sunshine and fresh air to come in. This location also offers live music, granted there was none on a Momday morning. (Thankfully!)The walls are decorate with local art and rock and roll posters. Very cool! Don't let the hip(pie) interior fool you, this place serves the best quality food you will have in a relaxed atmosphere. Think college town grill with excellent salad and soup bar. Before I start my own review, I'd like to comment on the other reviews here. Chef's Table has a punk/hipster feel to it, but I definitely don't think it's detrimental to the service or atmosphere. Also, it is not overpriced for what you get. Maybe there are too many people who've never left Fairfield County commenting on this place. First, food. Chef's Table is a counter service restaurant, with a pretty wide selection of gourmet prepared food. It's mainly sandwiches and wraps at the counter, with a cold food bar off to the side. The bar has different kinds of salads - wish I could remember what they are. It CAN be pricey if you overload your container with tons of food, but that's the case anywhere. They also have a rotating selection of desserts, which are pretty damn cheap - around $2-3. Drink wise, they have a soda fountain, a few decent microbrew taps, and some bottled juices. You can have a damn good dinner with a beer an dessert for around $10-12 a person, all in. If you think that's pricey, I don't know what to tell you. Second - the atmosphere. I would sum it up as feeling like a retro New York rock club. There's exposed brick walls hung with framed concert posters and memorabilia, high ceilings, and classic rock on the radio or tv (sometimes live music). Some people on here have commented that it is pretentious, but I really don't get that feeling. I've gone here with my family a few different times on weeknights and there's other families, older couples, every kind of person. The service is fine... I've never felt like they were doing me a favor, as some other people have implied. Occasionally, there's groups of middle school kids that seem to hang out here for hours at a time, without buying anything. I feel kind of bad for the owners having to put up with that, but the kids don't ever do anything annoying. This is one of my favorite spots in CT, period. The food is amazing and I try to make it here whenever I can. I'm vegetarian and I can't remember the last place I've eaten that had as good vegetarian options as Chef's Table. read more

Pretty much regulars here since they opened a couple of years ago in their new space. Usually friendly, great selection of soups, salads, sandwiches etc. Their fries are tasty and wraps are delicious. Particularly like the Cape Codder and the Italian. We also love the open air feel this time of year with the large garage door open and we love the musical accompaniment esp the cool bass player. Excited to see their new place, but man, I think they're spreading themselves thin. This last visit was bad. It didn't look like anyone was working. Tables were filthy and not bussed at all. Trash on the floor. Forgetting our order so we had to wait twice as long for it and the manager was complaining about being left alone. Wasn't the usual. The flank steak burrito never disappoints and the fresh salad and burrito bars are amazing as well as the juice bar. Yes it is a great spot to listen to music and get great food. However, I thought it was over priced for what you got. And the music is so loud that you can't really talk or find a table. Their soups are homemade and great in winter time. The first time I went there I love the place and then after going back several times, I found it a little too "trendy." Meaning people trying to look cool or basically unfriendly people too self adsorb into themselves. BUT then again this is an "artsy fartsy" type place so that is the nature of artists in general (it seems). Today I want more than just great food, I want atmosphere (which this place definitely has) and warm and fuzzy (friendliness). With the economy today customer service and making the customer feel welcome is the key. Each time I went there the customer service was like I was bothering them. They had their own agenda whatever it was I don't know, maybe selling that special berry juice for $40 a bottle (which I didn't buy). This place is a great little gem in Fairfield. It has a cozy cafe-style atmosphere with a retro, rock music-themed decor. Some of the things that keep me coming back are the consistent, high quality food, the warm greeting by an enthusiastic staff who always remember your name and your order, the ability to call ahead for your order, and the outdoor seating in the summer. While the selection of panini, salads, soups, and juices is vast, my favorite is the seared tuna wrap. It's perfectly seared on the outside and red on the inside. When I first walked in, I was taken back by what the place looks like inside, and how big it it! Musical/ musician posters are hung all over the walls. Large amounts of seating area. The food itself was good, however I think it is alittle over priced for what you are getting. I ordered a small salad, which includes 5 toppings, you get to choice from a range of items ($6.99). I asked for avocado ($1 extra), which I would be OK with, IF its worth it. She gave me 2 small slivers, and I said to the girl, "That's it?" She said she can give me more, but it will cost more. She said you get a 1/4 of avocado. I got half of a half, of a half! The size of the salad itself however I thought was alittle too small. I ordered grilled focaccia bread with tomato, mozzarella, and basil, with pesto, which I did enjoy. My boyfriend got the Seared Tuna wrap, which was OK. The bathroom is interesting, because it is wall to wall, top to bottom, filled with magazine and paper cut outs of EVERY Musician out there.
