    Schwartz's - Smoked meat sandwich

Great smoked meat sandwich!…read more Honestly my first thought was to compare this sandwich to the many pastrami sandwiches I've had in NYC but that would be comparing apples to oranges. Even Schwartz will tell you it's not the same product although it is very similar. Both institutions cure, spice, smoke and steam the meat but that's where the similarities end. Although I don't know for sure, I've heard the cut of meat is different. Katz uses a naval cut, which is noticeably fattier and juicy. Schwartz's smoked meat doesn't lack in fattiness but it's far less fatty and juicy. Another fact on the first bite is -the flavor. Katz's flavor profile on the pastrami is a knockout punch while Schwartz delivers a jab. Schwartz's smoked meat delivers a different flavor profile all together. That's not to say Schwartz isn't great because it's half the price on Katz essentially and you don't have to tip your slicer here. That's not to say Schwartz doesn't bring their own brand of chaos. On my way out the slicer shouted he'd serve no one until the line was straightened out to his liking. LOL. It's all good though, that line was a mess and Sometimes tourists need a stern talking to. I'd get in a straight line for sure for this sandwich! I got my sandwich from the takeout next door versus waiting for table service. The line was 20 deep at 3pm and I just didn't have the patience on a drizzling afternoon. I'd revisit for another one of these smoked meat sandwiches.

I'm not sure if my review is going to sway you one way or the other, but let me just say anyone who…read morehas done research on places to eat in Montreal has seen this place pop up, and let me tell you - it's worth it. Their smoked meat sandwich is next level. And while I only had a few places of comparison in Montreal, it was bar none the best smoked meat in Montreal. I dare say they are the Katz's of Montreal. I gotta say, it was a bit of a trek to get here. My wife dropped me off and drove around while I went to get my order. Let me just say, going at 10pm on a Monday night probably played in my favor. Still being that late on a Monday in March, this place was still busy. I could have gotten a table if I was dining in, but that was not my plan. I ran in to grab some take out, and I have to say, in the time it took me to turn around and pay for my sandwich, my sandwich was all ready to go. The anticipation built as we drove back to hotel with my smoked meat sandwich. When I opened it up, I can't say I was overwhelmed by the size of it, but after that first bite, I was hooked. This was the best bite I had on my whole trip, and I am now cursing myself for only getting one sandwich. We almost went back the next morning, but we had to be on the road, so alas, this one sandwich was all we got. OVERALL - if you don't go, it is truly your loss. I would probably try the poutine with the smoked meats on a return trip, to get the full, Montreal experience. CELEBRITY RATING - Ryan Gosling

I have been getting Goodfood for quite a while now. I…read moresuppose I'm partially to blame for not really paying closer attention to these things. When I Google it they do say they source from the US seasonally, but it's the middle of summer. I'm not sure why this is happening but I'm very unhappy about it!

I was a Goodfood customer for many years - through a partner's account from way back in 2015, and…read morethrough my own account since around 2019. So I have a lot of experience with this company and have been a loyal customer. Today I finally made the decision, after multiple past considerations, to cancel my account. Goodfood works on a predatory subscription model. They make it so that you can only skip a few weeks at a time, and if you forget to check back in to skip more weeks, you are stuck with an unwanted, very expensive box. I have complained to their customer service agents a handful of times over the years when I would be charged for a box I didn't want. I always hoped they would eventually prioritize their customers and implement a feature onto their website and app to pause subscriptions indefinitely. After so many years of having unwanted charges and deliveries, I can only conclude this will never happen, and I have no choice but to cancel my account if I want to avoid this situation again. It seems that Goodfood banks on your forgetfulness and doesn't really care if you actually want their product or not - otherwise I see no reason they wouldn't give the option to pause the subscription until you manually place an order again. I guarantee you I would not have canceled my account if this was an option, because I actually do like their recipes and food when I am CONSENTING to the order. Now, after having already budgeted for my meals this week and with a fully stocked fridge, I will have to deal with this surprise $100 charge and a box of unwanted food tomorrow. But, at least I can take solace in the fact that this time, it will be the last time this happens to me. Good riddance, Goodfood.

Pooh, Marie and I had our New Year's Eve supper here last night…read more We started off with drinks. Pooh and I had their signature Margarita and Marie had their Long Island Iced Tea. Pooh and I loved our drinks but for the price there should have been more alcohol and less ice. Marie wasn't crazy about her drink. She thought it was more like a cherry juice drink We shared the Calamari platter which was piping hot and had a delicious dipping sauce which Marie kept for her fries. For our main meal I ordered their Fried Chicken Salad. Pooh ordered Apollo à la Brasa, and Marie had Lobster Roll with fries and salad. I liked my salad but since it was "fried chicken " I thought the chicken would be hot. It was just warm so the skin wasn't crispy; more loose like sagging skin. Pooh loved his dish but it was a tad salty and greasy. Marie loved everything. Each of us had a Brazilian coffee which was delicious. After we shared an order of their Beignets. These beignets were huge and came with two dipping sauces: caramel and whipped Nutella. They were heavenly Service was fast and friendly and the ambiance was lively - great music too We would definitely return. I will try a different dish.

It's quite busy with the brunch crowd, but not like dinner hours. We had delicious drinks, clearly huge servings of great food, and a nice time just hanging out. We didn't feel rushed and got to just enjoy one another's company. It is tight seating admittedly, and not super comfy, but I'll take it for the yummy food. Will be back for breakfast.

I was walking home along Parc, thinking that I wanted something tasty but didn't want to either…read morecook or order food. As if by answer to my prayers, Crealunch caught my eye, nestled next to Ta Pies - it's a place that does frozen ready meals, created for you to pop in the microwave and eat! I don't eat a lot of meat, so I ordered a fettuccine pasta with a bunch of veggies, but only after talking to the guy behind the counter about how to cook them. I don't have a microwave, so I asked if it could be done in an oven. He said yes! Great! Now, what follows is largely my own fault, but TO BE FAIR I didn't know any better. First off, pasta doesn't really cook too well in the oven, so I put a little bit of water in there to help it along. Secondly, I didn't realise that the plastic container was microwave-safe, but not oven-safe. You may be thinking that I am an idiot. You may be right. Some plastics don't melt in the oven. This one did. My bad! Thirdly, I just wasn't... that... impressed with the dish I'd ordered. Some meals suit being ready meals, and those tend to be ones with cheese or some kind of sauce or gravy, like a mac & cheese, or a shepherd's pie. My pasta did have a sauce, but it was a very light one, and so the end result (partially because of the oven-baking) was dry pasta and soggy vegetables. It also took quite a while to bake (and again, it's meant to be microwaved, so I'll take the blame for this) which meant that I was left quite disappointed. I feel like I would have had more success with a meat dish - they sounded very appetising - but I really was trying not to eat too much meat! All in all, it was a bit of a dud, but partly my fault, so... I hope this helps if you're on the fence? TL;DR: don't get the pasta (unless very saucy), do get a microwave.

Oh my, another ready-to-eat frozen meal place/service...and it doesn't look like the same old jam…read more These type of places have been popping up all over town in recent years, so anytime one stands out it's refreshing. When I saw that they change their menu every Wednesday and have created over 300 dishes, the name Crealunch seemed perfectly fitting. They have a chalkboard with their weekly offerings, and the dishes look very interesting. A twist on the ordinary, for example; a Shepherd's pie using teriyaki pulled pork, and not simple hamburger. Plus even an avocado Tiramisu dessert (too exciting - can that even be done). The main courses range from 7.95-8.95 and are tax exempt, because they are frozen meals - from what I was told. The desserts are in the 3.95ish range and that's not too bad either. Not sure if mousse and meringue are taxable? The photos of the meals look great and they looked pretty good in frozen form at first glance. The gentleman at the counter (one of the owners), was nice enough to explain things, including that they have a loyalty points program. They also have two day a week delivery service (ask for details). He said their website also had nutritional information to boot. Note: My rating is based solely on the menu, marketing and facilities (even deserving of 4.5 or more for the photographs and unique menu) - I have not tried the food yet, but plan to asap.
