I regularly pick up lunch at this Cheffie's, and the food is generally fresh and well done. The issue is sometimes the service. If you show up within the 12-1pm hour, get ready to wait ... a LONG time. The place is understaffed, and while the generally congenial (but inexperienced) young workers do their best, it's not nearly an efficient enough operation to deal with the traffic. Some lessons from the Wild Beet folks on Kirby and Poplar, who handle many times the number of customers with a much wider array of salad topping options, may be able to assist. There are often workers performing ancillary tasks (some with headphones on) while others on the line struggle to keep up. Some tasks can probably wait while the customer line is out the door and people have limited lunch time. Separately, there needs to be greater portion consistency - both with respect to salads and soups. I recently bought a cup of soup as I do many days, and noticed my cup was filled about halfway. I asked the employee to fill it up further (as my soup cup when filled by other workers is always near the brim), but was told it was an "8 ounce ladle", and intended to be that small a portion. I get soup there on the regular and had never heard such a thing or seen a cup filled at such a shallow level. All the other workers fill up the soup cup. Literally half my cup was oxygen; like a bag of potato chips, but not nearly as delicious. Regardless, if that is the "policy" (and I would never expect a salad place to cite some sort of formal "policy" like it is a federal regulation) you'd think there might be a little judgment and discretion with regular customer who spends inordinate amounts of money at this place. To add insult to injury, it was toward the end of the day. What were they saving all this extra soup for that an additional ounce would have broken the bank? It makes me question the value; frankly, the soup thing just struck me as cheap and a ripoff. read more

not sure how this is a functioning restaurant, I legit could teach a toddler to make a better sandwich than this bullshit. club sandwich had one piece of thin ass ham & turkey on it. then their idea of "toasting" the sandwich is putting it on the press for like 20 seconds tops to leave some grill marks on the bread. not to mention it being expensive to top it all off. do yourself a favor and don't eat at this unseasoned mid ass "restaurant". this place should do the world a favor and shut down. read more

The sour dough bread was good but there was only one (1) slice of deli roast beef on the sandwich with not very generous toppings so overall it was really lacking. I stopped in at 9:00 on a Saturday morning to try Cheffie's breakfast offering, a cinnamon roll. I asked the young lady if it was fresh, she replied "yes, it was made yesterday". Needless to say I was disappointed as the cinnamon roll was tough in texture and what you'd expect when reheated in a microwave. Cheffie's appears to have a family type atmosphere, however, the background music being played this morning was Marcy Playground's "Sex and Candy" and other loud grunge tunes. Not surprisingly I was the only customer dining at the time. If done right, Collierville families would flock here on a Saturday morning. I had lunch with a friend today, the food was "ok" and service was just "ok" - until we went to the ladies room! The bathroom was so very nasty, it about made me sick. My friend ran out of the restaurant. I told a young man that was working there, it was so dirty and no soap in one sink. He said, thanks. I hope to goodness the men's room was cleaner! I work in Collierville and I decided to eat here on my lunch. I ordered a BLT sandwich and the bacon was burned the first time. So I ask a young lady that was working, to ask could they make it again. Well, they did make the BLT back over (In fact it was the manager that did it). And it was still distasteful and rubbery. It totally ruined my entire lunch. I was very displeased when I left. I decided to call and ask to speak with the manager Taylor. He says, I'm so sorry that happen to you. Sometimes we cook our bacon a different way and that was it. He didn't offer a discount or even a free drink. I was not asking for much at all. I will not be going back to eat at this place. First let me preface this review by saying I have eaten at the E. Memphis Cheffie's location several times and loved it. That being said, I was extremely disappointed with my experience at this location. It was a disaster beginning with placing the order. Both employees seemed to have little knowledge of the menu. I asked for a simple chicken salad sandwich on toasted marble rye. The request was met with a puzzled look as if it were somehow an odd request. When I received the sandwich, it had very little chicken salad and had been toasted in the panini press, lettuce and all. Nothing like hot, soggy lettuce. My friend requested a sweet pig sandwich. Her sandwich, too, had very little ham and almost no honey mustard. These two sandwiches, a side of bland potato salad (which had to be repeated verbally 3 times) and a bag of chips, NO drinks, was $24.17. The tiny portioned chicken salad sandwich was rung up as a salad for $9.95. I understand this is not a fast food joint and fresh quality ingredients are touted as selling points however I couldn't help feeling a little ripped off after this experience. The customer service and the food were both VERY lacking. We intentionally went at a slower time of day (4 PM) to avoid any possible service glitches. This order was a to-go order and included no napkins and no utensils. If this location is to succeed, a serious customer service overhaul is in order. I have only been once but I will definitely go again. I recommend if you are looking for something healthy and fast. The food seems very fresh and delicious. Not a lot of seating, that's the only thing I can figure out wrong with the place but that's not going to keep me from going back. You do have outdoor seating which is a nice option. read more

The kid's grilled cheese was a large portion for a fair price. They offered a sample of the soup, which was delicious. Menu items are are labeled as gluten free and vegan, with many options for both. This place is conveniently located to our home and used to be a favorite lunch spot or to get a quick dinner. Sadly, this business has steeply declined in terms of service , cleanliness and quality of food. My main go to used to be their salads but the last couple times I got my favorite Greek salad there it had either missing ingredients as well as bad/expired ones. This wasn't the first time either and the staff there is so uncaring now it's pointless to get them to issue a refund for anything. I always ordered my salads chopped too and several times not all ingredients were chopped, some tossed in whole after the fact, ingredients that were definitely no longer fresh, etc. My husband used to like their sandwiches and as others have pointed out the amount of meat you get varies. It's been a steady decline over the past 6 months and although we used to love their food we will definitely go somewhere else now, especially given the prices they are charging. read more

I have tried Cheffie's a few time. Not impressed. The first time they ran out of chicken for the chicken Cesar salad. Now some people might think that's a good thing but I think thats poor management. I had high hopes for this place- great space, nice decor, great big outdoor space, good healthy food options. Boy, was I disappointed... Amateur staff- need some managers. Very dirty where they prep the food... They don't wash the salad chopping/prep area all day long so who knows what's growing there... and they were touching near the garbage and dirty counter with the same gloves they mixed my salad with. I was so grossed out that I bought a $10 salad and threw it out (and I was very hungry). Bummer. I hope they can get their act together soon! I'm giving 3 stars as this visit was shortly after they opened, but my experience with my family was similar to another review. It seems the training part is not taking place with employees, it could be because the owner is there making very one nervous, or they just don't know what they are doing. There really isn't anything memorable with this salad and sandwich shop. The sandwiches are tasty, but the Roasted Turkey is more like Sysco sliced turkey, nothing special, and not a very big sandwich. There was 3 slices of Turkey, and for $10 a sandwich, and comes with nothing, I will head to Chick-fil-A. Ordered 4 sandwich's, no drinks and over $40, which would be fine if the sandwich was memorable or the service was top notch. I will try again at a later date, and hope things get better, don't go at a busy time, people go grab tables and then order, which they run out of seating quickly.
