It is easy to walk by Chef's Creations without noticing it; if you do, turn around and come back!! The food was excellent! We had a simple lunch that was flavorful, well-prepared, and inexpensive. It's an open air restaurant where you can enjoy the fresh air without baking in the sun and heat. The decor gives it a rustic and charming vibe. You can tell simplicity is part of their approach. You walk in and seat yourself, you bus your table at the end of the meal, and you pay at the window on your way out--we learned this by watching the locals who had stopped in for a quick lunch. The small menu was handwritten on plain white paper--Spanish on one side, English on the other. We spotted someone diligently hand-drying clean plates and trays at the edge of the dining area. We were expecting our bottles of waters to come to the table before our food, but after a short wait the server brought it all out together on a tray. The plates are basic and we got to-go plasticware & napkin sets to eat our meal. The food was excellent! The Arroz Mamposteao (mixed rice) was especially good. After a week in PR where it seems vegetables are surprisingly scarce on restaurant menus, we were really excited to have green salad. Chef's Creations is WAY better than it looks from the outside. The entrance is in a narrow alley with not much of a sign or decoration. We ordered our meal through a dusty iron cage to a woman we struggle to hear or see. The menu was hard to read and didn't give much information. However, the experience went up DRAMATICALLY after entering the center of the restaurant. Their open air atrium has lots of tables with plenty of chairs, well spaced apart, and high volume fans keeping the area cool and refreshing. This atrium where you eat and drink is extremely thoroughly decorated in a large volume of authentic vintage items like old soda bottles, coffee grinders, bicycles, kitchen gadgets, and other relics of the 50s, 60s, and 70s. All these items are old and faded but not dusty or dirty. It is tasteful and brings you back to an older, simpler time. The food was excellent and tasty. This chef is very skilled and it shows in his craftsmanship. Ceviche was on point. The Mahi Mahi was tender and flaky, seasoned with the right amount of citrus and salt. The chicken was tender and juicy prepared in a rich broth. Each side dish - rice, beans, salad, mofongo, plantains, were seasoned well and presented in a tasteful manner and with good portion size. Im a vegetarian and my friend isn't... so after reading the Yelp reviews, we went in search of this place and found it absolutely charming! The hostess greeted us warmly and when asked if they had any vegetarian dishes, she immediately spoke with the chef who actually walked over to the hostess stand and said that he'd be happy to make me whatever I like - pasta, pesto sauce. I was grateful for his warmth and willingness to accommodate my requests and I asked him to make me anything of his choice. After being seated and ordering some drinks, the most amazing plate of pasta with fresh heirloom carrots and tons of veggies with pesto with an arugula salad on top appeared in front of me! I'm from NYC but this plate of food was a warm hug! Just absolutely delicious and worthy of any fine Italian restaurant in NYC. My friend ordered the albondigas (pork, beef and sausage) with fresh handmade pasta and was raving about it too! Portions are generous, the atmosphere is inviting, comfortable and relaxed. No fuss. Got lomo de cerdo which was charred with chunks of burned carbon that was hideous to eat, meat was hard and unflavored, potatoes were bland, gandules were bad and rice had no flavor. Price wasnt bad 7.00 dollars, you do get what you pay for because that was 3.00 dollars plate just based on presentation and taste. (the pizza part was odd, because definitely the most tender churassco I've ever had! No chewiness or anything ! It was very good) my husband had arroz con gandules risotto with pork. I was in Mayaguez with a friend and we didn't know where to stop and grab something to eat. We got on Yelp and this great place came up we knew we needed to check it out. It was 35 minutes from where we were. The Yelp location is not correct we had to call the restaurant and ask them for directions it was very close from where it took us. As soon as you go in you'll be amazed with the rustic decoration. The owner and chef Jorge Rivera came to our table and ask us if everything was ok. If we needed help with the menu. He explain the menu to us. He told us that this month menu was inspired on Cuban food. Every month he changes the menu making it a unique culinary experience.
